About Silvercar:
Silvercar is a new-age car rental company. Since I first wrote about Silvercar I’ve received lots of rave reviews from readers thanking me for introducing them to Silvercar. Share your experience in the comments!

Silvercar has also added their 24th location in Charlotte/CLT.

They now rent the Audi A4, Q5 SUV, and the A5 Cabriolet convertible. Unfortunately they still don’t offer any options that seat more than 5 passengers.

You can now request Peg Perego booster and convertible car seats at no additional charge!

I rented from them in Miami on a 2 day trip in the summer, and unlike the weather at the time, the car rental was a real treat. I called them upon landing and they picked me up from the terminal so that I was able to avoid taking the train to them. After the rental they dropped me off in my rental car right back to the terminal.

Cars come with built-in GPS, satellite radio, bluetooth, leather seats, and even a free WiFi hotspot. Unlimited miles are included in every rental.

You can rent from Silvercar as long as you are at least 22 years old with no underage fees.

I rented a car from Avis in Miami and got hit with a $17.20 bill for a two 70 cent tolls that I apparently passed on SR112. That’s $1.40 for the tolls and $15.80 for an “eToll Convenience Fee.” Convenient for whom is the question?

Silvercar only passes on the toll itself, no convenience fees!

If you don’t refill the fuel you’ll only be charged a $5 flat rate fee on top of the actual local price of the gas needed to fill up the car. No need to jeopardize missing your flight just to avoid paying $10/gallon for fuel.

Both AMEX and Chase cover the CDW insurance for a Audi A4, A5, or Q5, just select personal coverage when renting and write AMEX, Chase, etc.

You only pay when you pickup the car, nothing is charged beforehand and there are no cancellation fees ever.

Silvercar in Seattle is not allowed to pickup at the airport, so they have you take a shuttle and pick you up from there. The big issue is that I arrived about an hour before they closed and they had one person working who was texting a different set of instructions for pickup than were posted on the app. This created a lot of confusion and ended up with some people requiring him to leave the lot to pick them up at the wrong location.

Just picked up in Seattle a few days, similar situation where they stayed open for me late and I was texting with guy once I landed. Pretty simple to follow instructions and to pick up the car. Did I say I dont have a smartphone so I was just texting with the guy.

Silvercar in San Diego is not allowed to pick up renters at the airport. So you have to ride the rental car shuttle to the rental car center and Silvercar picks you up from the rental car center. On return, silvercar is not allowed to drop you at the airport; you’ll be dropped at the rental car center and ride the shuttle back to the airport. It is a small hassle but I still like driving the car with all the gadgets and virtual cockpit.

Yes I used them the costumer service is not the best they can give attitude. But the price u paying u getting a good car..

Any promo codes for 1 day rentals?

Yehuda

Rented from them at EWR for a day in Jan.

Pros: very nice car, they never charged me for the 1/4 tank of gas that I drove, easy pickup process once you get to the location (agent met us at car).

Cons: long shuttle ride, and I scheduled my return on the late side thinking that I could just show up early. Returned an hour or two early and there was no agent there (they said they scheduled someone to meet me at my drop off time), took a long time to reach them, turns out there’s no drop box for keys so they told me to leave the keys in the car and lock it. Thing is that Audi doesn’t let the car lock with the fob inside. Silvercar then said that if I tried to lock the keys in the trunk it would lock after 5-10 tries. It didn’t, just automatically popped back open each time because the key was inside. Finally they told me to roll the window down a bit, lock the car and throw the keys inside. Quite a long and haphazard process in freezing temps.

I’d use them again but make sure to book return time for when you actually intend on returning.

Seems like the worst part about it is that are not on location and have to use their own pickup system while the other rental cars may be off site as well but they have a more centralized easy to use shuttle system.

Dan, does Amex/Chase not cover the a5?

yf

Anyone know what the deal is for under 22 y.o. ?
Do they rent at all?

kj

signed up and used your referral. Renting next week. Thanks!

Rates seem to be different per location. Manhattan(Columbus circle) for example has a daily rate of $89 if your renting 8/26 to 8/28. With the fb discount it comes out to $214…or am i missing something?

My husband & I rented the A4 from LAX for 4 days. Best experience ever. Customer service was great. Pickup and drop off was pretty easy once you get the app/wifi set up. Can’t wait to do it another time.

FYI Silvercar will no longer honor code VINFINITE for rentals booked after 11/8/2018. For the record, I have a CSR and qualify for the code (I know it worked for any and everyone, though.) I found this out pretty abruptly when I tried to modify a booking today that I originally made on 11/4, but due to glitching in the app I just cancelled the res and wanted to just start a new one, only to discover that the code was invalid. When I called to tell them that I was trying to modify a booking from 11/4 (ie before the 11/8 cutoff) they told me they couldn’t honor it.
Definitely a bit disappointed that they wouldn’t honor it, despite seeing I tried to book on 11/4. I was also disappointed that the code was disabled without any notification from Silvercar or Visa. The rep eventually told me I could use a new code, WEEKLY30, to get the same 30% off, but it’s only for rentals 6+ days (which my upcoming trip happens to be), as opposed to VINFINITE which world for 2+ days. Definitely a game changer for me in terms of using Silverware going forward.
I’m gonna guess that they got rid of the code bc too many non Visa holders were using it, but who really knows.
