Highest Ever Limited Time Offer: Earn 80,000 ThankYou Points With The Citi Premier Card

Signup bonus

For a limited time only, you can signup for the Citi Premier Card and earn a highest ever bonus offer of 80K Citi ThankYou points for opening this card and spending $4,000 in 3 months. Those points are worth a minimum of $800-$888 cash back, but they can be worth much more as shown below.

For example you can fly on United round-trip to Hawaii for 15K miles in coach (13.5K after a 10% rebate if you have a no-fee Citi Rewards+) or 25K miles in business (22.5K after a 10% rebate), based on saver award space availability.

Or you can fly on United round-trip to Israel for 64K miles in coach (57.6K after a 10% rebate) or 94K miles in business (84.6K after a 10% rebate), based on saver award space availability. That means you can potentially fly round-trip in business class after just meeting the spend threshold if you also have a Citi Rewards+.

The previous offer for this card was 60K points for spending $4,000 in 3 months.

Annual fee

There is a $95 annual fee, though the points and benefits are worth far more than that.

Signup bonus terms

  • You can receive the bonus on this card if you haven’t received a bonus or closed the CitiRewards+, Citi ThankYou Preferred, ThankYou Premier, or Citi Prestige card in the past 24 months.
  • You can get the bonus even if you downgraded one of those cards in the past 24 months, as long as the card number remained the same.
  • You can get the bonus even if you currently have those cards.
  • You can get multiple of the same exact card, so you can apply for a Premier card and get the bonus even if you currently have a Premier card.
  • Citi allows applications for 1 card every 8 days and 2 cards every 2 months.
  • You can check application status at 866-252-0118 and you can call reconsideration if you’re denied at 800-695-5171.

Non-expiring points

Your Citi ThankYou points will not expire for as long as you remain a cardholder. If you transfer points to another member points will expire in 90 days.

Card earnings

  • Earn 3 points per dollar on airfare. This includes all airfare as well as charges from online and retail travel agencies.
  • Earn 3 points per dollar on hotels. This includes all hotels as well as charges from online and retail travel agencies.
  • Earn 3 points per dollar on all charges from travel agencies.
  • Earn 3 points per dollar on gas stations.
  • Earn 3 points per dollar on supermarkets.
  • Earn 3 points per dollar on dining. Dining includes coffee shops, cafes, bar, lounges, and restaurants.
  • Earn 1 point per dollar elsewhere.
  • There are no foreign transaction fees.

Annual Hotel Savings Benefit

  • Once per calendar year, you can get $100 off of a $500+ hotel stay booked via Citi.
  • Reservations can be made in the primary cardmember’s or authorized users’ names.
  • If you cancel a booking made with $100 you can take advantage of it again in the same calendar year.

Card benefits

  • Extended warranty of 24 months on top of manufacturer’s warranty, for a total coverage period up to 7 years and up to $10,000.
  • Damage and theft protection for 90 days on items up to $10,000

Virtual card numbers

While Citi co-branded cards like their AA cards no longer offer virtual card numbers, their ThankYou cards like Rewards+ still do.

With a virtual card number you can set a dollar limit and/or expiration date to generate a one-time use credit card number so that you don’t keep getting charged for subscriptions or have your real card number stolen, among myriad other potential uses.

Citi Bifecta/Trifecta/Quadfecta

Citi has 3 excellent no annual fee cards that pair perfectly with a Premier card. Any of them paired with the Premier card will make for a great bifecta, trifecta, or quadfecta:

With the Citi Double Cash Card you earn 2 ThankYou points per dollar everywhere. You can cash these out for 2% cash back or you can combine a Double Cash card with a Premier card and you’ll also be able to earn 3 points on dollar on gas, dining, groceries, airfare, hotels, and travel agents, plus have the ability to transfer points into airline miles and hotel points. You will also get 0% APR on balance transfers for 18 months.

