Can this one be used on shabbat? Also any better deals lately on a sodastream or this is the best one?

Dan

The Fizzi is manual, not electric like some of the other machines.

This is the best deal we’ve seen in a while and it’s much better than Amazon’s pricing:

Moe

What is the regular price?

Dan

$90 without the 2 extra bottles and lemon flavor.

Also on sale on Amazon today with one bottle .

Even manual carbonation may be forbidden on Shabbat, as this can be “Makeh B’Patish”. This is a subject of debate among contemporary authorities. Call your local Rabbi.
(For further research see: The 39 Melachos by Rabbi Dovid Ribiat ppg. 1112, 1148, and Makeh b’Patish footnote 104)

Also, , our Rav was concerned about the mechanical buzz it makes when the carbonation goes in.

What’s the communities thoughts on this vs buying bottled soda water? Is it worth it?

Mordy13

I’ve used a Soda Stream for years and enjoy it . This definitely saves money and the environment compared with buying individual seltzer bottles . In addition , for those who like extra strong seltzer this machine give the option to have the seltzer as strong as you want .

#convenience

Depends how quickly you go through seltzer. We haven’t been able to get the carbon refills since covid, and are back to shlepping tons of seltzer from the grocery. We can easily finish a bottle per meal, and we’re home for more meals now, too.

Yoni

Can you be used on Shabbos?

Dan

According to the Star-K and others, yes (for the non-electric machines of course):

As always, AYLOR.

Baltimore

I live in Baltimore and haven’t been able to refill the cartridges since Covid-19… Any other communities having this issue?

Dan

Went to Staples and BBB?
Or http://www.sodasense.com

Baltimore

Staples said they were out multiple times and didn’t know when they’d get more… BBB near us closed, but I think others said they weren’t doing either (Covid-19). Soda stream website charges shipping, not so kdai. I’ll check out that website you listed.

Baltimore

Hmm, sodasense is still more expensive (20.99 vs. 15), so not sure id be willing to pay for the convenience (even with “free shipping”). Best was BBB with $5 off $15 coupon…
