I’ve written many times in the past about saving on fuel surcharges by transferring BA Avios to Iberia Avios in order to book Iberia flights.

The need to do that transfer has finally come to an end, as you can now use BA Avios to book Iberia flights on BA.com with the same relatively low fuel surcharges as Iberia Avios charges.

JFK to Madrid in premium for 35K Avios+$82:

JFK to Madrid in business for 50K Avios+$113.30:

JFK to Tel Aviv in business for 81,250 Avios+$170.70:

Alas, BA flights still have absurd fuel surcharges.

You can search for nonstop award availability between airports like Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, JFK, or San Francisco and Madrid by using the AA.com nonstop award calendar.

The Chase British Airways card is still offering 100,000 Avios for spending $5,000 in 3 months if you signup by 6/30. That’s enough for a round-trip business class flight to Europe on Iberia with the newly lowered fuel surcharges!

Dan, I’ve been having trouble finding AA award flights with Avios lately, did AA stop releasing award space to BA?

Benny

Same here, can’t seem to find AA reward space with BA avios…

big bad moish

This is a very welcome change.
Although, it’s important to note that Iberia release more reward seats for booking via Iberia.com than on BA.com so you’ll often only find availability at Iberia
