Earn 100,000 Points With The Newly Improved Chase Sapphire Preferred’s Highest Signup Bonus Ever!

This already incredible offer is now even better thanks to a new $50 hotel credit, anniversary bonus, and card earning benefits that were just added! This 100K offer may end at any time, be sure not to miss it!

Sapphire Preferred Signup bonus

You can currently earn 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for opening a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and spending $4,000 in 3 months. Those points are worth a minimum of $1,000 cash back, $1,250 towards travel and other categories, and $1,300 for Pay Yourself Back categories, but they can be worth much more as shown below.

You can signup for this highest ever public offer here.

It is unknown how long this offer will last for.

The previous signup bonus offers on this card have been 40K, 50K, 60K, and a previous record high 80K points for spending $4,000 in 3 months.

Chase typically will not match Sapphire card offers if you signed up with a lower offer, but it can’t hurt to ask!

Also available is a 60,000 point offer on the Sapphire Reserve card, but you will be better off applying for this card and converting it to a Reserve card down the line.

Sapphire Preferred annual fee

There is a $95 annual fee for the primary card and no annual fee for additional cardholders.

Sapphire Preferred signup bonus terms

If you received your last Sapphire bonus on today’s date in 2017 or earlier, you are now eligible to earn another Sapphire bonus!

  1. You won’t get approved for this card if you have received a signup bonus on Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card within the past 48 months. You can call Chase to find out when you last earned a bonus on those cards or you can pull up your old statements online to check when you last got a bonus. You can also send Chase a secure message with your old card number to ask when you got the signup bonus on it.
  2. You won’t get approved for this card if you currently have an active Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire card. However you can call Chase to change those cards to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex card, wait 3-4 days, and then apply for a Sapphire Preferred card! You can keep them as Freedom cards to help build your Quinfecta or you can upgrade back again if you still want a Sapphire Reserve.
  3. You can apply and Chase won’t pull your credit or approve you if you are not eligible to get the card bonus.
  4. You will get the bonus for this card even if you are an authorized user on another person’s Sapphire card.
  5. If you are approved, that means you will get the bonus for this card as long as you spend $4,000 in 3 months.

All Chase cards appear to be subject to 5/24 restrictions, meaning that you are not likely to be approved if you have been approved for 5 or more consumer credit cards in the past 24 months. Note that the Chase system automatically counts cards like authorized user cards and store cards as cards that count towards 5/24, but if you explain to Chase that those cards are merely authorized user cards or store cards they can manually approve you for a new card.

You can check your credit report for free at the federally authorized to check how many accounts are shows as being open in the past 24 months.

New: Sapphire Preferred annual hotel credit

Get a $50 annual hotel credit every cardmembership year as a statement credit when you book any hotel through the Ultimate Rewards portal starting with your account open date anniversary after 8/15/21.

New Sapphire Preferred cardholders as of 8/16 can use this credit immediately!

Existing customers can use it after their next card anniversary. You can find your anniversary date for this benefit by logging into your Sapphire Preferred card here.

New: Sapphire Preferred anniversary bonus

Get a 10% anniversary points bonus on all spending starting on 8/15/21. For example if you spend $20K on your card in a cardmembership year, you’ll get a 2,000 point bonus.

The bonus does not apply to the signup bonus or bonus point categories, it only applies to the 1 point per dollar base spending.

It has been 7 years since this card last offered an anniversary point bonus and it’s great to see it return!

