A trick I wanted to share with the dansdeals audience:

Many times you can save HUGE BUCKS on travel, using this trick, especially when you are buying a last minute flight.

Say, tomorrow (7/29) you have to fly from Chicago to NYC. The cheapest nonstop (sidestep.com) is $280 with delta. What you do now is select a one way flight from chicago, experimenting with several cities nearby (to NYC) as the destination city. Then flip through the cheap flights THAT HAVE stop-overs, and simply look for one that has a stopover in New York City! In this instance, I found a US Airways flight that goes to buffalo with a stopover in New York Laguardia, for $168. Simply get off the plane when the plane lands in New York Laguardia! (Granted this trick doesn’t work when you have luggage). This is $112 of savings, on a one way trip to New York.

For the way back, simply do the reverse (find a flight from NYC, with the destination city being a city near Chicago). Even if it doesn’t work for the way back (for example it comes out cheaper by simply flying from New York to Chicago), then you just do the above-mentioned itinerary for the flight to New York, and for the way back, make a regular 1 way ticket from NYC to Chicago (and you still saved $112). On the other hand, if you do find another one of those types of stopovers for the way back, at a cheap price, you will save a wad of cash on the way back as well.

Sounds good, eh?!

@b:
Except it is illegal ticketing, called hidden-city ticketing, and if the airline finds out they can cancel your ticket and your mileage account

Perfect

Super deal just in time for a pittsburgh chassuna coming up. Dan you are friends with Yitzy Shollar right? He just got engaged to a pittsburgh girl. So Ill be needing tickets 🙂

You’re right. It may land you 20 years behind bars. Do you really think they track these things? Our family is an avid user of this trick. Our mileage is safe and sound.

ollie

so you must be the guys that the airlines keep paging over the loudspeaker to let you know you’re missing your flight… now it makes sense… 🙂

@b:
Thanks for the tip.
just by the way Dan posted about this almost two years ago.
if you look on the right side by the “Ctownbochur.com Knowledgebase” under Low-Cost Carrier Info there’s a post called “LCC Hidden-City Ticketing”
