The DoT Campaign Worked, Emirates Reverses Course And Will Honor Maldives Bookings!

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

Last Wednesday I noted that Emirates had tickets from the Maldives to Europe for $64 or to the US for $100 one-way or $142 round-trip.

Last Friday Emirates decided not to honor the tickets and sent out cancellation emails, when I advised people to write to the DoT.

The DoT responded to people on Monday that their complaints did fall under DoT rules and that they were taking up the case. The DoT makes special rules to keep airlines in check, as in general the public can’t sue an airline in court due to the deregulation act.

The Wall Street Journal even picked up the story and noted that this website encouraged people to reach out to a higher authority-the DoT.

Earlier this year Southwest stealthily changed their program rules without advance warning, killing companion pass status for hotel point transfers overnight without warning. I wrote back then that people should contact the DoT. Some bloggers and commenters took me to task for recommending that we get the government involved, but it worked. A few days later Southwest relented and gave a 3 month grace period for hotel point transfers to count for companion pass status, which allows you to bring a friend with you for free when flying Southwest.

The DoT has helped me out personally several times, including getting reimbursed by American when they cancelled our flight to London and stranded us and our 2 toddlers in JFK overnight and for American charging an award redeposit fee after the electronics ban was launched.

And the DoT came through once again.

The DoT requires airlines that want to cancel a passenger’s ticket to cover the expenses for other prepaid airfare and hotel reservations that were made assuming the ticket would be honored.

Today, Emirates has reinstated the Maldives itineraries that they cancelled last week.

-DDF member as2 reports that his itinerary that was cancelled is once again viewable on Emirates.com and his old seat assignments have even been restored.
-DDF member normathej reports getting a phone call from Emirates saying that they have decided to honor the booking and asking if he would like the booking or a refund.
-DDF member Aerial Dag also got a call from Emirates, though has been ignoring it until he knows if wants to go or cancel.

So you should be able to logon to Emirates.com and see your ticket as it was purchased or you can call Emirates to request a full refund.

If your ticket has not yet been reinstated you can call Emirates at 800-777-3999 to get it reinstated. FT member jinxeddeep reports that a memo went out to Emirates supervisors today that they can reissue any tickets that were cancelled if they weren’t automatically reinstated. Be sure to post your experience in the comments!

Will you be using your tickets to the Maldives or will you request a refund?

Emirates Cancels Maldives Tickets

Friday, May 19th, 2017

Emirates has cancelled the dirt cheap Maldives tickets that were available on Wednesday.

You do have the option of filing a DoT complaint.

The DoT has helped me out several times, including getting reimbursed by American for cancelling our flight to London, getting Southwest to provide advance notice before ending companion pass status for hotel transfers, and for American charging an award redeposit fee after the electronics ban was launched.

If you booked other airfare and hotels you should definitely file a complaint and attach all supporting documentation. Emirates may have to pay for those other accommodations if they cancel tickets, even if there was a price mistake.

Want to go the Maldives with your miles?

There are lot of great points hotels in the Maldives.

-25K Chase or Hyatt points is enough for a free night at the Park Hyatt Maldives.

An overwater villa at the S. Regis Maldives is on sale from 46.8K Starpoints per night on a 5 night stay. It’s probably the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

-The Conrad Maldives starts at 69K points per night on a 5 night stay.

-The Sheraton Maldives costs 16K Starpoints per night on a 5 night stay and can be reached from Male by boat for just $136.

Note that you’ll have to pay some $500-$700 for a seaplane to get from Male to most resort islands, though some can be reached with a far less expensive boat ride from Male.

Glitch? Air Canada Moves Dates Of Montreal-Tel Aviv Flights, Has Wide Open Coach And Business Saver Award Availability!

Thursday, May 18th, 2017

Related: 55K Miles For Signing Up For A United Explorer Card; On Expanded Awards, Excursionist Perks, And Why The United Card Is My Favorite Airline Mileage Card

Award tickets nonstop from North America to Israel are notoriously hard to find. “Hybrid points” are often the best bet for Israel.

When Air Canada started selling their new seasonable Montreal-Tel Aviv route it was available for saver awards on almost all dates in coach and business class.

I posted that information and all of the award space was wiped out within a day.

Air Canada has moved their flights in September and October from Montreal to Tel Aviv from Thursday to Wednesday and from Tel Aviv to Montreal from Friday to Thursday.

