Alaska Airlines has rolled out their new award charts with partner awards from just 4,500 miles each way!

You can get 60,000 bonus miles plus Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare™ ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) by spending $3,000 or more in purchases within 90 days of opening the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card. You can read more here.

Login here and you can see if you’re targeted to get a 60% bonus when you purchase 40K+ Alaska miles. You can buy up to 160,000 miles per transaction for $2,750+$206.25 tax=$2,956.25. That sale ends tonight at 11:59pm PT.

That comes out to 1.847 cents per mile.

Alaska elites have no annual limit on the number of miles which may be purchased. If you are not an Elite Member, your account may only be credited up to a maximum total of 150,000 miles in a calendar year. Bonus miles do not count toward the maximum total of 150,000 miles, so with a 60% bonus, you can buy up to 240K miles per calendar year.

You can status match from other airlines to Alaska.

The promotion page implies that if you take advantage of this offer, you will also have the opportunity to purchase miles with a 70% bonus, though the terms of that offer aren’t disclosed.

Sample cost for awards when buying miles:

• A short-haul flight on AA will cost 4.5K miles + $18 in coach or 9K miles + $18 in business class. If you buy the miles for 1.847 cents each, that’s like paying $101 in coach or $184 in business.
• You can fly El Al from Tel Aviv to Venice for 7.5K miles + $44 in coach or for 15K miles + $44 in business class. If you buy the miles for 1.847 cents each, that’s like paying $182 in coach or $321 in business. El Al charges $277 in coach or $933 in business for those flights.

• You can fly AA from JFK to London for 22.5K miles + $18 in coach, 30K miles + $18 in premium economy, 45K miles + $18 in business class, or 67.5K + $18 in first class. If you buy the miles for 1.847 cents each, that’s like paying $433 in coach, $572 in premium economy, $849 in business, or $1,264 in first class. AA charges $538 in coach, $1,284 in premium economy, $5,400 in business, or $6,123 in first class for those flights.

• You can fly AA from JFK to Rome for 27.5K miles + $18 in coach, 35K miles + $18 in premium economy, 55K miles + $18 in business class, or 82.5K + $18 in first class. If you buy the miles for 1.847 cents each, that’s like paying $525 in coach, $664 in premium economy, $1,033 in business, or $1,541 in first class. AA charges $778 in coach, $1,923 in premium economy, $5,053 in business, or $5,773 in first class for those flights.

• You can fly from JFK to Tel Aviv on 9/3 for 35K miles + $22 in coach, 45K miles + $22 in premium economy, or for 70K miles + $22 in business class. If you buy the miles for 1.847 cents each, that’s like paying $668 in coach, $853 in premium economy, or $1,314 in business. El Al charges $862 in coach, $1,332 in premium economy, or $2,773 in business for those flights.

Aside than buying miles, it’s not easy to obtain Alaska miles other than from the Alaska Card. You can transfer increments of 60K Marriott points into 25K Alaska miles, or you can transfer Bilt points into Alaska miles at a 1:1 ratio.

Sadly, due to El Al’s new partnership with Delta, the Alaska-El Al partnership will end on 7/31, so you’ll want to take advantage of booking awards by that date. You’ll be able to book travel through June 2025 in July when the partnership ends.
