Lifemiles has always been quirky. I always spent a chunk of DansDeals seminars talking about how to fly to Asia, Oceania, Europe, or the Middle East for the price of a domestic US ticket.

Most of those were fixed over the years, but one persistent one is that you can still book flights from JFK to Lisbon in TAP Portugal business class for just 35K miles one-way.

Lifemiles+ subscribers will pay just 31.5K miles after accounting for the 10% rebate.

Sadly, this pricing only applies from JFK to Lisbon. The return from Lisbon to JFK prices at 63K Lifemiles. Newark to and from Lisbon costs 63K Lifemiles each way.

You can save a few miles by going through Air Canada for the return:

There is currently JFK-Lisbon business class availability for 35K Lifemiles on the following dates:
November 24
January 13, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29
February 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 25, 26

Lisbon to JFK 63K business class dates include:
November 28
December 10, 11, 12, 13
January 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29
February 4, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26
March 4, 25, 31
April 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10

Sadly, TAP’s flight from Lisbon to Tel Aviv is suspended, though El Al does operate the route.

What’s the best way to get lifemiles?

How is the TAP J product?

C

Terrible. I’ve booked with them twice. Once they canceled due to Covid restrictions (understandable) but it took me 16 months and a dozen calls to get a refund. Other time I was delayed 23 hours due to plane maintenance – took over 12 months to get reimbursed for the hotel they said I should stay at.

Avoid TAP Portugal
