If your The Platinum Card® from American Express renewed between 4/1/20-7/31/20, you are now eligible for up to $200 back in statement credits for spending on travel purchased directly from AMEX Travel. Eligible spending includes airfare, hotels, flight+hotel packages, car rentals, and tours paid with your Platinum Consumer card from 8/1/20 through 12/31/21.

If you card renews between August 2020-March 2021 then your $200 credit will be available on the first day of your renewal month through 12/31/21.

When your card is eligible you’ll see the tracker when you login to your AMEX account where you can see how much credit you have received:

Thanks to free change policies, you can cancel your flight and get JetBlue or Alaska travel credit that’s valid for 1 year for anyone or United credit that’s valid for 2 years for anyone, so this credit should be really easy to earn! Those expiration dates go into effect from the time that you cancel your flight.

It’s been a good week for AMEX Platinum Consumer cardholders, earlier this week most cards were also targeted for $100 off $100 at Dell.

What will you do with your travel credit?

Please clarify
My Platinum Consumer cars actually renews in August
I only used $50 of the $200 delta credit earlier this year. Is this $200 in addition ?

jack

where exactly when you login is this tracker?

Yandmk

On the Home page, on the right side. Under the MR points summary. (on top of “useful links”)

alkap

how does that work if you first apply for the card now

joel

it seems its only valid on the first day of the month your card renews

Moshe

I heard from two united reps that tickets booked by a third party like amex travel are only eligible for the FTC and not for ETC.

I hope it will still be possible to receive a retention offer… or this offer will kill any retention offer

Bill S

Where do you see this credit? My card renewed in May and I’m not seeing this offer.

joel

WE’RE ADDING SOMETHING EXTRA

Beginning on the first day of your upcoming Card anniversary month, book through American Express Travel to receive up to $200 in statement credits for eligible travel purchases, made with your eligible Platinum Card by 12/31/2021.

joel

i booked through amex travel and tried cancelling by united, however come up message that cant be changed since booked through 3rd party. however it was in first 24 hours which may have been a factor

Cat kid

So I’ll get 400 total? 200 for 2020 and 200 for 2021

joel

I don’t see the link, and my renewal was in June. I called Amex and was told that I wasn’t eligible for that promo, and the email I received in early may with subject “Important news about your Platinum Card” mentioned only the streaming and wireless credits. Seems not everyone got the $200, which is poor form from Amex.

adam

Same here

Evan

Renewal date July 7 and no link either

Once again Amex leaves the gold card in the dark..
I have no clue why I still have it, in my opinion Amex should shut the gold card down.
Or revamp the card and actually make it worthwhile for $250.

CtownBin

Its true, the Gold card hasn’t gotten anything. I think the reason is that it’s main perks are bonus categories on groceries and restaurants, which aren’t really affected by the pandemic. The Platinum on the other hand has many travel related perks which people can’t use now, so these extras are designed to replace those and entice people to keep the card. But I agree that the Platinum is actually BETTER now, and so its annoying for those of us who have a Gold and happened to be in-between platinums when this all hit.

Alex

Mine renewed in May, and Amex chat rep told me today that I wasn’t targeted for it

Anti

I recently canceled mine. Think it’s worth reopening?

shiframeir

yeah this doesnt show on either of our cards that renewed in may and june.

ChiliPalmer

My renewal was May 28. No progress indicator on my account.

How are you all planning to use this credit? I don’t see myself traveling much for the near future.