The Citi Custom Cash Card offers 5 points per dollar on up to $500 in purchases in your top eligible spending category each billing cycle. This is marketed as 5% cash back, but will actually come in the form of 5 ThankYou points per dollar spent! Eligible categories include Restaurants, Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, Select Travel, Select Transit, Select Streaming Services, Drugstores, Home Improvement Stores, Fitness Clubs, and Live Entertainment. You will also get 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months.

The Citi Rewards+ Card automatically rounds up rewards earned on every purchase to the nearest 10 points, meaning you will earn 10 points on a $0.50 Amazon balance reload, which is equal to earning 20 points per dollar spent! You will also get 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months.

Having a Citi Rewards+ Card also gets you a 10% points rebate when you redeem points, up to a 10K points rebate per year. While the Rewards+ card doesn’t transfer points into most airline miles, if you have a Citi Premier card and a Rewards+ card you’ll even get a 10% rebate on mileage transfers!

You can freely convert between all of these card products, as well as to most other Citi cards!

Closing a ThankYou point card means you can’t get a bonus on a ThankYou point card for 24 months, so you should always choose to change to another card instead of closing it. Ask the agent if your card number will remain the same so that you will still be eligible for more signup bonuses.

Statement credit

You can redeem points for cash back in the form of a statement credit at a rate of 1 cent per point.

If you also have a Citi Rewards+ Card you’ll also earn a 10% rebate on up to 100K redeemed ThankYou points.

In other words if you spend on a Citi Double Cash Card to earn 2% back everywhere and have a Citi Premier Card to cash out ThankYou points and have a Citi Rewards+ Card for a 10% rebate, you’ll can get an effective 2.2% cash back everywhere.

If you spend on a Citi Custom Cash Card to earn 5% back in your top categories and have a Citi Premier Card to cash out ThankYou points and have a Citi Rewards+ Card for a 10% rebate, you’ll can get an effective 5.5% cash back.

Gift cards

You can redeem points for gift cards to dozens of stores at 1 cent each, but Citi also runs promotions where you can get 10-20% off gift cards.

If you also have a Citi Rewards+ Card you’ll earn a 10% rebate on up to 100K redeemed and transferred ThankYou points.

    • Wyndham: 1K:1K

Don’t want to transfer miles? You can also redeem for any paid travel at a value of 1 cent per point.

You can also transfer points between any Citi cardholders to transfer points into miles.

Sample mileage uses:

Turkish Airlines:

As I’ve written about before, Turkish Airlines has a ridiculously generous Star Alliance award chart.

And they don’t charge any fuel surcharges for United flights.

Here is the North America version of the chart with one-way award pricing:

Between the US and:EconomyBusinessFirst
US, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and USVI7.5K12.5KN/A
North America10K15KN/A
Europe30K45K67.5K
Middle East32K47K68.5K
Central and North Africa 30K49K73K
Central Asia 34K52.5K77K
Southern Africa and Far East45K67.5K100K
South America and Oceania52.5K75K115K

As part of the Star Alliance, Turkish can book award travel on airlines like United and Air Canada.

You can open a Turkish Airlines mileage account online (Hint: Your password must be exactly 6 numbers or else it will give an error).

And you can book Star Alliance awards with Turkish miles here (Login and then click this link again). You can’t search for partner awards from their home page. Search for one-way at a time for best results.

For example you can transfer miles to Turkish Airlines to fly from the US to Tel Aviv on United for just 32K points, or 28.8K points in coach after the 10% rebate with a Rewards+ card:

Or 47K points in Polaris business class (42.3K after the 10% rebate with a Rewards+ card):

There are lots of other bargains, all of which will be 10% less with a Rewards+ card:

  • Fly one-way anywhere in the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and USVI, for just 7.5K miles in coach or 12.5K in business class on United with no fuel surcharges.

NYC to Miami in economy for 7.5K or business for 12.5K:

LA to NYC in economy for 7.5K or lie-flat business for 12.5K:

LA to Kauai in economy for 7.5K or business for 12.5K:

  • Fly one-way anywhere in the US to Canada or Mexico for just 10K miles in coach or 15K in business class on United with no fuel surcharges.