While flights before the date change have limited coach award space and don’t have any business class award space, currently all of the new flights have saver award space in coach and business class! Not only that, but there’s enough saver award space for the whole family!

Sample business class itinerary from NYC:

There are at least 8 coach and business saver awards from Montreal to Tel Aviv on:
September 6, 13, 20, 27
October 4, 11

There are at least 8 coach and business saver awards from Tel Aviv to Montreal on:
September 7, 14, 21, 28
October 5, 12

Unfortunately, the seasonal route ends on October 16, so there are no Wednesdays or Thursdays on which to fly after Sukkos ends.

The flights from September 6-14 are operated by an A330. Business class on the A330 is lie-flat with a 1-1-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all seats.

The flights from September 20-October 12 are operated by a new 787 Dreamliner. Business class on the 787 is lie-flat with a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration with direct aisle access for all seats. The configuration on this plane has received rave reviews. You can read more here.

Sample booking options:

-You can transfer miles from Chase Ultimate Rewards to United (1:1 ratio) instantly. United charges 85K in coach or 160K in business class for round-trip partner award flights to Israel. Awards can be cancelled for free within 24 hours. United never collects fuel surcharges. After 24 hours non-elites will pay $75 to cancel awards more than 60 before a flight or $125 within 60 days of a flight. Awards can be booked online. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

-Air Canada charges 80K in coach or 165K in business class round-trip and they’ll also tack on some $750 in taxes and fuel surcharges for Air Canada flights. Points transfer instantly (1:1 ratio) from AMEX. Transfers from Starwood (20K:25K ratio) can take 2-10 days. Awards can be booked online. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

Aegean charges a mere 60K miles in coach or 90K miles in business class round-trip and you’ll need even fewer Starpoints than that thanks to the Starwood 20K:25K transfer ratio. Factoring in a 25% discount that’s effectively 48K Starpoints in coach or 72K Starpoints in business class round-trip. They don’t charge fuel surcharges for Air Canada flights, taxes will be $88 from Montreal, or less from the USA. Transfers from Starwood can take 2-10 days. You can call Aegean to book at +30-21-0626-1000. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

Singapore charges 75K in coach or 115K in business class round-trip. But they’ll tack on $735 in taxes and fuel surcharges for Air Canada awards. You can transfer points from AMEX, Chase, or Citi at a 1:1 ratio, but it will take a day or 2 for points to show up. Transfers from Starwood (20K:25K ratio) can take 2-10 days. You can call Singapore to book at 1-312-843-5333. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

ANA charges just 65K miles in coach or 104K miles in business class round-trip. Best of all they don’t charge fuel surcharges for Air Canada flights, taxes will be $66 from Montreal, or less from the USA. Unfortunately it can take 1-3 days to transfer points from AMEX to ANA (1:1 ratio) and transfers from Starwood to ANA (20K:25K ratio) can take 2-10 days. Awards can be booked online, though flights with connections may need to be booked over the phone. One way awards are not available.

Emirates flights originating from the Maldives are currently pricing without fuel surcharges on all flights from now through 11/30!

For example:
-A one-way flight from Male (Mah-lay) to Dubai is $54 instead of $750.
-A one-way flight from Male to Cairo, London, Milan, or Paris via Dubai is $64 instead of $700.
-A one-way flight from Male to JFK via Dubai is $100 instead of $1,000.
-A one-way flight from Male to Fort Lauderdale via Dubai is $103 instead of $1,000.
-A multi-city flight from Male to JFK with a stopover in Dubai is $124 instead of $1,000.
-A round-trip flight from Male to JFK via Dubai is $142 instead of $1,000.

Emirates is an excellent airline and there are no issues for Orthodox Jews flying on Emirates or in Dubai. I’d highly recommend booking a multi-city ticket and adding a 2 day stopover in Dubai.

Of course if you’re starting in the USA you’ll need to get to the Maldives in order to get a $100 ride home.

You can use miles one-way to get to the Maldives or you can fly on an airline like Aeroflot via Moscow for $441 (Use Google Flights to find more dates)

There are lot of great points hotels in the Maldives.

WOW Air Will Have Cheap Flights Between Tel Aviv And North America Tomorrow, But Be Aware Of The Fees…

Monday, May 15th, 2017

I reported back in January that ultra-low-cost carrier WOW Air was planning on starting service to Tel Aviv in June. 63% of DansDeals readers responded that they would be willing to fly WOW Air to Israel.