New: Sapphire Preferred card earnings

  • 5 points per dollar on all travel booked through the Ultimate Rewards portal (Effectively 5.1 points with anniversary bonus).
  • 2 points per dollar on travel (Effectively 2.1 points with anniversary bonus), including airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises, subways, trains, taxis, tolls, parking, Airbnb, Uber, etc.
  • 3 points per dollar on dining (Effectively 3.1 points with anniversary bonus).
  • 3 points per dollar on select streaming  (Effectively 3.1 points with anniversary bonus). Include Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, Sling, Vudu, Fubo TV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify and YouTube TV.
  • 3 points per dollar on online grocery shopping (Effectively 3.1 points with anniversary bonus) excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs. The online grocery category includes purchases for grocery pickup and delivery that are placed online with grocery stores, specialty food stores, or delivery service merchants that classify as grocery store merchants such as Instacart (excluding membership and subscription fees). Meal kit delivery services are included in this category.
  • 5 points per dollar on Lyft spending through 3/31/22. (Effectively 5.1 points with anniversary bonus)
  • 1 point per dollar elsewhere (Effectively 1.1 points with anniversary bonus).
  • There are no foreign transaction fees.

Previously there was no reason to spend on a Sapphire Preferred over a Sapphire Reserve. Now, dining purchases (3.1x vs 3x), streaming purchases (3.1x vs 1x), online grocery purchases (3.1x vs 1x), airfare booked via the Ultimate Rewards portal (5.1x vs 5x), and everyday purchases (1.1x vs 1x) will be more rewarding on Sapphire Preferred over Sapphire Reserve!

Sapphire Preferred spend threshold

You’ll need to spend $4,000 on this card within 3 months.

You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.96% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes.

My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

Sapphire Preferred card benefits

  • Primary rental car CDW insurance in every country.
  • Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance
  • Lost Luggage Insurance
  • Trip Delay Reimbursement
  • Baggage Delay Reimbursement
  • Travel Accident Insurance
  • Purchase protection for items damaged or stolen within 120 days

Peloton credit and bonus points

Charge your Peloton membership fee to your Sapphire Preferred card and you’ll automatically get $60 back through 12/31/21.

Make a Peloton purchase of $1,800+ and earn 5 points per dollar spent through 3/31/22!

Increased points value

If you or someone in your household has a Sapphire Preferred card you can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from any card at a value of 1.25 cents towards paid travel.

If you or someone in your household has a Sapphire Reserve card you can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from any card at a value of 1.5 cents towards paid travel.

Pay yourself back

Back in May, Chase added the ability to pay yourself back and redeem your Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve Ultimate Rewards points to offset any dining, grocery store, or home improvement purchases at a rate of 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point through 9/30. They also added select charities to the program, which you can offset your donation with points.

Chase has extended those categories through 9/30/21 and tells me that Pay Yourself Back will be a permanent feature of the Ultimate Rewards program, and that they will add more cards and categories for the program in the future. This adds a ton of value to the Ultimate Rewards program as you can buy anything from those stores, even gift cards to other stores, and make them free by redeeming points at a value of 1.25 or 1.5 cents each. The ability to get that kind of value from your points even when you’re not traveling is outstanding.

A great feature of the program is that you keep the original points that the purchase earned, even though you paid yourself back for the purchase. That means your points will be worth more than 1.25 or 1.5 cents each!

In other words, if you spend $300 on dining or online groceries on Sapphire Preferred, you can use 24,000 points to offset that purchase and make it free. Plus, you’ll still earn the 930 points for dining or online groceries, so you effectively used 23,070 points to offset the purchase. That means your points were actually worth 1.3 cents each!

If you spend $300 on dining on Sapphire Reserve, you can use 20,000 points to offset that purchase and make it free. Plus, you’ll still earn the 900 points for dining, so you effectively used 19,100 points to offset the purchase. That means your points were actually worth 1.57 cents each!

Airline and hotel transferability

If you or someone in your household has a Sapphire Preferred card you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points into valuable airline and hotel mileage currencies.

Card convertibility

You can call Chase to convert this card or any of the following cards into another card from this list:

Note that some reps will only allow card conversions after you have had the card for 12 months.

If you or someone in your household has a Sapphire Reserve, then your points will be worth at least 1.5 cents towards travel!

If you want to get a Sapphire Reserve, your best path is to apply for the Sapphire Preferred card and then convert it to a Sapphire Reserve as you’ll get 100,000 signup bonus points instead of 60,000 points!

