The Miami-Tel Aviv route has been a big success for both American and El Al.

El Al launched the route in November 2017 with 3 weekly 777-200 flights. It’s now flown 5 times weekly on 787-9s.

American launched the same route last June with 3 weekly 777-200 flights.

The airline writes to DansDeals that effective 10/29, they will operate the route daily on 787-8s.

The flight timing will also be tweaked. Currently the flight departs Miami at 10:45pm and arrives into Tel Aviv at 6pm the next day. That will change to an 8:10pm departure, arriving into Tel Aviv at 3:30pm the next day.

Currently the flight returns from Tel Aviv at 11pm and arrives into Miami at 5:20am the next day. That will change to an 11:20pm departure, arriving into Miami at 5:37am the next day.

This comes after American cancelled their Dallas-Tel Aviv service before it ever launched and after the airline announced 6 additional JFK-Tel Aviv flights during the October holiday season.

American’s 777-200 has 37 business class seats, 24 premium economy seats, 66 main cabin extra seats, and 146 economy seats, for a total of 273 seats.

American’s 787-8 has 20 business class seats, 28 premium economy seats, 48 main cabin extra seats, and 138 economy seats, for a total of 234 seats.

That’s a downgauge from the 777-200, but represents an overall increase of seats in the market as it moves from 3 weekly flights to 7 weekly flights. It may also mean that business class upgrades will be harder to come by, as business class represents 13.6% of the seats on the 777 vs just 8.5% of the seats on the 787-8.

If demand for the flights remain high, I’d expect that American would upgauge to a 787-9 or back to the 777.

I’d love to see American fly their flagship 777-300ER to Tel Aviv one day, as that would have the only First Class cabin between North America and Israel.

Have you flown on American to Israel since they relaunched service last year?

Missing from this article is the important note about the two different business class configurations of the AA 777-200, with one being excellent and the other being horrendous!

I have flown AA JFK-TLV-JFK and experienced both configurations. I am scheduled to fly next week, and have picked a seat which based on my research should be acceptable also with the bad configuration.

The only way to know which configuration one gets is once the aircraft is assigned two days before the flight, and then check https://sites.google.com/site/newamericanfleet/american-mainline/boeing-777-200er?authuser=0 if the seats are ZODIAC that’s the bad configuration.

Thanks for the link.
How exactly do I check which aircraft was assigned? It would only show 777-200.

I use Flightradar24 app. Look at the Reg. Number and then check the link to see which configuration that plane has. Just BTW I have seen the assigned plane switched the morning on the flight. Luckily it was in my favor.

Yup. I flew this route on AA back in November in J, and was lucky enough to had the good configuration both ways. Was very happy with both the product and the service. Glad to see that they have moved this to the 787. @dan do
You think this will mean more saver award availability on that route in J?

I have an upcoming trip to the West Coast in August. Due to scheduling restrictions, I have no choice but to leave Motzei Shabbos, and for months, the cheapest option to fly was American including the TLV to Maimi flight.
But then they canceled it on that date (August 20th). šŸ™
As long as this remains theoretical, it isn’t very helpful… but everyone has that problem in this environment. At least it wasn’t canceled right before the flight!

Still waiting for the PHL-TLV route to be resurrected and flown by either AA or El Al

Was very pleased with a recent tlv-jfk flight. Quick check in time (especially compared to the endless lines at LY) and a great crew.

Only issue is the backwards seats.

Is it real

I have flown this route 3 times since last August in J. As an Executive Platinum, AA is my airline of choice, and direct flights is my preference. This route has been a pleasure all three times.

Anyone think BWI will ever get serviced to TLV

My son has been going back and
Forth for the last few years from
Miami to tlv. He flew Turkish, Elal and American. His best experience
Was on American. He said they were polite clean generous and nice. Granted it was still
During covid when flights were still somewhat less busy. If the price was right I would love to try them. I still find Elal
Caters to the Israelis on board more than the Americans.

AA 787-8’s have two J configurations like the 772. Only the 789 has one configuration in J with the Super Diamnond seats.

Levi

That says alot on what the C-suits at AA think about TLV. Since Boeing paused deliveries on the 787s AA has given extra consideration on routes to allocate the 787s in their possession.

JH

This is great! I just flew on AA TLV-JFK last night. Would love to see them add service from LAX.