WOW Air announced today that they will start selling tickets to Tel Aviv tomorrow and start flying the route in September.

Tickets from Tel Aviv to Iceland will start at $99 one-way, tickets from Tel Aviv to the US East Coast will start at $149 one-way, and tickets from Tel Aviv to the US West Coast will start at $199 one-way.

Of course seats at those rates are likely to be very limited, so you’ll need to act fast to grab them. If you follow @DansDeals on Twitter you can get a notification of the sale. You can also signup for a text message alerts via Twitter.

One-way prices from the US to Tel Aviv haven’t been announced yet, but I’d expect them to be higher than the one-way prices from Tel Aviv to the US.

If you make a booking on WOW’s US site you can click to cancel it within 24 hours. You will then have to email wow@wow.is within 24 hours of the booking with a copy of the cancellation confirmation to get a refund.

WOW serves (or will soon start serving) 10 North American cities: Baltimore, Boston, Chicago Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, Newark, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Toronto. You’ll be able to connect from those cities to Tel Aviv via Reykjavik.

They’re fashioned as a ULCC (Ultra low-cost carrier) like Spirit, but WOW.

They advertise cheap fares, but the extras add up quickly.

For a round-trip from the US to Europe you’ll pay:
-$100/$140 for a carry-on bag (22 x 18 x 10 in up to 26 lbs) paid for in advance/at checkin. You’ll pay an additional $60 if it doesn’t fit in their bag sizer and you’ll have to check it under.
-$140/$160 for a checked bag (up to 62″ and up to 44 lbs) paid for in advance/at checkin. You’ll pay an additional $18.18 per pound over 44 pounds.
-Reserving a seat will set you back an additional $40-$200 depending on the seat.
-Water, soda, and snacks cost extra.
-There’s no Wi-Fi or entertainment onboard.

1 personal item smaller than 17 x 13 x 10in is included for free.

WOW Air hasn’t yet announced if the fees for Israel flights will be higher than Europe.

Will you fly WOW Air between the US and Tel Aviv?

El Al Will Serve Miami-Tel Aviv With 3 Weekly 777s This November; Roundup Of 2017 North America-Tel Aviv Routes

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

I reported last September that El Al will resume Miami-Tel Aviv service this year.

El Al has finally made the route official and announced that it will be served 3 times per week on Boeing 777s that offer first, business, and coach seating. They should start selling seats on the route within the next couple of weeks.

El Al still hasn’t announced which routes will get their new 787 service later this year, which DDF sleuthers discovered will have 1-2-1 direct aisle access reverse herringbone seating in business class.

For those keeping score at home that means that flights between North America and Tel Aviv at the peak for each route in the summer/fall of 2017 will look like:
Boston: 3 weekly flights on El Al (767).
JFK: 7 weekly flights on Delta (777 through 10/27, A330 from 10/28), 16 weekly flights on El Al (747/777).
Los Angeles: 5 weekly flights on El Al (777).
Miami: 3 weekly flights on El Al effective November (777).
Montreal: 2 weekly flights on Air Canada (A330 from 6/22 through 9/14, 787 from 9/17 through 10/15), 2 weekly flights on Air Transat (A330 from 6/18-10/29)

United: Cleveland To/From Los Angeles Nonstop From $58.20 (Or 2.9K Hybrid Points) Each Way

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

-Get free checked baggage, free carry-ons on basic economy fares, significantly expanded award availability, club passes, 55K miles, and much more with the United Explorer Card

Bookable on Priceline. Tickets purchased from Priceline today are refundable until 11:29pm EST tomorrow. Please see this post for directions on how to cancel these tickets.

United used to have the monopoly on this route, but Frontier and Spirit started flying it nonstop after United dehubbed Cleveland.

United kept their fares ridiculously high, but with the launch of Basic Economy fares they have finally started to play ball, dropping the cost of a one-way ticket from $400 to as low as $58.

You’ll need to add another $25/leg to buy out of Basic Economy for flights on or after May 9th. United doesn’t allow full size carry-ons, doesn’t award elite miles, doesn’t allow seat assignments, doesn’t allow changes to Basic Economy fares, and boards Basic Economy passengers last. However if you or anyone on your reservation has a United Explorer card or elite status then you can all board early and each bring a free full size carry-on bag, even if you are on Basic Economy fares.

