Delta has released some nonstop saver economy award space between the US and Israel to their partner airlines, and it’s especially good for their flights between Atlanta or Boston and Tel Aviv.

Virgin has an awesome beta award calendar here that makes it easy to find dates with award space! It tells you exactly how many seats are available in each class on every date. And no, there’s no space in any class but coach.

  • JFK to/from Tel Aviv flights cost 35K Virgin Atlantic points, 39K Air France Flying Blue miles, or 66K Delta miles each way.
  • Boston to/from Tel Aviv flights cost 35K Virgin Atlantic points, 38K Air France Flying Blue miles, or 82K Delta miles each way.
  • Atlanta to/from Tel Aviv flights cost 44.5K Air France Flying Blue miles, 45K Virgin Atlantic points, or 86K Delta miles each way.

There are no fuel surcharges for these flights.

  • You can get a 30% bonus for mileage transfers from Citi to Virgin Atlantic through 10/14 or from Chase through 11/15, so 27K Chase or Citi points would turn into 35,100 Virgin Atlantic points

Do I search on Delta or on Virgin Atlantic if I’m looking for flights from Baltimore/Washington? Thanks.

Zack

The Capital One VentureOne Rewards card should be listed too, right, for cards with transferable miles?

Maybe move to Boston

The JFK to TLV dates are thu FRI and SAT! the TLV to JFK is SAT and mon

AE

The award calendar only allows me to search from London or Edinburgh. Glitch?

AE

You need to manually override the web address to search different airports, and it’s case-sensitive. (BOS not bos.) The awards search itself only allows UK-based starting airports.

To search for Boston becomes:

Link Atlanta to tlv ?
Tlv to atl ?

What’s besr to add delta Atlanta to Ewr to complete tlv to Atlanta?

If shows available, no booking on your link. Nee d to call Virgin ?

How long is miles expiration for Virgini

AE

What?

Just change the _ _ _ &destination or _ _ _ &airline to the airport code you want. (Reverse for return trip.) Same goes for month and year.

You need to have a Virgin login to book.

No idea on the best way to get to Atlanta. I would suggest asking Dan. Although El Al and United both currently have round-trip non-stop (basic economy) tickets from EWR for $810.

NJ

looking for 4/17-5/5 – prices are higher than $810. (double)

AE

I was looking December/January. You mean tickets to go for Pesach cost way more? Shocker! 🙂

JJ1

On Virgin Atlantic there’s an additional $321.42. Isn’t that a fuel surcharge?

Yochai

Search nonstop flights

Zack

That’s for a Virgin operated flight

Yochai

Many of the BOS dates are pricing at $810 in regular economy. These will be 56K Amex plat or Sapphire reserve points through their portal, including all taxes, allow free changes, and earn points for the actual flight.

Momo

@Dan, is this actually a better option ?

Zack

Obviously it’s always worth checking the value you’re getting out of your points for a given redemption, but these can be useful if you need a one way ticket or may want to cancel as you’ll get the points back and only have to pay a $50 fee or forfeit the taxes, whichever is less. Also useful if you already have airline points sitting in an account for some reason

Ly

Just because it’s free changes doesn’t mean that your change will be free if there is a fare difference

Yochai

Correct. But in case of miles, you can use it at all if there’s no saver availability on your desired date.

GAV

When booking delta operated flights through virgin, (Cash or points) do I receive my platinum medallion benefits?

Ly

As long as your skymiles number is on the reservation

GAV

Thanks. I booked it with my delta number but wasn’t able to upgrade to C+. Rep wanted to charge $50 to reticket but I asked nicely to have it waived and then I was able to upgrade

Ly

I have in the past used 7500 VS points to book LGA-YUL and was upgraded to c+ immediately and to 1st 119 hours out. It did have a DL flight number so that might be the reason why the system wanted to charge if you have a VS flight number

Judith

I’m confused It says no fuel charges on this post for specified dates yet when I try those dates it is showing fuel charges

AE

You need to pick the non-stop flight, then it’s just taxes. ($52? per ticket.)

Zack

Direct Delta flights (which this post is referring to) won’t have surcharges. Virgin Atlantic operated flights will (and if searching USA-TLV will also have a stop in LHR)

CtownBin

Is it possible to leave from a different city via a Delta domestic connecting flight without affecting price significantly? Like from Cleveland for example 🙂

Zack

Virgin charges per leg so it’ll probably add about 8.5k each way

Ly

7.5k for CLE. It’s a distance based award chart

Zack

Only to JFK. To Atlanta or Boston (the majority of these flights) it’s 8.5k

NJ

TLV – ? in the USA east coast

does delta fly direct, with good amount of award seats?

AE

Read the post?
