One of the most common questions we get is where can I use my points and how long does a points transfer take. Below you can find charts answering those questions for the four major US credit card banks!
These charts should also guide you for which credit cards you will want to signup for and spend on, as that will depend on where you want to transfer those points to.
You can also read this post that breaks down the expiration policies and more of each program.
Note that transfer times below are typical, but timeframes can always vary, especially for new accounts.

Dan you can redeem points for business class on Singapore thru Air Canada
This is amazing, thank you!
I would note that transfer times are what *usually *happens, though sometimes it might take longer.
Had a Chase – JetBlue transfer take 2+ days, and a relative had a similar delay with Chase – British Airways.
Thanks.
Added.
Chase to United if it’s a new account it takes about 2 days
Dan, maybe another column if the receiving account can be a mismatch (same last name etc.)
Share those data points here or on DDF.
So it looks like I can transfer my Chase UR points to Virgin Atlantic and then fly Delta?
If there’s partner saver award availability, sure.
I would add
CTY to lifemiles, transfer show’s instant but in many cases point aren’t available to use until next 12am Colombia time.
I had this happen recently and found it pointed out by others
When did that last happen to you?
March 2023
It was my first transfer though. Haven’t done any since
I think it has been fixed since then, but if anyone tries, let us know.
Any idea the best travel partner to use to get from jfk to krakow Poland???
There’s never a best. There’s lots of options to check and they vary by date.
In general though, air canada is the best to get to europe unless there is united availablity where turkish will book without surcharges. LOT is star alliance, so you would probably have best bet there. Otherwise BA if there is good availability through london (surcharges?)
Why is Flying blue not the best option to Europe?
I’m not sure why you put a question mark after “surcharges.” I would have put an exclamation mark. BA typically has high surcharges.
I transferred Ultimate Reward points to United and was able to book a super saver reward on Lot airlines.
Citi to Turkish is instant if done over the phone. Just did it a month ago
Nice, any more data points for those transfers online or over the phone?
Citi to Turkish online was instant for me last week.
Booked United EWR – TLV for 47k, was not more then a few min from the transfer till ticketed
How did you find one? I have searched high and low for the last 3 years and have never been able to find any.
I just transferred CapOne points Air France/KLM took about 12 hours
Is there any way to redeem credit card points for Airbnb/Vrbo?
Usually those come up on expedia which if thats the case you can use sapphire redemption rates on chase travel. Or transfer to marriott points for homes and villas which will have the same houses
Can you add Marriott? They have several exclusive airline transfer partners.
I should have added that this is a great resource to have on a single page. Thanks for compiling it!
thank you.
which sky team partner is lowest mileage cost for short (500-600 miles) haul domestic flights on Delta?
Virgin Atlantic, but Delta blocks award space within about 3 weeks of a flight.
I transfer a lot, and most of the times it goes instantly, But I already had lots of frustrating delays on some transfers. Including to: United, Virgin, Flying Blue, Lifemiles,
it usually happens when they see something suspicious in the transfer, like large transfers to new accounts is a big trigger.
How about including Marriott points?
You write that Avianca Lifemiles currently have 15% bonus with transfer from AMEX but I don’t see that offer reflected in my AMEX account.
https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/milespoints/transfer-amex-points-avianca-lifemiles-get-15-transfer-bonus-2/
Thanks Dan!
Can I transfer from my chase account to my spouse’s rewards/miles account and vice versa?
Dunno about transferring from your UR account to airlines, but you can certainly transfer your UR to your spouse’s UR.
for those wondering about American airlines as far as I know there is currently no major credit card that transfers to them (other then the bilt card) but you could book American award travel through partners such as Cathay Pacific, BA, Qantas, Iberia and all other oneworld partners
Marriott transfers to American Airlines.
At 3 to 1. It’s a terrible rate
Hasn’t Marriott (formerly SPG) been 3:1 for all airlines for years? I always figure Marriott points are worth 1/3 of the value of bank points.
Hyatt more then 60k is not instant data from a few people but all we’re new accounts
Where can I find more info about partner airlines and booking those flights (points value etc) and/or award flights and those values.
Currently, I transfer points directly to SW or JetBlue. Occasionally use chase portal, but really dislike their lack of service and lack of assistance.
I have the chase freedom unlimited and reserve. Also have capital one quicksilver and Amex blue cash preferred
What will be the best option for south America (Brazil) to Israel?