Killer Combos

Stacking multiple Ultimate Rewards cards together can supercharge your earnings by getting you more points per dollar while increasing the value of all your points.

Read more about this strategy in depth in this post.

Chase Bifecta would consist of a household that has the Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve and the Freedom Unlimited. The total effective annual fees would be either $95 with Sapphire Preferred or $250 with Sapphire Reserve after accounting for that card’s $300 annual travel credit. With the Sapphire Preferred+Freedom Unlimited you would earn 1.5 points per dollar everywhere, 2.1 points per dollar on all travel, 3 points per dollar on drugstores, 3.1 points per dollar on dining, streaming, and online grocery shopping, and 5.1 points per dollar on travel booked via Chase. You’ll be able to transfer all of your points into airline miles or hotel points or use the pay yourself back feature. Read more about Freedom Unlimited here.

Chase Trifecta adds a no annual fee card like Ink Cash or Chase Freedom Flex into the mix, so your total effective annual fee will still be $95 or $250. Both of those cards give options to earn a whopping 5 points per dollar in various categories on top of the 2-3 points per dollar that the Sapphire cards offer and the 1.5-5 points per dollar everywhere else with a Freedom Unlimited card. Read more about Freedom Flex here and read more about Ink Cash here.

Chase Quadfecta would add both the Ink Cash and Chase Freedom Flex on top of a Sapphire card and an Unlimited card, so your total effective annual fee will still be just $95 or $250. The Quadfecta is the sweet spot and allows you to really supercharge your spending everywhere.

Chase Quinfecta could add the Ink Preferred to that mix, adding $95 to the annual fee total. This make sense if you spend money on shipping, social media advertising, or search engine advertising, or if you want free cell phone insurance.

Alternatively, you can create a Chase Quinfecta by adding the Chase United Explorer card, Chase United Gateway Card, Chase United Quest Card, or Chase United Business Card into the mix. Those cards don’t earn Ultimate Rewards points, but it makes your Ultimate Rewards points more valuable. Having a United card enables you to have access to significantly expanded United saver and standard award space in addition to benefits like 2 free club passes, a free checked bag, a free carry-on bag, and priority boarding, even when you’re on a basic economy fare. See more about those benefits here.

Again, all of these cards don’t need to be in one person’s name. 2 people from the same household can split up the requisite cards that make up the Quinfecta, as they can transfer the Ultimate Rewards points back and forth between themselves freely and they can add each other as an authorized user on their cards!

DoorDash DashPass Membership

DoorDash DashPass allows you to get free delivery and lower service fees on $12+ orders from select restaurants that have a blue checkmark. There are also lots of promotions and free food offers available to DashPass members.

DashPass normally costs $9.99/month.

If you add your Chase Sapphire Preferred card to your Doordash account and open the Doordash app, you can enroll for free through 12/31/21!

Airline transfer partners

You can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio to:

  • United (Star Alliance)
  • Air Canada Aeroplan (Star Alliance)
  • Singapore (Star Alliance)
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam)
  • British Airways (OneWorld)
  • Aer Lingus (OneWorld)
  • Iberia (OneWorld)
  • Emirates
  • JetBlue
  • Southwest
  • Virgin Atlantic

Hotel transfer partners

You can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio to:

  • Hyatt
  • IHG
  • Marriott

The great thing about Chase Ultimate Rewards is how versatile and valuable they are

The Sapphire Preferred card allows you and anyone in your household to transfer Chase points into miles. They also allow you to use points at a value of 1.25 cents each towards travel.

The Sapphire Reserve also allows you and anyone in your household to transfer Chase points into miles. Plus it allows you to use points at a value of 1.5 cents each towards travel.

The fixed value is excellent and doesn’t require hunting down award space, but those points can be much more valuable by transferring them into airline miles or hotel points.

