Amazon has received FAA approval to operate a fleet of Prime Air delivery drones.

This comes nearly 7 years after Amazon first announced they wanted to deliver packages via drone. I called it brick and mortar stores’ worst nightmare.

Amazon made their first drone test delivery in 2016 in the UK.

The approval gives Amazon the ability to deliver packages beyond the visual line of sight of the drone operator.

Amazon’s current drone that they have been testing can carry packages up to 5 pounds for 15 miles and make a delivery within half an hour of an order. It could prove to be a game changer in how we shop for goods.

I’m just hoping Amazon doesn’t increase the cost of Prime to pay for it!

I do wonder about the noise pollution generated by drone, are we soon going to hear the buzzing of Amazon drones everywhere we go? And that’s besides the privacy concerns of having Amazon cameras everywhere in the sky…

Where’s our privacy anyway these days? At least let it be beneficial!

line of site will make it hard to use in cities as someone must have eyes on it from take off to landing. so any place that has a lot of high trees or buildings amazon will have issues

JJ

They received approval for “beyond the visual line of sight of the drone operator.”

That means it does not have to be in line of sight…

BigIssy

I stand correct JJ. I apologize. I miss read it.

Thanks Dan!

It’s gotta’ be better than the current damaged boxes we get constantly (and/or stolen packages – I have my theories).

Shmooger

and they will be delivering directly to your dining room table, just like the Manna!

Chaim

I think it’s crazy!

Personally Amazon creeps me out and I always check out every other seller before I buy from Amazon. I don’t think the potential time savings is worth everything else it’s going to come along with.

Me too

“And that’s besides the privacy concerns of having Amazon cameras everywhere in the sky…”

Right. Because we don’t really worry about Amazon cameras and microphones everywhere in our homes. But the sky? Unacceptable! 😉

Yossi

Some of us refuse to allow an always on always online microphone to be plugged into our homes. Yet we can’t opt out of these drones constantly overlying and scanning our backyards.

Oscar

Can i just take a hitch with one and avoid the Fdr traffic nightmere?!!

NW

Probably quicker to go through the fiber optic cables

Just Saying

Yes, if you are a Prime Member weighing under five pounds

Zac

Interesting point about the noise pollution. Been annoying lately with all these outdoor weddings and simchas… there is almost always a drone. You have a chuppah going on and can hear the drone even 200 feet high.

Musks a gadol

Elon musk will eventually develop a soundless drone just to one up amazon as he should!

Herman

Will amazon deliver babies under 5 pounds?
