Anyone know the quality of this item or how it compares to competitive brands?
Midea is a decent quality brand that is one of the biggest appliance manufacturers in the world. They sell under many names, and in Israel many A.C. unit from the company Electra are made by them. They’re mid range quality, not L.G. but also not bottom of the line.
This is the company of the guy who was just kidnapped (and released) recently.

Perhaps I am wrong but in my own experience, I would stay far away from the ACs with hoses. They leak and ruin floor if you’re not super careful. Also they oftentime have to be elevated on so the hose is below the unit. This creates a tipping hazard, since people will put it on a chair. The unit is heavy, so knocking the chair – even slightly-will tip the unit and rip out the hose… Fun stuff.
I’d spend a little more and get the self condensing units that don’t require a hose.

No, but I recall them being in the 3-400 range (i.e., more expensive than non self-condensing).
Do self condensing units not have a hose that goes out the window?
i can’t understand your concern. The hose mentioned appears to be a hot air hose that goes out a window. That makes it hard to understand the raising and tipping over.
What is a self condensing unit? All air conditioners cause condensation. Models like this usually can have the condensate evaporate and go out with the hot air.
Just stay away from A/Cs that have water draining. Self condensing are optimal b/c no elevation needed.