  • If I want to stay in a 5 star Park Hyatt in the Maldives, Melbourne, NYC, ParisSydney, or Tokyo that would cost over $1,000/night, I can instantly transfer 25-30K points to Hyatt to do that, a value of up to 6 cents per point.
  • If I need a one-way flight from Cleveland (or Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Montreal, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Toronto, etc) to NYC that can cost $500 each way, I can instantly transfer 7.5K points to British Airways to book a short-haul on American with no last minute booking fees. Or if American doesn’t have availability I can instantly transfer 10K points to United for their short-haul award. That’s a value of up to 7 cents per point.
  • Air Canada offers one-way short haul awards for just 6K miles. You can also get stopover awards for 5K miles, build round-the-world awards, and get free lap child awards in the US/Canada and bring lap children to anywhere else in the world for just C$25!
  • If I want to stay in a non-chain hotel that costs $300/night and don’t want to pay cash, I can redeem 20K points for the room thanks to my Sapphire Reserve card’s minimum redemption value of 1.5 cents per point or 24K points with the Sapphire Preferred card’s minimum redemption value of 1.25 cents per point
  • If I want to fly in a $25,000 ANA First Class Suite round-trip from the US to Tokyo, I can instantly transfer 110K or 120K points to Virgin Atlantic. That’s a value of up to 23 cents per point. You can now redeem one-way awards for half the price as well!
  • If I want to book a $2,281 business class ticket on Air Canada to Tel Aviv I can redeem 152K points for the flight thanks to my Sapphire Reserve card’s minimum redemption value of 1.5 cents per point or 182K points with the Sapphire Preferred card’s minimum redemption value of 1.25 cents per point, plus I’ll earn Qantas miles for more future travel as it’s considered a paid flight instead of an award flight.
  • And thousands of other possibilities from Singapore couples suites to booking Southwest awards with 2 free bags and free cancellations, to stealing 2nd base in middle of an MLB game.

For current card holders of over a year when can they use the hotel credit ?

If my spouse got this card and I add myself as an authorized user I will get an additional 100,000 points and the new sign up bonuses? Or I should apply for my own card?

Is the Sapphire Preferred anniversary bonus only for the new applicants, or will all existing cardholders get this as well?

Does the Sapphire reserve also have the new benefits? Otherwise, is the SP a better product/ outweighs the SR 1.5 redemption?

too bad they not matching hotel credit for those approved a week ago

The should’ve made grocery offline as well and we’d have a real contender to amex gold and Citi premier. For now I’m sticking with those

I want to get it for my college student kid, what minimum income would she need to qualify?

Dan, do you know if I can get the bonus points, consolidate the points with my other chase cards and then cancel the new card without losing the bonus points?

Are you sure that an authorized user would get the signup bonus? (Beacause I just spoke with two Chase agents and they both said there is no signup bonus)

Are they sending the new card design to existing cardholders automatically?

Is my logic mistaken or does the 10% points bonus effectively make this card earn 10 UR points per dollar, plus the regular earnings?

More like 1.1 per dollar I believe

i waited till today to apply being that i received my bonus on the 17th 2017, and still got auto declined, they said i received bonus in oct 2017…. after going through my statements i see i received an aditional 5 thousand points in oct i beleive for adding aditional user ….is there any way around this

Applied for my wife and was denied (has a chase checking). Any point in trying reconsideration? What’s the number?

Dan, I opened a chase reserve more then 4 years ago, then I changed it to a different type of card, but I changed it back a few months ago to get the 1.5 for Pay yourself back, can I change it now back to a freedom end then back to a reserve? also you think the pay yourself back will be extended?

If I downgrade my sapphire reserve to a freedom card, Do the items I purchased with the sapphire card keep their double warranty.

Anyone else get a letter from chase asking for physical proof of residence, SSN, etc. prior to approval? I never have before for any other card!

What was wrong with the old design?