Cleveland to Los Angeles valid $58-$68 dates in bold, $98 dates in plain font:
May 2, 3, 4, 9, 13, 16, 17
June 8, 10, 13, 17
July 15, 22, 29
August 12, 16, 19, 22, 23, 26, 29, 30
September 2, 6, 13, 20, 27

Los Angeles to Cleveland valid $58-$68 dates in bold, $98 dates in plain font:
May 8
June 3
August 22, 26, 29
September 6, 13, 20, 27

These fares are not on sale with miles, but you can pay for the ticket with “hybrid points” if you have AMEX points and a Business Platinum card.

If you have The Enhanced Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN you can get a 50% rebate on the airline of your choice

The 50% rebate will go back into your account the day after redeeming points.

You can login to your account and redeem AMEX points for travel here.

A $58.20 flight will be 5,820 points and you would get a 50% rebate making the effective cost just 2,910 points, a value of 2 cents per point. That includes all taxes and you can still earn miles for flying!

Delta Is The Latest Airline To Improve Seating From JFK To Tel Aviv

Sunday, March 26th, 2017

Continental’s former CEO Larry Kellner, who was sacked for refusing to merge with United, was quoted as saying that Newark-Tel Aviv was their most profitable route. USAirways’ president Scott Kirby called Philadephia-Tel Aviv among the most lucrative routes in their network, before American bought USAirways and axed the route citing alleged poor route performance. Mr Kirby jumped ship and is now President of United.

Competition on the route is heating up.

Last month I wrote about United moving one of their 2 daily flights from Newark to Tel Aviv from a Boeing 777-200 (772) to a 777-300ER (77W), a clear sign of the route’s competition and success.

The 77W will have significantly improved business class seating, though significantly worse coach seating. Savvy coach passengers should opt for the afternoon 772 with its wider coach seat. Business passengers should opt for the evening 77W with direct aisle access for all seats.

Last week I wrote that El Al will finally launch lie-flat direct aisle access reverse herringbone seating with the 787s that will come online in the 3rd quarter of this year.

Air Canada already offers lie-flat direct aisle access reverse herringbone seating on their 787s from Toronto.

Delta, which had been first to Tel Aviv with direct aisle access seating, realized that they were falling behind in the arms race for the Tel Aviv route with their regular herringbone style seating.

Regular herringbone seats are angled towards the aisle with the middle 2 seats facing away from each other.

Reverse herringbone seats are angled away from the aisle with the middle 2 seats facing towards each other. This is a significantly better layout than herringbone.

Effective 10/29/17 Delta will switch the JFK-Tel Aviv route from a 777-200LR (77L) to an A330-300 (333). That means business class will move from herringbone to reverse herringbone, a nice upgrade.

However the number of business class seats will drop from 37 to 34 on Delta’s once daily flight.

Compare that to United which currently operates the route with 100 daily business class seats. That will climb to 110 in May thanks to 60 business class seats on the 77W.

Delta coach will move from a 3-3-3 configuration on the 777 to a 2-4-2 configuration on the A330-300, which is surely better than the 3-4-3 configuration found on United’s 77W and arguably better tha the 3-3-3 coach configuration found on United’s 772.

For those keeping score at home:

United 772 EWR-TLV: Operates twice daily through 5/4 and once daily thereafter.
50 business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration.
72 economy plus seats in a 3-3-3 configuration
145 economy minus seats in a 3-3-3 configuration

United 77W EWR-TLV: Operates once daily effective 5/5.
60 business class seats in a 1-2-1 Polaris configuration.
102 economy plus seats in a 3-4-3 configuration
204 economy minus seats in a 3-4-3 configuration

Delta 77L JFK-TLV: Operates once daily through 10/28.
37 business class seats in a 1-2-1 herringbone configuration.
36 economy comfort plus seats in a 3-3-3 configuration
218 economy uncomfort minus seats in a 3-3-3 configuration

Delta 333 JFK-TLV: Operates once daily effective 10/29.
34 business class seats in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration.
40 economy comfort plus seats in a 2-4-2 configuration
219 economy uncomfort minus seats in a 2-4-2 configuration

El Al 789, routes and dates TBD.
32 business class seats in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration.
28 premium economy seats in a 2-3-2 configuration
222 subpremium economy seats in a 3-3-3 configuration

Getting To Israel Using Starwood Starpoints, 2017 Edition

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

American Express is a DansDeals.com advertiser.