Thanks
Turkish goes instantly from Citi?
Update- It did in fact go instantly and I was able to transfer 180k citi points to book 2 RT tickets from EWR to DUB in biz. What a bargain! Thanks Dan as always for all your help!
On what airline?
I’d assume United.
@ Dan
Points are not always instant. for exmp;
From chase there is a maximum of 99k per transfer if it’s a new account, and a maximum of 2 transfers per day of all accounts
Recently, life miles is not available instant
Capital One to Turkish is once per day and Maximum of 299k, otherwise it can take 2 weeks!! for the transfer to complete.
ETC…..
I’ve done more than 2 transfers in one day from chase
What are good uses for marriot bonvoy points?
Dan, Please, Please, please give us the ultimate guide to bank points transfers that will allow us to purchase ELAL airline tickets… thanks…
Or Israel in general.
Thanks.
Yes ! Plz plz!!
Just booked turkish to the eretz for succos 9 tickets for 650000 chase sapphire reserve points! Thanks dan !!!!!!

You mean Turkish with a stop in turkey?
What’s the best option for 110K Emirates Miles expiring this month.
What about a piece on what mileage tickets have fee or free changes/redeposits?
Hey
Do you have a chart on the best Star Alliance partner to use for United based on miles?
Recently did first time transfers from citi and chase to jetblue. Citi was instant, chase took 6 days
Transfer times can have exceptions.
I think with Chase to JetBlue it is unfortunately the rule and not an exception. I haven’t been able to do an instant transfer in at least a year. Did a transfer just 2 weeks ago and another last week and the first took 2 days and the other took 36hrs. There are tons of comments on other forums that confirm this too.
Unfortunately in both instances the JetBlue flights went up in price while I was waiting for the transfer to complete which makes this whole game virtually impossible.
You mentioned in the post that, If you, a member in your household, “or an authorized user” has one of the following Chase cards, you can transfer points into miles.
Please explain how I could transfer miles from my Chase Freedom Flex to United when my authorized user has Sapphire Reserve, Thanks.
Call Chase to transfer from your Freedom to their Sapphire.
But then I could only transfer it to their mileage account, no?
Not if they add you as an AU.
So if my mom has Saph Res, but lives in another address, I can transfer my UR points to her account and capitalize on 1.5 if she adds me as AU?
“…and Wyndham, which can book villas for just 15K points per bedroom per night.”
PLEASE, don’t let the cat out of the bag. It will without doubt erase this benefit rather quickly.
Newark to Europe on United is 80k miles plus 5 USD.
Newark to Europe on United through Air Canada website is 60k miles plus 75 CAD.
Do I understand correctly that I should transfer Chase to Air Canada, benefit from the 20% transfer, and travel for cheaper than using my United points?
Thank you. I am new to this. 🙂
That is right, but only do that if you have upcoming travel plans, also make sure before you transfer that united has saver availability for your dates (Just check Air Canada if you see your route for 60k) .
Thank you so much. Good shabbos!
Is there a way to know if there will be another bonus coming soon? Looking to trasfer UR to BA so can fly on AA
Dan you are misleading people by writing that Chase – United posts instant, when in fact as ppl wrote here, it takes 2 days if its a brand new united acc and over 99k or if its the 3rd xfer of the day … You will mess ppl up when they transfer and then cant book the flight for 2 days …
“Note that transfer times below are typical, but timeframes can always vary.”
Dan Its actually not typical at all because 100% of the time if its brand new and over 99k it will NOT be instant
Just did a transfer to United of 250K and then 200K back to back.
Both posted instantly.
Those were on old United accounts
OK? These charts are for typical usage, not for brand new accounts.
It’s very common to create a new account when you are about to transfer and book … therefore many ppl will be misled and be upset when it takes 2 days .
So read the post.
It’s a good idea to create accounts on lots of airlines just in case you might need them. It’s free and it usually takes just a few minutes.
now that AA doesn’t have saver awards anymore, do they still start restricting award tickets within 2 weeks?
Varies by route.
Chance that virgin offer comes back for citi or amex soon? need to book a flight
What’s the best way to check if an AA flight can be booked on BA? The BA site seems very buggy. I’ve had instances where I checked and there were no award tickets showing on BA, and then a few hours later it shows 7 left. Are there any other site that can be used to check availability (or is there any way to tell which tickets will be bookable on BA from looking at AA)?
