Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott all allow free point transfers between members.

However, IHG hasn’t historically allowed free point transfers. Point transfers cost $5 for every 1,000 transferred points, which is an absurd price to pay.

The good news is that IHG Business Rewards members, as well as Diamond elites, can now transfer up to 500K points per calendar year free of charge.

I had long forgotten about it, but my wife and I were already enrolled in IHG Business Rewards from a promotion years ago.

That meant I was able to consolidate our points into one account without paying for the privilege. Score!

The transfer took 24 hours to complete and I had to make 2 transactions as I was moving over more than 250K points.

You can enroll in IHG Business Rewards here for free, but it may take up to 30 days for new business rewards members to be able to transfer points for free.

IHG points expire after 12 months of inactivity, though if you have elite status your points won’t expire. The good news is that transferring points will extend the expiration date for the sender and receiver by 12 months!

My Diamond account seems to have no fees but my wife’s business account is still showing them (although we didn’t pull the trigger on either transfer to confirm). Have you seen zero fees in a Business Rewards account that doesn’t have Diamond status?

Do both accounts have to be enrolled or just the one transferring?

Anyone else have an issue with the link to transfer IHG points? It doesn’t work anymore.