NYC to Cancun in economy for 10K or business for 15K:

  • Fly one-way to Europe for 45K in business class on United with no fuel surcharges.

NYC to Milan in economy for 30K or business for 45K:

Qantas:

With Qantas miles you can redeem for El Al award tickets without any fuel surcharges! You read more about this option here. Plus there have been transfer bonuses in the past.

  • A one-way coach ticket from NYC to Tel Aviv on El Al is 37.8K Qantas miles and there are no fuel surcharges.
  • A one-way premium economy ticket from NYC to Tel Aviv on El Al is 70.8K Qantas miles and there are no fuel surcharges.
  • A one-way business class ticket from NYC to Tel Aviv on El Al is 90K Qantas miles and there are no fuel surcharges.

You can also redeem for tickets on American:

  • A one-way coach ticket from NYC to Tel Aviv on AA is 31.5K Qantas miles plus $323.
  • A one-way business class ticket from NYC to Tel Aviv on AA is 82K Qantas miles plus $323.

Avianca Lifemiles: Awards on United start at just 6.5K miles and as low as 5.2K miles with frequent 25% transfer bonuses.

Flying Blue: Fly from Los Angeles to Tahiti in lie-flat business class for 64K miles. 37K Flying Blue miles is enough to fly nonstop on Delta between North America and Israel.

Emirates: With 135K Emirates miles you can fly round-trip in A380 Shower Class from JFK to Milan. With 217.5K Emirates miles you can fly round-trip in A380 Shower Class from JFK to Dubai.

JetBlue: Book awards with free cancellations.

Cathay Pacific: Avoid and lower fuel surcharges on partner airlines like AA and BA. With 90K Cathay Pacific Asia Miles miles you can book a round-trip business class award between North America and Europe.

Singapore: Book highly rated premium cabin or suites on Singapore flights that are blocked with partner miles.

Virgin Atlantic: Bargains on ANA First Class suites and on Delta flights. 7.5K Virgin Atlantic miles is enough for a Delta short-haul flight and 50K is enough to fly nonstop on Delta between North America and Israel.

You only need 55K Virgin Atlantic miles to fly one-way between the US west coast and Japan or 60K miles to fly one-way between the US east coast and Japan in first class.

Problem is finding saver award space, a rare find these days.

Yochai

Are the 24 months from when I opened the last card or got the bonus? How do I check when that was?

dave

“With the Citi Double Cash Card you earn 2 ThankYou points per dollar everywhere. You can cash these out for 2% cash back…”

the other citi cards(citi rewards and citi double cash) also let you cash out the TY points for cash back 1:1 ratio

Rochamim

The double is good, I use the hell out of it. However, here they give 3 points for gas and groceries. This one is good for the wife and great for gas. The trick is to NEVER carry a balance. All my credit cards are paid in full before the payment date. Once you carry a balance you get hit with the ridiculous interest charges.

moshe

link invaild…?

Yechiel

When applying does Citi let you know if you are ineligible for the bonus?

Yg99

What do you mean by:
That means you can potentially fly round-trip in business class after just meeting the spend threshold if you also have a Citi Rewards+.?

Dave

Dan, is it one per household or will my wife and i both be eligible?

UncleMo

Just got approved for this card 5 weeks ago with the 60k offer! Is Citi good in this, if I call, would they give me the 80k bonus?? TIA

Y

“The Citi Rewards+ Card automatically rounds up rewards earned on every purchase to the nearest 10 points, meaning you will earn 10 points on a $0.50 Amazon balance reload, which is equal to earning 20 points per dollar spent!”

Can i do this 1,000 times when planning on placing an amazon order of $500 or its going to flag my account?.

Thank you!

AJ

What will be a good card to downgrade to if I don’t want to pay the annual fee and if I already have the rewards+? Or is it better just to cancel? Main concern is not losing the 30K TY points I still have.