-The Starwood Consumer AMEX and the Starwood Business AMEX offer 25K signup points each with no fee for the first year. You can also use your Starpoints to stay free at the the highly rated Sheraton Tel Aviv and later this year at the W Tel Aviv – Jaffa which is scheduled to open on October 1st. With a Starwood business card you’ll even get free lounge access and meals at the Sheraton Tel Aviv!

Related post: The Ultimate Israel Mileage Award Chart (2015)

The Starwood card is an excellent card for general spending. You can use just a couple thousand points for free hotel nights or transfer points into the mileage programs of 36 different airlines with a 25% transfer bonus. If you are transferring points you may also want to consider Starwood’s Nights & Flights option where you can save 8,000 points on a mileage transfer plus a 5 night stay in a category 3 or 4 hotel.

To make a mileage transfer just login to your Starwood account at SPG.com. If you have never made an account at SPG.com you may need to set one up. Locate your SPG number on the Starwood AMEX statement where it lists how many points you earned in the past month and for the year. Then you can setup an SPG.com account. Click here to transfer Starpoints into airline miles. Note that transfers can take a few days to complete.

A new feature that is awesome but makes the options are lot more complicated is the ability to transfer Starpoints into Marriott points at a 1:3 ratio.

Marriott has their own airline transfer option and an excellent miles+nights redemption option.

You can read more about the 5 ways of transferring Starpoints into airline miles here.

-With 90K Starpoints you can get 270K Marriott points.

-With 270K Marriott points you can get 7 nights in a Marriott category 1-5 hotel plus 132K United miles! Or you can get 7 nights plus 120K miles with Air Canada, Alaska, American, British Airways, or Delta.

That’s a better deal than transferring 100K Starpoints into 125K airline miles. However for the purpose of this post I’ll ignore the Marriott transfer options as they only work in specific transfer amounts and it will make this post even more complicated. However, I have added United as an option below using via Marriott as Starpoints don’t transfer at a 20K:25K ratio with United, but the transfer ratio to United is worthwhile via Marriott at 18,667 Starpoints to 25,000 United miles. You can do far better than that with a miles+nights redemption and you should read this post to learn more.

The rates in this post are for flights from NYC to Tel Aviv unless otherwise noted.

New Zealand is still on my bucket list, but back in 2010 Mimi and I flew around the world on AA’s defunct round-the-world award and for Australia we stopped off in Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmania, and the Whitsunday Islands. Truly an awesome country!

-3-5 days in Sydney would give you enough time to experience the phenomenal Park Hyatt, climb the Harbour bridge, check out the Opera House, pet some Koalas and Kangaroos, and have a day in the Blue Mountains.

-4-6 days in Melbourne would allow for a road trip of the sublime Great Ocean Road and the breathtaking Grampians before going to to Malborune for Shabbos at the excellent Park Hyatt which is around the corner from a great Chabad House. A flight from Sydney to Melbourne is 4.5K BA Avios with no fuel surcharges.

-2-4 days in Hamilton Island or Cairns would give you time to snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef. If you’re based in Hamilton Island you’ll also be able to checked out famous Whitehaven Beach and the Whitsunday Islands. A flight from Sydney to Hamilton Island is 7.5K BA Avios with no fuel surcharges. Sydney to Cairns is 10K Avios.

-We spent 4 nights covering the entire beautiful island of Tasmania without realizing just how much driving that would entail. Doing over a week would have been ideal.  A flight from Sydney to Hobart is 4.5K BA Avios with no fuel surcharges.

-We didn’t make it to more remote places like Uluru, Kangaroo Island, Perth, or the Australian Outback, but perhaps on a future trip?

Then again 10K BA Avios can also get you from Sydney to New Zealand. That’s been on my bucket list for a very long time…

Starting May 5th There’s One United Flight From Newark To Tel Aviv You’ll Want To Avoid In Coach And Another You’ll Want To Avoid In Business

Saturday, February 25th, 2017

Effective May 5th United will start flying their new Boeing 777-300ER (77W) aircraft between Newark and Tel Aviv.

The 77W will be operated by subsidiary United crew members on the late night flight 90 from from Newark to Tel Aviv and the late night flight 91 from Tel Aviv to Newark.

United will continue to operate their pre-merger Continental 777-200 (772) aircraft with subsidiary Continental crew members for the afternoon flight 84 from Newark to Tel Aviv and the afternoon flight 85 from Tel Aviv to Newark.

