Hong Kong is a fascinating East meets West city and is home to several great kosher restaurants and shuls. Mul Hayam restaurant, located next to the Kehilat Zion shul in the Kowloon section of Hong Kong, is excellent. The JCC located on Hong Kong Island has very good dairy and meat restaurants as well as an awesome Sunday night all you can eat buffet, just don’t forget to bring your passport to get in! Chabad of Lantau also offers meals with delivery options.

We spent a Shabbos with Chabad of Hong Kong Island where the food was excellent and the atmosphere is awesome. People have rave reviews about Shabbos at Chabad and Kehilat Zion in Kowloon as well.

After Shabbos we moved the W in Kowloon, which is one of my favorite SPG hotels in the world. We got an amazing upgrade and there’s a very cool rooftop infinity pool and hot tub. Plus the bellhop picked up our bags from our room and checked them straight home to Cleveland without us ever having to touch them thanks to the airport express station located in the W’s basement.

There are lots of other great hotels where you can spend your points at as well.

Most hotels even give you a free cell phone to use while in Hong Kong.

Americans do not need a visa to travel to Hong Kong or to take the ferry from Hong Kong to nearby Macau.

These fares are not on sale with United miles, but you can pay for the ticket with “hybrid points” if you have AMEX or Chase points and a Business Platinum or Sapphire Reserve card.

ALITALIA'S GLITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m sorry for posting this here but the following is very important to note. It has been a few days since the Alitalia deal has been posted. In the post, you correctly stated that each passenger has 2 checked-in bags. Additionally you presented us with a snapshot from their web-site. We purchased the tickets RT from JFK-TLV. Subsequent to our booking, we were informed by both, an email receipt and a booking agent that we are only entitled to ONE CHECK-IN PIECE!!! No matter what I said on the phone (with many HUCA’S) we were denied our request for the 2 pieces we had purchased. You must be aware of Alitalia’s scheme and be prepared to pay $100 fee (each way) at the airport for the additional bag. This is definitely a DOT worthy issue!!! DAN,WHAT SHOULD WE DO NOW? DISPUTE THE MOST OF THE TICKET?

ashley

I dont understand why the “hybrid pay” is such a good deal when you can get much better than 2 cents on award redemption, unless you have too may amex points.

Dan

@ALITALIA’S GLITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:
Complaint to the DoT with a screenshot of the 2 bags.

@ashley:
2 cents is a good use of any points.

@Dan: I think it is very important to create a post for this. Many people will be in for a surprise at the airport. Besides, as I have learned in the past, an issue that is more widespread will carry more weight with the DoT. Therefore, it is more beneficial if more people fill the DoT complaint form. Thank you!

Dude, LAX to HKG is $440, wide open next year.