Use Alaska
Dan, Many of us have lots and lots of Marriott points and Chase points. Please advise with your usual terrific detailed posts as to how we can use these points to transfer to other airlines so thay we are able to purchase ELAL airline tickets from USA to Israel. What are all of our available options And what are the advantages and disadvantages of transferring to each of the possible airlines which we can then use to purchase ELAL airline tickets.
Marriott can be transferred to Qantas at 3:1. Chase can be transferred to Marriott, but you’ll only get 1:1, so it’s a terrible rate. If you have Amex, Capital One, or Citi points, you can transfer those directly to Qantas.
Other than Virgin Atlantic – what are the Other good ways to book one ways from TLV to MIA with decent rates ? Qantas works well from US to TLV but not in reverse?
This suggestion was posted on a recent post.” Either direct with delta (Amex) or united (Chase) for 70/75K Or air France (Cap1 + 25% bonus) with stop for about 50K”
Anyone know if Qantas works from TLV to US ? they force you to switch to their international site.
Qantas works just fine in either direction
Why give business to Qatar? They operate Al-Jazeera and support organizations and terrorists that attack Israel
Otherwise, thanks for the very useful and informative table on points transfers.
Marriott?
Poor rates and always takes time. Kinda useless
I recently did a Marriott to Qantas transfer and it was completed the same day. Marriott points transfer 3:1 to most airlines, plus there’s typically a 5000 point kicker if you transfer 60k, giving you 25k airline points. If you think of Marriott points as being like bank points, you’ll think the rates are poor. The correct way to think of them is that they’re worth one third as much as bank points. The big advantage of Marriott points is the number of airlines that they transfer to.
I transferred 75K C1 points to my Air France account. Transfer was instantaneous but didn’t get the 20% bonus.
At what time?
Note: When making a transfer from AMEX to Emirates, if you have a family account it automatically goes there. It will not show up in your account. (I’m guessing for all transfers but I know Amex for sure)
Re: Citi ThankYou transfers to partner airlines… does the name have to match the name on the partner account? Ty
Amex to Hilton is %250 not %25
where could i transfer chase to?
Does transferring points from chase to Marriott extend Marriott expiration?
Yes
LifeMiles website does not work at all, and reps don’t speak English. I have no way to use LifeMiles unfortunately
Try incognito or another browser.
Can someone please explain how to transfer Thank You points to one’s Citi Premier account from one’s other Citi Credit card accounts? I’m new to this and a little confused. Thanks!
Call Citi to merge the points together.
Many thanks, Dan!
Anyone have any luck getting domestic United business seats via Turkish lately? I haven’t seen any availability in many months.
Also, it seems the Turkish website doesn’t list the direct flight on longer routes anymore, only layovers. But they’re available when you call in. Unless I’m doing something wrong….
and it seems like non matching names no longer link, anyone else tried it out ?
I transferred points from AMEX to Aeroplan yesterday and still not showing in my Aeroplan account. Generally it is instant. Anyone having similar experiences?
Yes have the same experience. Taking a few days for my transfer already
I don’t see the Cap1 to Lifemiles bonus when I go to transfer the miles. It just shows 1000 = 1000 miles. Can I call to ask about the transfer promo? It’s a new Cap1 account (~2 weeks).
How do I use points for travel on Lot Polish?
Recently transferred Amex points to Virgin Atlantic and it took almost 48 hours to show up in my account and I ended up losing the deal.
You could’ve called Virgin before you transferred to put a hold on the reservation
I just booked a flight to Tlv with a stop in Frankfurt with Lufthansa for November 1st if the 2nd leg gets cancelled would Lufthansa rebook me on elal?
Not the right place, but I just got this offer on my Citi Premier card:
Spend on eligible purchases at consumer electronic stores, department stores, clothing stores, and game stores, hobby & toy stores, Earn 5 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 01/31/2024
Is there a limit of how many UR points you can convert to United miles with an instant transfer. I was told once there is a limit. If yes how much would trigger the delay and what is the delay time.
I’m not aware of a hard number, but if you have a new account or haven’t made transfers before, they may be limits.
I haven’t had issues with 6 figure transfers.
Also: Special offer: Get 5,000 points for booking your flight and hotel through Chase Travel. Now that you’ve enrolled, book and stay by January 31, 2024.

