UPDATE: Delta has taken this promotion down from their website today! Luckily I saved a copy of it!

Delta Promotion Part 1

Delta Promotion Part 2

Delta Promotion Part 3

Nobody knows what is going on right now with the promotion but its possible that they will change the terms of it. However anyone that already registered under the old terms should be OK. For anyone that wants to contact Delta about the promotion it says to refer Delta representatives to promotion 97062124.
Answers to people’s questions from the comments:
General: This promotion is valid for transfers into Delta until 12/31. There are many partners besides for Starwood that qualify for the promo, read the fine print on the bottom of the offer for the whole listing.

You can transfer a maximum of 27,000 Starpoints into Delta per day, so you will want to just do one 20,000 Starpoint transfer per today in order to maximize both the Starwood 25% and Delta 150% bonus.

The 150% bonus points will likely not post to your Delta account until sometime after the promotion end date of 12/31/08! So you will first get the 25,000 Skymiles for the 20,000 Starpoint transfer, and then after the Delta promotion ends you will get the 150% bonus of 37,500 Skymiles.

Here is Delta’s Mileage chart for all award redemptions.

Q: How many miles does Delta charge to go to Israel?
A: Delta is the only airline that has 3-tier mileage pricing. When few seats on the plane are sold there is low availability, normally when the plane is filling up there is medium availability, and there is always high availability.

Delta coach to Israel, each way:
Low=40,000
Medium=65,000
High=95,000

Delta BusinessElite to Israel, each way:
Low=60,000
Medium=115,000
High=185,000

Q: Is it worth changing all starwood points to delta miles???
A: Good question! Starwood points are extremely valuable, but getting over 3 Delta miles for each Starpoint is quite tempting! Ultimately it boils down to how you personally value your Starpoints and Skymiles, and that will be different for everyone.

Q: Can i transfer the points now without booking a ticket?
A: Of course! The Delta Skymiles will be waiting for you when you are ready!

Q: Can I transfer my Northwest miles to Delta now that they are merged, or does that happen automatically? If I can, I wonder if I can get this bonus?
A: They can’t be transferred, it will be merged automatically, most likely at some point over the next year.

Q: Do you know if you can then transfer Delta miles to any other airline?
A: I don’t know of any method of transferring out Delta miles-you’ll have to use them for flights on Delta or their partners!

Q: Do delta skymiles expire if i transfer to them?
A: Yes, you must have earning or spending activity in the account every 2 years to keep them from expiring.

Q: Do you actually have to use the skymiles before December 31, or just transfer them by then?
A: Transfer by then, the miles are then valid forever as long as you have activity in your Skymiles account every 2 years.

Q: If I open a starwoods card now, will I get the 10k bonus points in time to use for this promotion?
A: Under normal conditions you should be able to apply today, use the card once, and get the points before 12/31. However sometimes AMEX doesn’t give the points on the first statement, in which case you would have to call them up and try to convince them to push the points over before waiting for the next statement.

Q: How do i transfer now after i signed up with delta???
A: Go to spg.com, login to your Starpoints account and go to redeem Starpoints.

Q: Will I be able to get Delta skymiles and then transfer them to Continental miles?
A: No, but you can use Delta miles to travel on Continental, or any other Delta partner airline.

Q: What about if i only have 15,000 starwood points? would that be worth transferring?
A: You would not get the 25% Starwood bonus, so you would get a total of 37,500 Skymiles. By transferring just 5,000 more Starpoints you get 25,000 more Skymiles! Go apply for another Starwood card today-or go buy money from the mint!

Q: I clicked on the linky and I filled in my name, e-mail and skymiles number in the register box. now it says, “You have successfully registered”. Now what?

A: Now you’re registered! All you have to do now is transfer your Starpoints!

Q: If don’t have any plans to travel in the near future (maybe Florida), is it still worth it to transfer my starwood points to skymiles & let it sit there till I want to travel?

A: Do the math and figure out if you’ll get greater value out of 20,000 Starwood or 62,500 Delta and that will be the answer!

Q: If I remember correctly, didn’t you once post that you can fly to Israel with about 55k starwood points? If so, how?
A: You’re looking for S.B.S.’s famous “Using Starwood Starpoints To Get To Israel PDF Guide”

Q: So i just registered for the promotion, do i need to wait , or can i just go into spg.com and transfer now?
A: Transfer away!

Q: Will the recent merger of NWA/Delta affect Skymiles in any way? Will I regret switching the points to miles?
A: The Skymiles program will have to be realigned with the Worldperks program, but I wouldn’t expect any massive changes.

Delta is currently running a promotion for a 150% base miles bonus when you transfer 10,000+ partner program points into Skymiles.