The 77W offers United’s new Polaris business class with a 1-2-1 seating configuration that allows direct aisle access for all business class seats. It’s a big improvement over the 772 which has a 2-2-2 configuration that requires jumping over your seatmate or being jumped over by your seatmate if you select the window side seats.

The configuration is denser than business class on most airlines with a 1-2-1 business class, but reports are mostly quite positive so far and the middle seats in every other row offer a good option for couples traveling together. Plus with a whopping 60 business class seats, upgrades may be slightly easier than on other airlines with fewer seats:

ua

The good news ends in business class though. United has decided to cram 10 seats across throughout the 102 Economy Plus and 204 Economy Minus seats. By all accounts, it will be a tight squeeze for larger people in coach with seat width dropping from about 18 inches to just 17 inches.

ua1

The old pre-merger Continental 772 aircraft will eventually be converted to have Polaris business class 1-2-1 seating, but for now is 2-2-2. It will also eventually be converted to have 3-4-3 seating in coach, but for now it still has 3-3-3 seating.

Bottom line: Starting from May 5th for the near future, United flight 84/85 will offer a better experience for coach passengers and United flight 90/91 will offer a better experience for business class passengers.

It’s worth noting that both flights already have the new Polaris branded bedding and pillows. Mattress pads and gel cooled pillows are even available upon request. However neither Newark-Tel Aviv flight will offer Pajamas in business class, though United’s Dreamliner operated nonstop flight from San Francisco to Tel Aviv is long enough to qualify for business class Pajamas, which are given out upon request.

LOT Polish Adds 2nd Daily Warsaw-Tel Aviv Flight, Facilitating Excellent Connections From The US

Friday, February 24th, 2017

LOT Polish has responded to RyanAir’s plethora of new service between Poland and Israel with new service from Lublin, Gdańsk, Poznań, and Wrocław to Tel Aviv. More intriguing is that they’re increasing their Warsaw to Tel Aviv service from 7 weekly flights to 13 weekly flights.

LOT Polish often has great economy and business class sales from the US to Tel Aviv, but their connection times are awful. I’ve skipped posting some of their deals to Tel Aviv because of them.

For example a flight from JFK to Tel Aviv on 5/14 requires a 10.5 hour connection in Warsaw. A return flight from Tel Aviv to JFK on 5/23 requires a 9 hour connection in Warsaw.

Chicago to Tel Aviv on 5/14 requires a 9.5 hour connection in Warsaw. A return flight from Tel Aviv to Chicago on 5/23 requires a 9 hour connection in Warsaw.

Starting in mid-June the additional Warsaw-Tel Aviv flights will make connections far more palatable.

For example a flight on 6/18 from JFK to Tel Aviv only requires a 3 hour connection in Warsaw. A return flight from Tel Aviv to JFK on 6/28 requires a 1.5 hour connection in Warsaw.

A flight on 6/18 from Chicago to Tel Aviv only requires a 2 hour connection in Warsaw. A return flight from Tel Aviv to Chicago on 6/28 requires a 1 hour connection in Warsaw.

LOT Polish is also launching Newark and Los Angeles service to Warsaw this year and the new flights will enable great connections from there as well.

LOT flies the Dreamliner from the US to Warsaw with lie-flat seating in business, but Warsaw to Tel Aviv is served by a 737 with European style business class. It will be operated by 737-800s which are being added to LOT’s fleet this year as opposed to the current 737-400s operating the route.

LOT is a Star Alliance member, so you can use miles from airlines like United for award flights as well:

-This is a great business class sale from Singapore Airlines. My most enjoyable business class was on the 19 hour extravaganza nonstop from Newark to Singapore. Singapore’s flight attendants are by far the best in the business and the business class seat was massive and comfy:

JFK-FRA is operated by an A380, the LAX flights are operated by a 777-300ER (77W), and the Houston flight is operated by an A350. All of those have lie-flat seats and direct aisle access from all business class seats.

-You can credit this Singapore D class fare to any Star Alliance and some partner carriers. For example if you fly from LAX-Seoul you can credit the flight to:
-Ethiopian/SAS (200%): 23,976 miles
-Lufthansa/Turkish (150%): 17,982 miles
-Aegean/Air Canada/ANA/Avianca/Singapore (125%): 14,985 miles
-JetBlue/United (100%): 11,988 miles
-Virgin America (50%): 5,994 miles (transferable to 7,793 Alaska miles)

-Singapore: JFK to Frankfurt outbound dates for $1,996
Other dates are also available on Lufthansa and United from JFK and Newark.
