JJ’s Note: Every year on Chanukah my family plays a fun gift game with dice. To play you need to have all of your family or friends come over for a party and each person brings one wrapped gift $5 or less (if someone wants to bring more than one present that’s an added bonus, especially if it’s just an added gag gift).

A kid will label each present with a sticky note or sticker and number them 1, 2, 3, etc.

Everyone sits in a circle or around a table with all of the presents in the middle and the youngest person starts rolling the dice, they can choose to roll 1, 2, 3 or as many dice as you have, make sure you have enough dice for the number of presents! This set will cover you up to 60 presents, but you’ll want more than that if you have 60 presents as the odds of getting all 6’s is nearly impossible. 

Whatever number you roll you get the corresponding present. It will take time to find the gift, so be sure to assign runners to find the gifts while the next person rolls. Stealing is a big part of the game, if someone else rolls a number someone else already had, they steal their present, everyone just has to have fun with it.

Set a time limit and when the timer goes off whatever presents you have you open. Note that there may be extra presents left over, if someone doesn’t have a present they roll for the closest number to what’s left, otherwise we let kids roll for those.

Opening the presents is done in order with present #1 going first.

It’s great fun seeing Bubby getting a paw patrol action figure while a 2 year old child gets a soap set…

After the game of course, the trading begins!