20,000 Starwood points thus earns the usual 25,000 Skymiles, plus 37,500 Skymiles for the 150% bonus miles, leaving you with 62,500 Skymiles for you 20,000 Starpoints!  There is no limit on the transfer bonus, so you will earn 62,500 Skymiles for each 20,000 Starpoint incremental transfer!

Mendel

can i fly to Israel with Delta? would 62500 mils be enough for a ticket?

sabra46

can i then transfer these miles back to starwoods or do i have to use them as delta miles?

Charles Light

Fyi- its 105k Delta SkyMiles to fly Direct to Israel.
40k Starpoints= 125,000 SkyMiles with this.
So for 40k Starpoints, you can fly direct to Israel and have 20,000 SkyMiles left over!!!!
Awesome!

DL

If you can find availability at their “low” price.

Dan/Ctownbochur

Delta coach to Israel, each way:

yaacov

is it worth changing all starwood points to delta miles???

Anonymous

can i transfer the points now without booking a ticket? also would a ticket bought thru this be very limited?

chaim

the only problem is now delta has very few cheap seats – hyper inflation with their miles.

David

I’m very excited about this deal – here’s another goodie – you can transfer AMEX member rewards points for the same bonus (minus the 20k-25k starwoods bonus). It’s still a great deal. Some questions –
(1) Can I transfer my Northwest miles to Delta now that they are merged, or does that happen automatically? If I can, I wonder if I can get this bonus
(2) Delta’s having a separate promotion on buying miles – https://www.delta.com/skymiles/buy_transfer/buy_miles/buy_miles_lto/index.jsp. Up to 50k per year, 30% bonus. If you can combine this bonus, it would be HUGE.
(3) Do you know if you can then transfer Delta miles to any other airline?

Noah

do delta skymiles expire if i switch them?

also, how many miles for a domestic ticket?

mordy

@Dan,
1. Do you actually have to use the skymiles before December 31, or just transfer them by then?
2. If I open a starwoods card now, will I get the 10k bonus points in time to use for this promotion?

me

When is this promotion over?

K

i just got a ticket last week with delta to israel from jfk for 60,000 Total miles

Hg

how do i transfer now after i signed up with delta???

pinny

i think their pricing is seasonal. in mar-apr a stopover in low seaon is 105 k

Hannah G.

I wouldn’t use my Starwood points for this offer. it’s a great offer to convert hotel points such as marriott, Hilton,Priority Club, or American Express points. Starwood points go a much further way. Check the offer for other partners. Please post this change on your website.

Stern

sabra46 poses a good question, can they then be transfered back to starwood (and then back to delta…..)

A PoshitaYid

From reading threads on the topic it seems like the bonus points will not hit the account until 8-10 weeks after the year end.

I wasn’t able to find traveling dates to Israel for less then 130,000 miles and even those had long stop overs. Please post any better expreiences with using Delta miles to Israel.

Dovy

Will I be able to get Delta skymiles and then transfer them to Continental miles?

hey

can i transfer northwest milege to delta with the same benefit

jack

will the delta points expire?

gs

what about if i only have $15,000 starwood points? would that be worth transferring?

Menachem

Can someone help me out
I have 20.000 miles in my Amex Buisness can i transfer it ??

jerseyguy

I clicked on the linky and I filled in my name, e-mail and skymiles number in the register box. now it says, “You have successfully registered”. Now what?

yoko

If don’t have any plans to travel in the near future (maybe Florida), is it still worth it to transfer my starwood points to skymiles & let it sit there till I want to travel?

Also, if I remember correctly, didn’t you once post that you can fly to Israel with about 55k starwood points? If so, how?

Thanks

as

would be awesome except delta and delta skymiles suck.

danFan

hey dan!
mazal tov on your wedding…
Question for you… so i just registered for the promotion, do i need to wait , or can i just go into spg.com and transfer now?

Moshe

Dan –

Will the recent merger of NWA/Delta affect Skymiles in any way? Will I regret switching the points to miles?

daniel n

Is this worth it?
or better to leave them as spg points?

A PoshitaYid

If you do Nights and Flights you can get 5 nights at a catagory 4 hotel plus 125,000 Delta miles for 70,000 starwood points!!!! Can’t beat that!!!

DL

If you read the fine print, Membership Rewards is not listed as one of the eligible partners.

danFan

dan, i truly am a fan, and you truly are the man!
thanks a million for redoing the post!
it is comprehensive and amazing!
🙂
i would give you a thousand $20 tudor hotel rooms if i had any more, bro
🙂
mazal tov again on your wedding, it was great seeing you at your kiddush

HU??

i went to spg logged on. went to redeem starpoinys, but then it doesnt mention anything about this. how do i know if im doing it right??? thanks

Chem

Which is better, this deal with Delta or transferring SPG points into LANPASS kms?

