Here’s Why I’m Skipping This Year’s Daily Getaways; After 12 Years, Is It Now A Bust?

Daily Getaways is back, but I don’t plan on participating based on what I’ve seen so far.

I have been posting about Daily Getaways since 2010, but I can’t recall one as disappointing as this year’s version.

Many of the offers, such as buying points from Hilton, Wyndham, and IHG, can be had for the same price or less directly from them, during sales throughout the year.

The Hyatt points offer is often a highlight of Daily Getaways, with points selling for as little as 0.9 cents each.

At 1pm today, they will be selling the following Hyatt packages, with higher prices than in the past:

  • 30K points for $396 (1.32 cents per point)
  • 50K points for $660 (1.32 cents per point)
  • 80K points for $960 (1.2 cents per point)

And while in the past you had at least a fighting chance of landing a deal, such as 100 packages in this previous version of the deal:

This year’s package has options with as low as just 2 available. That’s not a typo, there’s just 2 for everyone to fight over! Altogether with the 3 options on sale, only 16 Hyatt packages are on sale this year. That’s much lower than in the past.

It’s not a sale, it’s a sweepstakes…

Looking at the calendar, next Friday has a good hotel offer from Accor, but there will be just 17 total packages for sale.

The best offer may be on October 20th, when 1,522 Marriott gift cards are sold for 20% off, though we’ve seen Marriott directly sell their gift cards several times over the past year for 15-20% off, plus those qualify for $300 annual reimbursement with the Marriott Brilliant card.

Daily Getaways from Avis and Hertz would be lucrative given this year’s high car rental prices, but while those have always been offered in the past, there’s no indication that they will be back this year.

Are you trying for any Daily Getaways this year?

Sneaky way to get everyone not to try and get packages so Dan can get…

I’ll stick with the bag O’ crap from Woot

If Daily Getaways happens to read this blog (listed on Google with your catchy title) maybe you will see some Hertz/Avis packages added on?

Marriot has not sold gift cards in a while – so I’ll take this

I think I will also get on board with Marriott. And as discussed elsewhere the IHG points are frequently a good redemption value.
These purchases post as travel right?