Mordechai Nir

Not understanding the sign up details at all. If I got a signup bonus for the custom cash card a couple months ago. Does that mean I’m not eligible now?

itamar

I’ll just say that I have NEVER had success finding availability on Turkish’s ‘star alliance search no matter what dates and routes I put in, but especially for TLV, so I am envious you were able to find bookable results… is there anything I am doing wrong? pretty much every date (not just jewish holidays where supply is limited) gives zero results.

these non-stop to TLV are extremely hard to book with miles on business class, unless doing it for north of 200K miles per segment, so anything I could learn to get there would be highly appreciated! 🙂

thanks for the great content!!

Pat

I could never get anything on the Turkish airlines site either….I thought it was because I was trying some domestic flights out of Cleveland. I must be doing something wrong too. @dan would appreciate any help

EE

@dan i just got rejected. I last closed this card in Feb 2020. Is there a reconsideration line?

Dan

Same here. Because I don’t spend enough of available balance. Never had this issue before.

Love hacks

Just had the same thing happen to me 🙁

Doug

Wow, denied… that hasn’t happened in a LONG time! Can’t figure out why. The only thing I can think of is I just got the Citi Custom Cash 2 weeks ago (applied on 5/31) and am still working on that $750 spend? I also have a Citi TY Preferred that I have held for 9 years now.

Now that I look back, this WOULD be my 3rd TY Premier though: First one opened 7/15/2012 and CX on 7/28/2013. Second one opened on 7/20/2018 and CX on 7/5/2019.

But still, that is over 24 months since I cancelled the last Premier… more like 35 months.

Waiting to receive the email/letter to see if they provide an explanation and I suppose I’ll re-apply if I think I can get a different result.

Any other ideas? I’d like those 80K TY Points 🙂

ZD

Dan posted a reconsideration phone number above

Doug

Okay, Citi emailed me the reason(s) they denied me for the Premier:
1) Credit report shows high amount of unused credit compared to available credit lines
*** I keep track and my available credit is not actually that high at: $76,900 across all cards, but I typically only use $1,000 – $2,000 per month and pay in full.
2) Too many bank or national revolving accounts
*** Again, I really don’t think I have that many, as I try to trim away cards when I can. At the moment I have 12 open/active credit cards (2 AmEx, 3 Chase, 3 Citi, 1 Cap One, 1 Discover, 1 Synchrony, & 1 US Bank).

Oh well, not sure how I can get around that unless I lower my credit limits and try again, but I try not to keep any of my credit limits too high anyway. I could also trim away the Cap One and Discover card as I hardly use them, but they’re NAF and I sometimes use the points for when Amazon has a $ off deal.

chaim

hi! if i applied for the 60k a few weeks ago but didn’t activate it because it never arrived. do u think i can reapply or ask them to match it etc

Shaloms

Try calling and tell us what happens

Israel

I didn’t get the bonus because I downgraded the card in the past 24 months. any advice?

Rachel

I’m trying to figure out why people like United points. Every time I ever looked for flights (around 20 different dates) the points redemption was always high. Where are these hidden seats? I am a United card member so I’m supposed to have better options, but I never found low-mileage seats yet! Please help me figure out why?! Ty

Dave

Do you know when this offer will be ending?

Looking4newCard

How does this compare to Capital One Venture card? Would you say this is the best signup bonus since the Chase Sapphire Preferred signup bonuses?

Credit

I seem to only see options for .8 cents per point when redeeming for statement credit?

anon

how do you redeem for 5 flights to Hawaii?

Shmulies Neighbor

Declined! i have an 800 score with 3 other CC’s with very low balances along with the costco cit card in excellent standings. 2 recent paid off cars and low balance on my mortgage. @dan Any ideas why they would dare decline me?

Fern Chamow

Same happened to me! No balances on any card with 800 plus credit score. WHY?

Ari

How does this compare to the capital one venture card?
If I get 2 points per dollar on venture card than will that be worth more in paying for a united flight?

EE

@dan Will citi look at business credit cards under my ssn when considering me for the citi premier card?

Moshe

What is the best card to currently get with the intention of transferring point to Turkish airlines for reward flights?

