1. Pointing out that the Chinese illegal immigrants go through your garbage and return the cans is not racist, it is a fact of everyday life here in the city pretty much since time immemorial.
2. I’m willing to bet that the majority of DD’ers in NYC would fill out a rebate form much sooner than wait on line to stuff bottles in a broken machine or drive to a beverage center with a full garbage bag of cans/bottles.
And if you do live in NYC and no one goes through your garbage because you happen to live in the fancy part of town where that sometimes does not happen or you take all your cans/bottles in for a refund, good for you! But don’t call racism on the everyday facts of life here in NYC, especially where there was no disparaging or negativity. They are illegal. They make an honest living like that. They go through my garbage too. And I don’t care as they usually don’t leave a mess.

Actually, trespassing to get to your garbage when it’s in your yard or even removing the bottles from your garbage when it’s already at the curb are both illegal in NYC. So there is nothing honest about it.

Maybe a quarter of the cans were dented last time but I don’t care. Saves a huge hassle especially for those of us in NYC without cars. I would hate to complain to get a few bucks back and kill the deal completely. I checked what UPS ground would normally cost for the order of 2 cases I usually purchase and it was over $90. Obviously not what Amazon is paying but still.
