How does it work with import taxes to Israel nowadays?
stay under $75 and you’re fine.
PLEASE NOTE: even if a coupon or lightning deal takes a total under $75, you may still have to pay the tax. Tax is based on the price before the discounts, even if in the end it is under $75. Usually the Green “check here for $4 off” does not count meaning if it is $77 but the click for green check makes it $73 you are OK, but $77 and then a coupon/lightning brings it down to $73 – you will pay Ma”am as if it was 77.

tax is always calculated on what you actually paid. Amazon calculates it all for you – if you don’t see any any tax or import fee deposits – you won’t pay any tax.

Sorry but not 100%true. Israeli customs which I assume that we are talking about , is not calculated on price paid but the original “customs book” value. The invoice you show as your purchase price can be not accepted if there is a large variance from the book.
For instance if you get a jeweler to give you an invoice for a Rolex watch for $200 they will not charge you based on your invoice.
Even if you can prove something is a gift you will pay book value customs.
On low value items there shouldn’t be a problem but watch out as the price goes up