Had this card. how can i check when i got SB?
2. downgraded (to freedom amybe? a no fee card)
can apply now again for this if enough time passed?
3. best value really when can fly. otherwise paying AFs on multiple cards without redemptions

is there a reason i just get denied? i have 2 cc cards with chase, a checking and a savings. credit score over 750, no late payments, $17,000 credit line. with about $200 balance, and i entered a nice yearly income… what else can they possibly need?

could be the high credit line you already have

“You can apply and Chase won’t pull your credit or approve you if you are not eligible to get the card bonus.”
Even if the reason for ineligibility is due to not best credit?

i had CSR that I downgraded to Freedom Unlimited, applied for CSP in branch but was not showing eligible, was asked to wait until my billing cycle before trying again.
Question is I do miss my CSR amd was thiking what is the best way to get it back. Personally I like Freedom Unlimited 1.5x UR feature. I am thinking of most likely upgeading CSP to CSR once I get the signup bonus. Do you think it will be fine with Chase or it may raise Red flags?

how long did you wait in between downgrading and applying in branch?

4 days

Dan fan

I got denied after 3days of downgrade should I apply again tom?

Nechama Hackner

Do you know if they are giving out the free TSA again?

I’m tempted to sing up but nervous I will downgrade the CSR and they won’t approve me for the CSP bonus and/or let me upgrade the CSR card I just downgraded back to CSR. I am taking a risk by downgrading CSR card which is currently yielding me 1.5% return. How are you so sure that it will be seamless to downgrade CSR, sign up for CSP, and then somehow be able to upgrade within a month to regain my CSR card?

Does anyone know if I can open this up under a (legitimate) business name? Both me and my wife already have it under our names already.

from what date it start the three months to spend $4000 dallor is it the date i opened the card?

I had my card anniversary on Aug the first which means I’m losing out on a hotel credit this year.
Is there any disadvantage of downgrading to a freedom and then upgrading again to CSP to get a hotel credit?

Chase wants me to confirm application by calling their fraud operations number. Wait time is over 30 minutes or worse. Several times I got an agent and call quality was terrible so we couldn’t finish the call. Any remedies?

Dan, I applied and got a letter in the mail that I have to call to confirm that it was me applying. They give the number for the verification department. The problem is the wait time is hours and hours. I’ve waited over 2 hours a couple of times only to get disconnected. When I tried Chase’s regular credit card line they said only the verification department can help me. The two weeks they gave me is already up. Any ideas?
Did anyone else get this letter?

Finally got through after a long wait, and got approved!

I appleid few weeks ago on the offer here the site and i got denied, should i call to reconsider or should I reapply with this offer ?

Applied and was denied since I already have a Sapphire card. Downgraded to Flex, waited 4 days, and was approved.
Thanks Dan!

If my spouse has a add on to my Sapphire preferred will she get approved?

Downgraded my SR on Sunday evening, approved just now with a 13.5k line. Only mistake was renewal for global entry on Sunday morning, charge didn’t post before downgrade, so may be on the hook for the $100. Sent them a DM about it, not expecting them to bite… thanks Dan!

Reserve AF will be billed next month. used TSA and all DD Completed this month. If I dont plan travel what would be a reason to pay next months AF? $550
2. If plan to downgrade, downgrade to what no fee?
3. where can I park points so can move back when skies open? have no freedom and ink cash
4. good idea to apply now for this regular sapphire?
Thank you

@Dan I am looking everywhere on chase and it doesn’t show me how much of the $4,000 I spent already to get the sign up bonus. Can you point me to the right place?

I had a high balance on my card last month and this month I paid it off before the closing date, and the closing date was yesterday, is the new low balance already reported to the credit bureau? can I apply today already?

How long after hitting the $4k spend on average before I see the 100k points on my account

The design

Juist curious..

Is there a reason for me to call and request new design? Is it a nicer look? Any benefit with the new design?

Interestingly, I just order two extra family members, and they sent me the old design for them to.

Nice write-up Dan! Just a thanks for your great work!

I called chase yesterday and asked what day can I apply, when will the 48 months will be up and they told me on the 18th of this month so I applied today and got declined I called and they told me it was due to the fact that it was within the 48 months I told the rep I called the other day and they said I can apply after the 18th so she said that there not allowed to give a date for this reason and the system doesn’t always know the exact day that’s why I got declined and that this also goes on ur credit history that u got declined(even thow a rep said I was eligible) any recommendation about how to proceed?

