As previously reported, as of today Israel is open for all tourists for the first time since March 2020!

Tourists do still have to take a PCR test before travel, a PCR upon arrival, and a PCR or antigen test before returning to the US. That and the mask requirement will dampen some demand, but people that want to go to Israel are free to do so, regardless of their vaccination status.

I took a look at previous polls on DansDeals and they’re interesting to see.

On 3/19/20, 92% of readers felt that US should close their borders and 73% wanted a nationwide lockdown.

On 3/29/20, the vast majority of readers wanted the US to require masks when leaving their homes:

On 6/15/20, a plurality of readers were happy with stricter rules for masking on planes.

On 6/16/20, 68% of readers thought that Israel would reopen in 2020. It wasn’t even a thought that Israel would remain closed past 2021:

On 8/25/20, 84% of readers thought that Israel would reopen by the first half of 2021:

On 10/25/20, 88% of readers thought that Israel would reopen by the end of 2021 and 75% thought it would open in the first half of 2021:

On 11/29/20 and on 12/28/20, 86% of readers thought that Israel would reopen by the end of 2021 and 65% thought it would be open in the first half in 2021:

On 1/28/21 88% of readers thought that Israel would reopen by the end of 2021 and 49% thought it would be open in the first half in 2021:

On 4/23/21 82% of readers thought that Israel would reopen for vaccinated tourists by the end of 2021 and 35% thought it would be open for unvaccinated tourists by the end of 2021:

On 6/23/21 46% of readers thought that Israel would reopen for vaccinated tourists by the end of 2021 and 8% thought it would be open for unvaccinated tourists by the end of 2021:

In the end, Israel opened in November for vaccinated and boosted tourists in November 2021, but closed 4 weeks later.

They reopened in January 2022 for vaccinated and boosted tourists and opened today for all tourists.

So, how were your guesses over the years? Do you think the opening will last this time?

Now how about a poll on Canada? Will do they open up to unvaccinated in 20 years or never?

Main question now is ‘until when’

Steve

Do you have to pay for the PCR test when you arrive and leave Israel?

Ben

yes. If you are coming back to the United States, you can enter with an Antigen Test that was taken within 24 hours. I used SuperPharm in Mamilla Mall Jerusalem. They were inexpensive and got the results to me in under 2 hours. Our flight was 11pm, We took the test at about 12:30PM, results for my family members began to trickle in about an hour, with the last result coming well before 2 hours had passed.

Moe

how much were the tests?

ly18

yes

ly18

you can get by ichud hatzola for about $20 results in about 20 minutes

Andrew

Hi Dan, are certain forms still required or was that also cancelled?

SM

How does one do the 24 hour quarantine? Can you check into a hotel, or do you need a home/apartment rental (or family)?

Ben

I landed at 4:45 PM IST, our test results didn’t come until 8 hours later. For us at least, they didn’t give us any instructions. We did fill out our form that we were staying at an AirBnB apartment. We went when they were still using the Green Pass. Our green pass was post dated 1 day after our arrival to allow for Quarantine. No one checked anything for us.

izzy

hotel is fine. I don’t think anyone actually quarantines though. (speaking from experience).

Moe

nice article. it will nice to see more of these corona timelines showing how the pandemic affected all aspects of our lives.

Mark

Just showed up on Israel last week and there’s no quarrentining happening anywhere to my knowledge. Once I took the PCR and left the airport, that was the last I heard about Covid. I’ve been in Jerusalem with very few masks in sight, in Safed, Tiberias, again no masking or any of that stuff. It’s pretty much only a discussion when you’re arriving. Other than that, you’re on your own.

Come and ignore the noise.

Juke

Same experience. I asked the nurse at the PCR testing station in TLV – so what do I do now until the results come in? She looked at me like – “just go do whatever you want. Have a good day.”
Welcome to Izrael.

Can someone please make it clear?
I have flight next Sunday from NYC to tlv stopover in Istanbul

I can come to the airport just like b4 COVID start or I still need the PCR test for the airlines requirements?

Sam

You need to fill out the form and get a neg pcr up to 72 hours before. Once you land you will need another pcr.

I have Israeli citizenship is make any difference?

Lubaby

It’s percentage of voters, not percentage of readers..

Sarah

What happens if the arrival test is positive? I still have seen NOTHING in reply to this situation with so many false positives. And I am a citizen but with no home in israel.

Sarah

You didn’t answer Gaga and my comment also.

I have second Israeli passport but do not have home in israel currently and I have refused to go to Israeli as unvaccinated, so to speak word, and stay at a quarantine hotel. Have they done away with quarantine hotels and can I go to my regular hotel While I wait result and if positive just stay there?
