Amazon has been offering free shipping with no minimum purchase requirement since November.
Originally they said it was for the holiday season, as did Target and Best Buy, but they have now extended it through 1/31/19.
Stores like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have been battling Amazon back for lost market share. Clearly Amazon isn’t going to make that easy.
The free shipping takes 5-8 business days, compared to 2 day free shipping for Prime members.

Does this also apply to returns? IE- you can receive free return shipping?
I’m curious to know about this too. But in the past, I would just call up about something and then say I also have a few things i want to return and dont get charged.
A little annoyed that I pay for a prime membership and yet shipping will now be free for several months for those that haven’t paid. If they are looking to keep their current customers happy maybe we should get a gift card or some kind of credit toward our next renewal. Would have been nice to have our membership prorated with those several months free factored in. Just saying.

yes and no. I don’t have prime and made several orders with this free shipping the last couple months. Some came fast; some took their time.
Prime still kicks, many other benefits that free shipping alone won’t get you like, free returns, Amazon is only doing it like dan said to keep up with other big names offering free shipping, they won’t lose that market share so fast.
