Update: It’s worth noting that you can also book business class travel to Tel Aviv via Abu Dhabi for 70K AA miles (over the phone only) or 100K Air Canada miles (bookable online):
There’s lots to do in Dubai or Abu Dhabi during a stopover and there are now several kosher restaurants as well.
Etihad premium cabin award space availability can be hard to come by, but currently there’s much higher than usual availability for up to 2 passengers per flight via Air Canada’s Aeroplan program.
You can also book this with AA miles, but AA.com isn’t currently showing Etihad availability so you’ll need to call to book it. AA phone agents saw the same space that I was able to find via the Air Canada site. You may also be able to book via AA’s in-app chat. You can also hold award space via AA and cancel for free.
You’ll need 70K AA miles or 85K Aeroplan miles to fly from JFK, Chicago, Toronto, or Washington DC to Abu Dhabi.
With Aeroplan you can also add a stopover in Abu Dhabi for 5K miles, while with American you would need to book 2 separate tickets.
You’ll need 70K AA miles or 100K Aeroplan miles to fly to the Maldives via Abu Dhabi.
- You can normally transfer AMEX, Capital One, or Chase points to Air Canada at a 1:1 ratio or Marriott points at a 60K:25K ratio.