Charles

Does it cover primary car rental insurance?

anonymous

does target/walmart count as groceries

Ben

For someone who wants the simplest way to get credit card points or cash back, the citi double cash seems like a great option at a constant 2% without thinking about categories or redeeming points for travel etc. if I wanted the double cash card, do you suggest opening this premier card for the sign up bonus and then transferring line of credit to the DC?

Y

“Citi allows applications for 1 card every 8 days and 2 cards every 2 months.”

Does this apply to Co-Branded Cards as well?

Lets say i want to apply for the premier and for the Citi aa platinum select card which also has currently a generous offer.

Thank you!

Doug

How many days after I get a rejection letter do I have to call reconsideration before they’ll say it’s too late and I’d just have to re-apply? (Also, if the phone number isn’t already posted on this page somewhere, will someone please post it? If it’s here, I’ll find it).

The rejection letter was date June 16, 2022. (Reasons were 1) high amount of UNUSED credit, but I don’t know if they mean on existing Citi cards or across ALL cards, and 2) too many bank or national revolving accounts, but I think there are only 10-12, which doesn’t seem all that high to me).

Charles

Hey Dan what would happen if I spend on a card that has foreign transactions fees and then shift the balance to another card? Would they still charge 3%?

Mark

Hi Dan
Sorry for bothering on this but Think I’m asking something that applies to many here.
I was rejected (for the first time in years) due to too many cards and too much unused credit. Does it pay to get rid of some of the credit or cards or it wouldn’t help?
On the phone they did not sound promising at all.
Thanks a mill

Lynn

Right, that is happening to many of us! Citi is really playing hard to get!

Leibl

Some how my online account got locked, and there is nobody to talk to, I waited over two hours on the phone to get to a representative (an Indian…) and then he transferred me to technical support where I waited another half hour on the line…. They have worst costumer service I saw with any bank.

Jennifer

@dan which credit card, paired with which airline gives someone the best way to get to Israel? We are new at this.

L

How do you find direct flights from israel on Turkish?

g

Dan, got this card and Citi must have put some sort of fraud alert or block on the card as every 2 weeks it gets locked for a small grocery purchase or the like. Have to call them every 2 weeks when it locks to verify account and have it unlocked. Small purchases in same area as billing zipcode. All local small pizza shop or grocery items.

Their customer service is terrbile and no matter which US manager spoken to (intial reps are overseas), the problem can’t be fixed and they won’t even acknowledge their is a problem. No reason for a card to lock every 2 weeks for tiny purchases. They just unlock the card and say they don’t see any problem and some cards have a learning curve on your spending habits. No such thing. Had many cards and never had this before.

The managers just read from a script and they won’t budge on refunding the annual fee or provide compansetion for all the time and headache involved with this. The US managers have also gotten pretty rude when we insit there is an issue and the annual fee or something in compensation should be done.

Do you have a number of someone in senior Citi Cards to reach out to on this or have insight on this.

g

To add, have sterling long term credit history with a large credit limit. No reason to lock every 2 weeks or so on small local purchases.

nw

You write “so you can apply for a Premier card and get the bonus even if you currently have a Premier card.” is this only if you havnt recieved a bonus in the past 24 months?

If you downgrade this card to a non fee say doublecash card – do you lose the points from the sign on bonus?

Rivky

Same question

Chaim

If I have the premier card and my wife gets the rewards+ card will I be able to get the 10% rebate?

Joe S

I’m a glutton for punishment (and credit hits) to keep trying for this card, even while under 5/24 with very few credit hits. Trying to stay clear of Chase for a few months, so got the Capital One Venture 75K instead after being rejected for this.

Levi

Applied for this card last week. Now the application status link says they have sent a reference number in the mail. What does that mean?

Mike

I applied for this card and got rejected in part due to history of opening multiple credit cards within the last year. I called reconsideration, but they simply listed reasons for rejection and said there was nothing to be done. However, the following week I received an advertising letter from Citi noting i was prequalified for this card. Does this increase my chances of getting approved?

