My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

  • An additional year of warranty coverage, double the original manufacturers warranty, and if you have any issue in the extended warranty year they’ll pay to have it fixed or refund your entire purchase price without a hassle. This benefit is far more valuable than warranty benefits offered by other banks.

6 months spending?

Mo Mo

You actually have 6 months to meet the 4k spend, not just 3 months.

I’m actually considering this card. I was wondering if there’s any way of knowing when they’ll change it back to 3 months.

EE

@Dan When do they charge the first annual fee? And if I had an Amex Gold card 3+ years ago, would I get the bonus?

Justmeha

Same
No

Chaim

I think the gold card’s purchase protection actually includes lost items now too.

Moose

I got declined automatically and when I called to be consideration line they said due to covet they are not doing reconsiderations. Is that accurate, is there a different number I can call? Thank you so much for all your expertise

Dudu

Dan – what is the highest offer you have seen for this card?

Sol

@Dan on a separate note, Chase is having a promo of up to 50% points value for Apple products. Do you think this is a good way to use chase points?

Soon to be Israeli

@sol – I saw that too but I thought Chase required you to purchase the Apple product through their shopping mall and I’m wondering if the Apple products there are more expensive? If its straight go to Apple store buy an iphone and redeem with Chase points there might be value there.

George

Is there a fee the first year? Can it be downgraded to a no AF amex card?

Saul

Yes,
No, cheapest downgrade is Green card for $150 (with which you should still be able to transfer points to airlines), otherwise you’ll need to close the card if you don’t want to pay the annual fee.

@Dan – AMEX is the strangest CC company. I am repeatedly receiving a pop up saying I’m not eligible for intro promo bonus offers. I’ve never at any point owned a CC that earns AMEX points. My FICO is above 850. I never carry a balance. I do hold several Chase and Citi cards. It is odd that over the last 5 years anytime I attempt to open an AMEX member rewards card I get rejected for the bonus and have to withdraw my application. I hold Amex Hilton cards and an AMEX Delta card but those earn Hilton and Delta points.

Why do they discriminate against me? Even stranger yet they constantly solicit me for affinity cards like Hilton and Delta so they are not concerned about my credit risk but they seem to be babies about me enjoying their points. Are they just afraid I will take advantage of them? AMEX is very low in my eyes. Any advice on how to straighten these idiots out?

Saul

You are taking it too personally. They may be making a mistake when they deny you a chance to get the bonus, but it would be a bot making that technical error, not some greedy Amex executive. You can try your luck with some of the Amex executive contacts, which are a bit higher up than regular Amex customer service and may step in when regular customer service cannot resolve an issue. https://www.elliott.org/company-contacts/american-express/

Joel

I’m having exactly the same issue

Saul

Did any of you with this issue ever give your SSN to someone who promised money to you? Even if he followed through and gave you the money, it would mean he probably applied for every possible card in your name. If you never did anything like this, it is truly an issue and you should contact Amex executive customer service.

mm

Can I get this offer if I once had this card?
How do I check if I ever had this card?

Abe

Can I buy a airline gift card and and get the annual 100 airline credit

Aaron

What would the best card option for hotel spend?

DD

if I had the gold card 5 years ago would I still not be eligible

Freecountry

Why do you say doubled dip and not triple dip with 2022?

BrooklynDan

If I apply and get approved today 12/17, will I get card on time for 2020 airline credit?

Amex

they give you you a temporary card number right away

Anon

What about upgrades? Will upgrading tonight still qualify? Got a 40k upgrade offer. (Prob gonna take it regardless, but timing..)

RS

Does anyone know if grubhub credit works on gift cards?

Richie

If I currently have the gold card would I be able to request a Rose gold card?

JonG

can you request a rose from the amex plat page?

Sue

If I already have the Amex Gold Business card, can I still qualify for this bonus and card? I could cancel the Bus Gold if I can’t have both. As I see most Amex offers have been targeted to the Consumer cards.

YoniPDX

Pondering if Airline credit would be refreshed with downgrade to the Gold. The inverse was the case when upgrading – the airline credit was topped up to $200 – with same airline selected.

Q

Can i switch to rose gold

Isaac

Are additional card mebers eligible for the $120 Uber & Seamless credits?

shulem
