Please remember that these are not flotation devices meant to protect kids! They are meant to keep them afloat enough to learn water safety and basic swimming skills. And of course, kids should never be left alone in the water without adult supervision not just with other kids. There are too many cases of kids drowning when parents thought that the kids were protected .
Echoing above, please don’t buy these for your children to use in pools! These puddle jumpers actually lead to more pool drownings in toddlers because it gives them a false sense of security in the water and teaches their body the vertical position, which is the drowning position, leading to faster drowning. They also make it take longer for children to learn the proper swim position. The coast guard approved versions of these are meant for open water only, not pools.
Also, the flotation device is in front of the body only. This means children can end up on their backs when the floats pull their torso upward. Too many children don’t have the awareness or muscle tone to keep their heads from falling backward into the water when this happens and the flotation keeps pulling their stomach up and head down. Watch your children carefully and don’t rely on these completely.