I didn’t get it on my card when I tried to sign up via the link, I only got it direct to my account.
Just transferred amex to JetBlue new account, posted instantly BUT without the 25% bonus
You wrote that “Singapore miles is the only way to redeem for travel on their incredible business and first-class suites products” that is not accurate, I have already booked their Business class seats with Air Canada and miles & more miles
transferred amex to JetBlue new account, posted instantly BUT without the 25% bonus
Any idea if the 25% are in addition to the amount transferring,or it’s included? @dan
The usual transfer rate is 1:0.8 and with the 25% bonus it’s 1:1. How many points did you transfer and how many did you receive?
Trying to transfer Chase to Emirates Chase says Temporarily unavailable
I transferred 59K UR points to my Air canada account. Transfer was instantaneous but didn’t get the 20% bonus.
When will it post?
I transferred 190k Chase points to Singapore. It’s already more than two days, and the points still didn’t post. Any ideas?
Hi would like to know if I only have the chase ink business is there a way for me to fly with my 90k miles to Europe or to Israel?
On the topic of giving business to Qatar, while I don’t love it, it doesn’t really give them business, I am just trying to get my kids to and from yeshiva for the most part. I spoke to multiple rabbonim who said it’s fine, I am not really helping them in any way. Would anyone else speak up on best way to book? I have used the points for chi-nyc or chi-cle on AA at a slightly better rate than BA but they always seem to require a phone call and a minimum of 35 minutes on the phone. Anyone else have different experiences or a better way to go about it?
Anyone know if point purchases from Flying Blue have the 24 hour free cancel rule on flights originating in Europe?
Just transferred 126k chase to flying blue which turned into 157k FB points, which I used to buy 2 premium economy tickets jfk to tlv. The transfer was instant but the bonus 25% took a few minutes.
Got a 30k tax bill today – is there a generally best card to get now – have 4 different chase cards as of now –
@Dan,
Any idea how long it takes to transfer ultimate rewards to emirates? I transfered 2 days ago and still nothing.
cap one to life miles wasnt instant once and then wasnt instant for me
this should be checked and updated
“Note that transfer times below are typical, but timeframes can always vary”
Cap 1 –>turkish generally instant but not always. Took 72 hours to transfer a few months ago right before the deval. I was sweating bullets. A thread on FB had 6-10 people reporting the same.
No mention about Qatar and the 30% bonus?
It’s in the post.
Dan,
Which Credit card do you recommend to get the most possible pqp for united?
They now count toward 1 K status on united.
Thanks
Dan,
Which Credit Card do you recommend to get the most Possible united PQP points? They now count towards 1 K Status. I already have the united presidential plus chase card.
I have over 400k Amex points from my platinum card. I also have around 150k chase ultimate points. I need to book a bunch of tickets to and from Israel in the next few months. What’s the best way to maximize points? I prfer to book on Elal.. any way to transfer or to maybe switch my Amex preferred airline to a codeshare with Elal and get my 35% back?
i have some Citi TY rewards and go to transfer points it only shows. JetBlue 1:8 ratio, Choice privileges 1:1.5, Wyndham Rewards 1:8. doesn’t show any other options for transfers
You need a Citi Premier for that.
Is it worth chase transfer to marriott to send then transfer to Alaska ?
Dan, thank you for this super helpful post. Part of the benefit in booking miles tickets is availability to get refunded in full (or by incurring minimal costs) by cancelling shortly before the flight. Do you by any chance have, and if not can you please make, a post reflecting the ability to be refunded for mileage tickets, both for domestic and international routes? Much thanks.
Time to stop mentioning Turkish Air!!!!
Thanks for this comprehensive list!
Is BA still considered cheap for short-haul?
I transfered 218k from cap1 to air France and it didn’t show up yet so not sure if it’s always instant, do you know when it will show up?
Transfers from any bank to a new aeroplan account these days take about a week for the first transfer. Afterwards it’s instant
Hey Dan can you post if possible a article all about the alliances within airlines and the easy way to get the most miles for ur money with basic flights sorta like a beginner guide
@dan do you have any thoughts on points.me ?
is it a good service to use or better to do the legwork alone?
https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/milespoints/will-amexs-new-point-service-show-best-award-flight-options/
Thanks!!
Any (good) options to book a flight on LATAM?
Thanks