Mend

I spoke to a Delta representative in skymiles…and after having her look at the deal,
She checked with her supervisor and because you get bonus points with Starwood, we are not eligible for the %150 bonus. Now she said you can transfer 10,000 then you wouldnt get the SPG bonus but you would get the delta bonus.

Not sure if shes right but thats what she claims…

The Delta representative in skymiles…Also said that there must be some limit…
or someone could transfer in 200,000 miles and get a %150 bonus on that…

oh yea

I dont get it. Why does it seem like I started a new Delta account. Cant I just add the points to my existing account??

john

hey mend, thanks a lot for messing it up for all of us

Dan/Ctownbochur

@Mend:
Typcial clueless underpaid and undertrained call center rep spewing BS…

This deal has specific terms and conditions that are very clear and can’t be changed based on what some call center agent thinks makes sense.

It says specifically that the bonus works with Starwood and Starwood’s bonus has zero to do with Delta-Delta couldnt care less that Starwood tacks on an extra 25% to 20,000 Starpoint transfers. And it’s clear from the terms that there is no limit to Delta’s bonus.

Mend

Thats what I figured

zee

I have been on the phone with Delta for over an hour, they cant seem to find the promotion. They are only offering the 5000 bonus points per 20,000 transfered.

How can I cash in on this deal?

Yaakov

Can I transfer miles from my wife’s account into my account and get 20000 miles all together and transfer to delta.
I have accounts with Air France, Conti, Swiss, AA do I need to open a new delta account?

Dan/Ctownbochur

@zee:
The promotion is linked to and explained in the post above.

@Yaakov:
Yes, Starwood points can be transferred into other accounts at the same address. You do need a Delta account.

Yaakov

Can I open a Delta account without flying with then?
If yes can you show me the link?
Thank

wi

Hey Chossen
i have 100,000 points with the amex platunim can i stil take advantage of this offer

Levidess

I have a 5 night Cat 4 reward booked (40,000)so I changed it the Nights and Flights deal for an additional 30,000 points. (30,000 SPG points=125,000 Delta SkyMiles)

chulent

dan did you do it?

abe

Does this work with amex membership rewards?

Chaimletz

This seems to have expired – am I too late?

?

i registered for this promo when it was still active do you think they will honer it if i transfer my starpoints now?
(please respond from past experiences)

Me

seems like they cancelled it? If you were already registered you think it will still work?

yudi

dan if i do the night and flight option from starwood will get this bonus on the 50000 miles?

deltamakemmevomit

seriously ? you’d fly Delta ?

K

Dan,
good job saving those print screens. I think i am gonna have to use them as proof once they dont post my 125,000 points on delta.

Devorie

Where does it say that you can only transfer 20,000 points per day?
On Starwood’s website it says

“Delta Airlines has a maximum transfer amount per transaction of 32,000 (27,000 from member plus 5,000 transfer bonus) due to its 32,000 transfer limit.”

I’m pretty sure that does not mean per day. Does this means that my points won’t transfer or will they transfer but I will only get the bonus on the first transfer?

loyal reader

I registered but am not sure if I want to transfer points yet.
big question…I have been accumulating continental elite miles…now, if there is no available space on continental airlines to tlv when I want to go, will they allow me to use my continental points, in the low season, to fly delta? (delta ‘charges’ more points during their low season,but with this special offer delta will end up costing less points)delta flies from jfk and continental only from ewr..so, the route is not the same (I have been told by a phone rep that if continental flies the route u can not transfer to a partner)
oy…so funcusing!

Question

If we already registered and assuming we want Delta miles, should we keep turning spg points to delta miles ???

Just don’t ewant them to tell me afterwards that it’s no good…

Please advise

Abe

just spoke to delta reps. they said the promotion is still on just issues with web site and should be working tomorrow after the weekend

haim

i tried registering by calling but they are all sending me in circles do you have any reccomendations?

HOW?

If you buy delta points you get the same 150% deal. Is taht worth it?

jerseyguy

do not call. deals get squashed when people call.

Rochel

Can you still register

as

Deal has been canceled. I spoke to two separate supervisors at delta and they both claim that even those that registered will not get any bonus through this promotion. So transfer points at your own risk!

Shlomo

Dan, I transferred 10,000 starwoods but only got point for point even though I registered for the promotion. Has anyone actually gotten the bonus points?

Mendy

Dan,

I didnt register up yet, how do I go about registering for this promo. I see that you saved those print screens, but that doesnt let me register. Please let me know what I can do now in order to register.

Thanks.

Dan/Ctownbochur

@Shlomo:
You won’t see them until 8-10 weeks after 12/31/08.

