Samsung has just announced the Galaxy S9 and it’s one of the most incremental upgrades from the S8. It looks practically identical, the screen size is the same, the battery is the same, etc.
The camera adds some new features, but there’s no majorly compelling reason to upgrade from an S8 to an S9.

Too many people report that Samsung doesn’t accept the trade in. Doesn’t seem worth the risk
I did a trade-in with a phone I bought on ebay with no issues.
I saw just one person post on DDF incensed that his ebay bought trade-in was rejected. However it said clearly in the listing that he bought that the phone had water damage!

If you try to pass off a bad phone, it will get rejected, simple as that.

You can google “samsung trade-in scam” and see the complaints for yourself, and though Dan’s testimonial is meaningful, I didn’t want to take a $350 risk (which is what the trade-in offer for an S7 was last week).

I did it with a used phone bought on ebay and had no problem.
Samsung isn’t trying to mess over regular people, they’re just rejecting phones that are water damaged, have cracked screens, etc. Sometimes people are too lazy to read that they are buying a water damaged phone on ebay.
I have yet to hear from anyone who sent in a legit undamaged phone with an issue. If I did have an issue I’d write to my state’s attorney general and have no doubt it would be quickly resolved.

Verizon phones are not locked. You can stick in any SIM card.

I would assume it’s considered a cracked screen.
A better understand you have a broken LCD which they’re going to view as a cracked screen which they don’t pay as much for as they view it as a crack screen.

Whats the best value phone to buy off ebay for a trade in?
The s9 was just announced and you can get that on pre order on March 2nd I believe for $100 off, so $620 for the s9, $740 for the s9 plus. That should be unlocked, and it’s brand new phone on pre-order, you should get mid March. So once you’re spending this money, you should probably just spend a little more for the newer generation.
Please show me where the S9 is $620 or the S9+ is $740.

They don’t have the discounted Samsung Unlocked phone, so it definitely won’t be that price.
Ya you’re right it’s not the unlocked one, but still great price. Also they’re offering some great trade in offers. Specifically T-Mobile is offering $360 discount even for the s7. So with that trade in it would cost $360 for a brand new s9 or $480 for s9+. Only works for ppl using T-Mobile though, cuz the refund comes in monthly credits over 24 months.
Samsung will give that same discount for the much cheaper unlocked S9 and you’re not locked to a carrier for 2 years.
Personally I don’t see a reason to spend more for the S9 though, it’s pretty much the S8 with a couple new gimmicks.

How does this compare to the iPhone 8
If I have a refurbished S7 Edge from Verizon (original S7 Edge had a hardware issue that did not allow me to upgrade my OS) with another year of payments to pay off the phone, would you recommend trading in the S7 Edge (has a cracked screen with NO color distortions and NO touch problems) for the S8? Let’s say they give me $100 for the S7 Edge. Will I still have to pay off the S7 Edge at the same time as paying for the S8?

Please help! I bought 2 of these–awaiting shipment next week. I’m on the Freedom (formerly WIND) network in Canada that apparently requires bandwidths of 1700 and 2100 and for LTE, band 66. Samsung’s website for the phone that was on sale does not include band 66 and only includes the 2100 bandwidth. The first lacky I spoke to said it won’t work while other websites that advertise this same Verizon model DO include band 66 and both bandwidths. Nu?
Just found out from a Freedom tekky who knows what she’s talking about. WIND JUST finished upgrading their network to accept not just Band 66 (T-Mobile’s S8 was the only one with this band) but Band 4, which includes ALL US carrier versions of the S8!!

I ordered this phone back in February. It said it would ship the week of March 25. Now they are telling me April 15th. Any suggestions on how to get them to ship it. I have a sense that they are just pushing me out since when I called they suggested that I cancel an reorder (at a higher price) since the phones ordered now ship sooner.
I had the same thing. Just got them—shipped out before Good Friday. Be sure to use a regular wifi, not a shared one such as a hotel or it won’t work. Had to tether my wife’s phone to it to get it to begin the setup process properly.
I just picked up the phone in the States and brought it to Israel. The Pelephone SIM is rejected because it is not Verizon. All your posts said it is unlocked and will work in Israel. Any advice?