Sean

Got rejected, and consideration its because I opened *ONE* card in the last 12 months, not even Citi… I’ve never heard of this, has anyone? And is there a workaround?

Joe

Anybody know if costco counts as a supermarket for 3 points? Thank you.

Chaim

Joe

Thank you.

is there a foreign transaction fee

Charles

Can someone let me know if this card gives you primary rental car insurance?? Can’t find the info online anywhere.

Mordy

no

Is there any way to spend immediately after approval, before the physical card arrives? Perhaps with a virtual number?

Long time Fan! Dan\'s the Best

Hi Dan! care to comment about why you are not responding to all these people (including me:)) that have great credit and are getting denied because of too much available credit/ not enough usage… thanks

Mendel

So weird, I got rejected. Have great credit and haven’t opened a card in years. Only thing I can think of is a refinance this year, but that shouldn’t have been a reason. Called, they were super unhelpful and unfriendly.

Zd

Other than not getting the bonus, is there a downside to being rejected? Does it affect your credit score???

Chaim

Yes and yes

Zd

Ouch. Thanks for the reply. Makes me think twice reading all this stories because I too have a great credit score etc

DL

Just got approved with your link, thanks Dan!

Eli

Hi, Dan.
I applied today for this card(with ur link , of course) and was rejected. My Fico is 750, my credit usage is about 30 percent, and I have not applied for a CITI card in 3 years. My application was rejected. I called CITI and was told that sometimes if you have to much available credit, the system will reject you. They told me that they have no mechanism to override that. Dan, do you have any suggestions ?

Jerry

Dan,
Does it make sense to buy a MacBook without AppleCare+ using this card and rely on the 24 month extended warranty from Citi?

Flash613

Got the card, thanks Dan! Is this card primary insurance on car rentals?

nirc

Problem is finding saver award space over the next 4-8 months. Even in economy it’s very difficult.

Rochamim

So I applied for the card, I have a credit score of 805. They approved me for just $3000.00. I go through that every week, easily. I am going to be bouncing the balance back and force until they up my limit. Let’s see how much I can soak Citi for on this one. Thanks for the reference.

Parnes

Hi Dan, How do you find these star alliance business class seats on Turkish? I followed all the steps and lots of dates have no availability at all, and the dates that do have its only economy, I tried many dates and many different airports and I’m only getting economy, am I doing anything wrong?

ninjaleh

Same! That’s the one thing that keeps me from applying…

John

What’s the best no annual fee citi to downgrade to?

Barry

@Dan
any suggestion on how to long wait to reapply after getting a rejection (due to too many credit inquiries).
And overall guidance with Citi (who seems to be only place that rejects perfect credit scores.. days after getting rejected in July, I opened 2 chase cards – 1 consumer, 1 business)

M

Are all the united booked through Turkish airlines a set amount of points or do they fluctuate is it possible to find a date I’ve tried and I can’t find any?

Do gift cards work towards the spending?

How much is it to fly nonstop t from ewr to tlv United Polaris with Turkish

Gary72

Tried for the card and was rejected due to too many credit inquiries. When I checked my credit, there were only 2 and one was from Citi. I called and after a number of conversations, I was told it would be reconsidered. Rejected within 3 days again. My credit score is in the low 800’s and though it is irrelevant for this bank, I am under the 5/24. C’est la vie…

Itchakadoozie

Am I the only one that read the post and the one thing that stuck out was Turkish airlines requiring a 6 digit passcode?!?! You know how simple those are to crack??

Sign with Turkish? No thank you!

jac

Dan two questions:
1) If i changed my Citi premier to a Citi double cash and the account number changed, i won’t get approved or get the bonus points again?
2) my chase sapphire preferred got the annual fee, what would be a better idea to do – in terms of not raising a red flag -to downgrade the card to a freedom card or to close the account? (if to close should i first move over the credit line to one of my 2 exiting cards?)

Y

@Dan applied for the card through your link and got approved
Thank you!

My 4 months was up about a week ago but nothing posted yet….
