Lots of hotels are getting more expensive and a smaller number will become less expensive. But the worst news is that the top rate will go up from 60K to 70K points per night.

You can book hotel stays for the next year at the old rates until Monday, 1/15. Most hotels will allow you to cancel for free until a couple of days before the stay, so it can be worth reserving stays if you think you might be able to make them work. The new rates go into effect on 1/16.

In Israel, the InterContinental David Tel Aviv will go up from 40K to 50K while the Crowne Plaza Eilat will go down from 25K to 20K points per night.

You can still book all of the hotels at the old rate. It’s not yet known when these rates will go into effect, so you’ll want to take advantage of the lower rates before they go up.

You can still get an annual free night at any IHG hotel, get 10% of redeemed points back, and get Platinum elite status with the Chase IHG card, which is free for the first year and then $49 annually. You can view credit card offers by hovering over the “Credit Cards” tab. You can click on “Top Credit Card Offers“ and then hover over “Card Type” to find card offers from the bank you’re looking for.

Well, I am up, but if I needed to get up early for work , this alert at 12:51 am would be upsetting. I know I can shut off midnight alerts, but I was not aware that you tweet after midnight.
I guess if I was traveling, I would not mind being woken up to a great deal

Thanks for the entertainment

There’s always that one guy who has to complain…

Unsubscribe or get someone who is more tech savvy than u to silent ur phone when u don’t want it to make noise

SHAY PELEG

I am happy he twitted

Sava

There is a DND mode on some phones that would stop all ding-dongs, chirps, bells, and what-not from waking you up during the night but still make your alarm go off.

My phone hasn’t made a noise in 5 years, lol.

Bora Bora quickly went from 50 to 70k in less than 2 years!! Upsetting to say the least. Not like there’s ever availability but still. Morale is at an all time low with ihg :/

Sophia

the cap now is 70k, huge devaluation

Ephraim

I’m glad I booked the Intercontinental in HK for this weekend. Bought the points when they were offering a 100% bonus. This is the second devaluation in as many years. In high season 70K points a night is still a good deal and the free upgrade with my Platinum Ambassador status helps. But it was definitely a better deal at 50K points.

Emkay

My ihg points are expiring on the 18th. Any easy way to keep it from expiring?

@Dan any idea on what date the rates will change? I just booked the Holday Inn Chaiag Mai for five nights so that i’ll still get the redemption for 10,000 per night. the reason i want to know when the devaluation starts, is so that i can book the crown plaza eilat for 20,000 instead of 25,000.

Stephanie

Hey dan, if they show unavailable dates for August in Israel do You think there is a way to get those nights? Is there a chance if I call they could book it?

Morris

From personal experience they cannot, even if you try to exercise the 72-hour Platinum/Spire room guarantee. They may have a 2-3 night minimum, so try searching for multiple nights and see if it shows.

Marland

Dan, would you recommend to save points and use an annual free Chase night now, or better save it (it expires 12/18) and use points? This is in regards to Intercontinental Park Lane in London.

Glenn

some of these hotels have very high vacancy rates – why raise points requirements?
