Update: DansDeals reader Yitzi Katz writes that The Grill at the Grand Hyatt is on par with the best kosher restaurants in the world, with top notch food, service, and ambiance. He says that he was extremely impressed and would happily pay to eat here if it were a restaurant in NYC, and even more so in a place like Playa where upscale kosher dining doesn’t exist.

Some of his favorite dishes were the BBQ Ribs, Smoked Marrow Bone, and Short Rib Tacos:

The hotel offers an all-inclusive rate, which includes unlimited food and drinks, among other benefits:

Yitzi also shared this menu with food that would be free for guests staying on the all-inclusive rate. You can also upgrade and pay the difference for dishes on the regular menu.

Here is the regular menu. 100 pesos is equal to about $5.

Prices are a lot higher than at the nearby highly rated kosher restaurants in Playa and are more in-line with an NYC steakhouse, but that’s to be expected in an upscale hotel restaurant.

Last December, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar became the first Hyatt in the world to have a full time kosher restaurant.

It has done so well that the hotel now offers a kosher food truck as well as kosher breakfast and room service options.

The Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort in Mexico is now opening their own full time kosher restaurant. The hotel is within walking distance of Chabad of Playa and located about an hour south of Cancun.

Clearly, the kosher market is having a moment.

While the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar has a monopoly for kosher food in the Bahamas, The Grand Hyatt Playa faces stiff competition from multiple highly rated nearby kosher restaurants. But it will offer stunning oceanfront fine dining right in the hotel.

The menu can be found here, though there are no prices listed during their soft opening.

Kashrus information can be found here.

The Grill will be open for lunch and dinner as well as for Shabbos meals.

Going for last days sukkos via FLL. Serious question: will Spirit let me fly with a Lulav? Or will that replace or be larger than a personal item?

Ic

They have a screener at Cancun customs specifically trained to look for frum passengers and take it way. Mine was in a lulav holder tube, hidden from view, and she found it, then looked through everything to get my arrovot, esrog, and haddassim.

Nechemia

That is a helluva story….did you buy the movie rights?

elikay

As someone who has been to Mexico countless times… it is true. They make tremendous problems for arba minim, or at least have done so in the past.

Nao

They told us if we had usda treat the estrog and lulav first with special indicationd that makes it “safe” for them ee can bring it and bring certificate along

I think the issue here might not be the size, but the fact that it’s technically an agricultural product.

A

Already a lot of kosher in playa but having it in a hotel other than banyan tree is big

MSG

Would you think any of the many All Inclusives will offer Kosher dining?

MSG

In Playa, its not just stiff competition on choices but also on price. I’ve found the local restaurants to be amazing food but at even better prices for a vacation destination.

D

I stayed at the hotel last year, it was a great stay but expensive. That’s amazing to see that they are offering kosher, I am not familiar with the hechsher but hopefully it’s a recognized one.

Ralph

I stayed here around 2 months ago with my wife
We used stayed in a super nice suite but it overlooked the bar below which was from a different hotel and was blasting music the whole day extremely loud !
There’s also a kosher restaurant right around the corner which was very good
But overall the beach was dirty had like yellow stuff coming up on to the beach and it smelled horrible
Not coming back here so fast

Dave

Xdan, it’s time! Similarly to Jetblue and Spirit, it’s time for Dan’s deals to aquire Elan Kornblum’s Great Restaurant Kosher Foodies. It’s all over the wall. Good posting.

Nathan

Is this an all inclusive resort and if so is the restaurant included?

Redw

Are any of these restaurants open and kosher on Passover?

J Katz

Dan,
I have a reservation tonight – I’ll post a review w some pics later this evening.

Yoni

Yes plz

David

Oh wow, so it’s open already?! Might go next week!

1) Is it possible to pay for the all-inclusive rate using points?
2) How much is it to upgrade from the all-inclusive menu to the a-la-carte menu? I see that the posts says to pay the difference, but the difference between what? The menus are different so can’t compare?

FBR

Is the all inclusive rate worth it? Can you book on points and upgrade to the all inclusive package?

Logoc

Banyan tree kosher restaurant is very mediocre. Local restaurants that deliver are much better and cheaper.

Yisroel

I’m waiting for the all inclusive hotels to offer kosher food, even a regular basic fast food menu would be good

M

Can someone clarify who’s the Simpser kashrut. And if it’s reliable

meir

Does a Globalist receive the all inclusive package by booking with points?

Bk

Awesome !

Add it to the list of koshe restaurants in playa.

Was just there… the chabad on av 20 has 2 kosher restaurants, a kosher supermarket and a tourism office. Love it!

asking for a friend

Is there any tzinus options for hotels (or time of a year) in cancun? This hotel seems nice, just wondering if a yeshivish couple would enjoy.. THANKS!

Anon

If you need to ask then don’t go. You’ll just annoy yourself. You’ll have more fun at the homowack

Robert

We stayed there and had a great suite on the bridge right on the ocean, over the pool. Would not stay again. Too noisy. Poor beach. The club was pretty good for a pre dinner drink although we always ate off site. Much better, much cheaper. When we go back to Playa Del Carmen we will stay at the Mayakoba again. We enjoyed it far more.

Aaron

Does anybody know if this a reputable hechsher?

David Smith

What are some other good kosher restaurants and activities in the area. Plan on snorkel Cozumel day trip Thursday. I’m headed there tomorrow for the first time inspired by this post! Weather looks iffy so let’s hope it’s all good.

Bm

Does anyone know if there will be a succah?

Yitz

Can you book the kosher all inclusive with points ?