For Travel

Is this a good card to use in Israel? Any fees?

There are no foreign transaction fees. I have used the card a few times in Israel for dining and I earned the (new) 3x points on each of those transactions. I think it’s a great card for use in Israel if you can make the $95 annual fee worthwhile.

Mordechai Braun

whats the call number if the application goes into review?

which airlines to israel allow free date change no time limit for booking now to TLV with CSR points?

When do you get charged for the annual fee? Right away of at the end of the first year?

During your first statement period.

Anyone know if $95 fee counts toward $4000 spending?

Does buying gift cards on this credit card count towards the $4,000 to spend to get the bonus?

i closed my old sapphire and aplied for a new one 4 days later, got denied insantly (online)
why can this happen ????? (other then 5/24) thanx

Any way/is it worth it to transfer chase points to Hilton?

Tried combining points between my cards. When I go to combine points it says you have no one to combine with, even though I have two chase UR cards and my husband has one. I called them twice but still the same situation. Is there a way for me to create my “household”?

Dan fan

Thanku after 130 minutes on the phone got approved!

#1 fan

if i got denied and then THRU THE RECONSIDERATION LINE got accepted after the offer ends, do i still get the bonus

I currently have the reserve which I got in March of 2017, can I apply for preferred to get the bonus then downgrade the reserve to freedom or a different card?

100k points still available for this card?

I got my card in the mail today – I see the $50 hotel credit but no mention of the 100,000 point sign up bonus on any of the paperwork nor on my account online. Can I assume that I got that offer? I don’t have any other chase cards.

i just downgraded to freedom unlimited when would you recommend me applying for the sapphire again?

Can I be an authorized user on a Sapphire Reserve on someone else’s card and get 1.5 cent redemption?

I downgraded on Motsei Shabbos, and wanted to apply today, but on it still shows that i have the sapphire.
Can i apply anyway or i’ll for sure get rejected?

If I get the Preferred, meet the spending limit, and then downgrade it to a Freedom unlimited, will I still get the 5x on groceries, or do I need to apply for a new freedom unlimited?

I am just about at 4 years since I got my Sapphire card. I want to transfer miles to my spouses card and then downgrade my Sapphire to become eligible for a new one. Trouble is that when I try to go to the Chase transfer page there is no option to add my spouses account. Just for my own and I don’t have an account to transfer the points to.

Hi Dan, under what category does Uber Eats
Fall under . Online groceries or dining ?
Or neither

If I have a CSP and received the bonus 2 years ago. I would like the CSR so I can get TSA precheck and Priority Pass (as well as 1.5 cents on travel). Can I upgrade to CSR and double dip prior to January on the AF? I understand I won’t get any bonus but don’t see any downside in doing this. Correct?

HI, @DAN what will be the pay your self back categories after September 30?
Thanks so much it’s appreciated

I downgraded my Chase Sapphire Reserve to a Freedom Flex card in order to take advantage of the Sapphire Preferred offer. Now that I’ve got the 100,000 bonus, can I upgrade my Freedom Flex back to the Sapphire Reserve?

If so, is there any time limit to do this?

Yo can upgrade back

If i downgrade this card before the account anniversary, will i lose the 10% Anniversary points?

Is the PYB being extended for groceries?

How long should I wait to upgrade the card back to a Sapphire reserve, I had the reserve before and closed it to open the preferred for this offer? Not going to cancel but rather change the card to the Reserve.

Thank you

Chase shut my bank Acct’s and CCs in the end of 2018. Have you heard of ppl being reinstated? If yes, what’s the process?
I tried applying for a card 4 months ago and got a continuous spinning circle.

mo fried

dan do u think i can rely on pay yourself back being extended past 9/30?

mo fried

hi dan, if i upgrade from sapphire to reserve before my 100k bonus is received can i lose the bonus?
