With only El Al continuing to fly nonstop between the US and Israel, Athens has become a hub for both those trying to fly to and from Israel.
Arkia, Blue Bird, Cyprus, El Al, Israir, and Tus have all maintained their numerous nonstop flights between Athens and Tel Aviv. That has caused flights between the US and Athens to fill to capacity, leading United to add several extra flights to Athens. However, hundreds of Jews will be spending Shabbos in Athens while waiting for flights.
El Al hasn’t brought this many passengers to Athens for Shabbos since 2018…
People are indeed stranded across Europe this Shabbos. If you are relying on Chabad, please remember these Dos and Don’ts that I wrote about earlier this year.

Attention! Those who are within walking distance of the Chabad House and would like to attend the Shabbat meals AT the Chabad House should register online ASAP: www.chabad.gr/shabbatform
You can find suggested accommodations near Chabad here: www.chabad.gr/hotels. There are also many other hotels available in the area described there around the Chabad House.
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO ORDER FOOD TO TAKE AWAY:
– Only pick up at the Chabad House in central Athens 10, Aisopou St., area of Psiri, between 10:00-14:00
MENUS:
(one portion = 1 person)
– Friday night menu: Chicken quarter in red sauce, pureed potatoes, green peas, challah roll, disposable plate and cutlery
– Shabbat day menu (can be eaten at room temperature): Shnitzel, potato pashtida (kugel), green beans, challah roll, disposable plate and cutlery
– Note: we do not have available Platot for rental or purchase
– Note: the main dishes are double-wrapped so they can be reheated also in a non-kosher oven.
– Note: as you come to pick up the meals. you will be able to add grape juice or wine or other stuff from the mini-market on the spot.
PRICES
Friday dinner: 18 €
Shabbat lunch: 18 €
Shabbat package (1 dinner + 1 lunch) = 35 euros

Chabad in Athens are unbelievelable, we transited tru Athens and stayed in the hotel at the airport on Tuesday.
We went down in the evening and were amazed to see all this food that Chabad sent down from the kosher restaurant.