@Mendy:
Registration is closed, sorry!

as

Did anyone get confimation email saying that they are registered? I havent gotten anything. I wish I had printed the confimation page…

Mordy

@Dan:
I think an important question……If I registered with Delta for the promotion, could someone else transfer their starwood points into my delta account and get the 150% bonus?

Dovid

What does it mean that Amex membership rewards are excluded?
If I did register in time, will I be able to transfer points that I only earned after registration?

Dan/Ctownbochur

@as:
Unfortunately Delta does not send out confirmations that you are registered.

@Mordy:
No, Starwood points can only be transferred to mileage accounts with a matching name!

@Dovid:
That means you can’t transfer Amex membership rewards points to Delta and get the promo bonus.
You can transfer other points, like Starwood, Hilton, or Diners Club, etc.

You should be able to transfer away if you are registered, but I would wait until the dust settles on this one…

Moshe G.

Dear Dan,
how can I prove that I enrolled? I printed out the page that reads “THANK YOU, you’ve successfully registered – now you can start earning a mileage bonus” but it doesn’t say anywhere my skymiles number on that page & delta says they don’t see on my skymiles account that I registered

Dan/Ctownbochur

@Moshe G.:
As far as I understand there’s unfortunately no way for Delta reps to see whether you registered for any of their promotions.
If anyone knows of a way of confirming registration please post it!

Anonymous

what does “registered” mean? I have a delta skymiles account that I opened a year ago, does that meanim registered or does it mean I had to have transferred my starwood points before the day it effectivly ended? Please respond Dan > Thank you

Zack

What does American Express membership mean? Is it miles from a Delta Amex card or a transfer of Amex membership reward points?

c

i think we are screwed – in 2 months from now delta will say they never promised such a thing, even though i have a copy of the text in my email.
Its going to be a big fight.

milechazzer

Q: Is it worth changing all starwood points to delta miles???
A: Good question! Starwood points are extremely valuable, but getting over 3 Delta miles for each Starpoint is quite tempting! Ultimately it boils down to how you personally value your Starpoints and Skymiles, and that will be different for everyone.

If Delta miles can be sold for at least 1 cent and you are effectively getting 3.125 points for each Starwood point that you transfer, wouldn’t it clearly be worthwhile to transfer all of your Starwood points and then sell the Delta miles if you don’t intend to use them? Can you ever get more than 3.125 cents of value for a Starwood point?

zeit a mench

can i stil do it or its to late?

how to do it juste like a regular transfer are there is somthing special to do with a code

anonymous

dan, can i trust delta to give me the miles when a rep wont confirm im enrolled and i have no proof other than my thank you page?

Joseph

i called DELTA, they say that i am not enrolled, when in fact i did enroll.
Should i transfer???

Moshe G.

It’s official delta has it now on their website, that they are gonna honor the promotion to those who enrolled before it expired for more info and to see it on delta’s website go to delta.com/maxmiles

sam

TRYING DELTA.COM/MAXMILES AND NOT GETTING PAGE. ANY IDEAS?

Shmuel

Dan I’ve been waiting to transfer till the dust settles. dou think it is safe yet?

Hannah G.

I registered but have no proof. delta keeps saying they have no record. They keep giving me the run around. Should I nevertheless transfer miles?

Anon

Just transferred 20k points to miles. I hope they honor this promotion.

Suggestions for when/if they put up a fight?

Anthony

Miles posted today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was legit after all.

Thanks Delta.

jnj

Mine posted too! I only wish I had moved more Starwood points, but I hedged my bets and only moved 20,000 because I wasn’t sure this offer would work. Dan’s analysis on this promotion was right on!

Todd

I am a Delta Skymiles member already as well as an spg member. Is it possible to sign up for this deal at this late date?

Thanks!

Steve

Anyone else have starpoints to sell?

Jeff

I know this has nothing to do with this forum but i need some advice on a trip I am planning in May to Italy. Unfortunately although I have many Starpoints it is pretty much worthless in Italy and most hotels are catagory 6 & 7. Does anyone know of decent affordable places to stay in Venice and other places? Dan, have you been to Italy?

yudi

@jeff
I could buy some starpoints and you can use that cash for the trip and hotels! let me know if you’re interested.

Jeff:

Check out this page from Chabad of Venice’s website.

Also, you should plan to spend Shabbat in Venice, its a beautiful experience.

Venice

Why don’t you contact Rami Banin, the shliach in Venice. He’s a really friendly guy and should be able to find you the best rates there. Go to jewishvenice.com
Getting back to the post, can someone tell me if it’s too late to trade in 20000 starpoints for 62000 Delta miles???

I got the 62,000 miles for 20,000 starwood points. Pleasantly surprised it came through. Now I regret not doing 40,000 starwood points. oh well.
I guess too good to be true is NOT ALWAYS to good to be true.
Dan, thanks for the post!
