Fiji Airlines rarely releases business class space between the US and Fiji, but they have opened the floodgates today!
You can book Fiji business class between the US and the South Pacific for 55K miles each way with Alaska or 80K miles each way with American.
Alaska allows for a free stopover of any length in Fiji, while America only allows connections up to 24 hours before you need to book a separate connecting ticket.
That means for just 55K miles you can fly from LA to Sydney with a stopover in Fiji in business class. You can book your own way to Melbourne or New Zealand and then book a return flight on miles from there.
American and Alaska don’t charge any fees for cancelling an award ticket. You can also hold an award with American.

If you have the miles, book them a seat. You don’t want to have to hold a kid for that many hours…
I beg to differ. Obviously it depends how old the lap child is but there’s no way mine would just sit quietly in their own seat so I had to hold them anyway. When we flew to London 2 weeks ago on Virgin Atlantic in Upper Class there was an empty seat next to mine so when they finally fell asleep I just lay them down on my bed and they let me use the empty one next to mine.

Only Marriott transfers to Alaska and American, and it’s not instant.

From there you can play with multi city to add on other cities and stopovers.
How do you book LAX>NAN>SYD RT with AA? Can it be done online?
Yes, but there would have to be award space with short connections available. If there isn’t, you would need to book 2 separate tickets, LAX-NAN and NAN-SYD.

Is it worth spending a week in Fiji or only as a gateway to SYD/AKL?
Does Alaska allow the flight to originate from NYC and then go to LAX and NAD? I priced it up and i saw the option but it gave 3 stopovers all over LAX, SFO and another airport or two.
Keep in mind you need to be vaccinated to visit Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.
Maybe that is why there is plenty of open spaces.

Not sure where you got the most, not sure if that is true or but either way a sizable are not.
Could be Australia opened up but most of the other places did not and it looks like you may not be able to fly Fiji airways unless you are vaccinated.
The good thing is American miles tickets are cancelable so you can book now and see if things change by the time you are going.

Seems like most places, need at least 2 doses.
It is only my guess & I am not looking to start a whole vaccine debate as it makes me very sad to see the vitriol on both sides, but I doubt that 90% of your followers are fully vaccinated or even have one dose.

I found perfect availability round trip LAX to SYD in november for dates that work perfectly with my schedule, was about to pull the trigger and transfer 125 amex to CX (thanks to the %20 transfer bonus). But then I found out you need to be fully vaxxed to fly fiji airways regardless of the entry requirements (or lack of) for your final destination country. This is the first airline I’ve heard of that has such a rule, ridiculous. Maybe I should book it and worse comes to worse if they haven’t got rid of the rule by the time i’m scheduled to fly I can just pay $120 to cancel and redeposit.

Does travel need to originate in LAX/SFO or can you originate elsewhere in the U.S for and connect in LAX/SFO for the same miles?
AA isn’t bringing up any Fiji Air flights in any class on any dates listed next May from LAX-SYD. Hard to believe everything is gone, but is that why?
