On a cool autumn day in 1978, seven young men ended years of rejection, institutionalization and uncertainty by rejoining their community of birth. A home for men with developmental disabilities had been built, and these seven “pioneers” were its first residents. This was the beginning of Makor Disability Services/ Women’s League Community Residences.

Today, with more than 32 residential settings, Medicaid Service Coordination, Community Habilitation, CBR Supported Employment, Jumpstart Early Intervention programs and our most innovative program to date, the Makor College Experience at Yeshiva University, Makor touches the lives of countless children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

On January 3rd through 4th, the organization will launch a 36-hour matching campaign to raise $1,250,000. This will ensure that every family can continue to receive unparalleled support with Makor.

“In the short time that we’ve been with Makor, we’ve been very impressed with what we’ve seen. The teamwork and concern is outstanding, and everything is handled in a professional and caring way. We are confident that our daughter is in good hands,” say Nissan and Kayla Rosenthal, parents of one of Makor’s residents.

Twelve-year-old Nechama Leah Davis sent this note with a modest donation to Makor: “It’s hard to believe that Makor is an agency. There’s such a homey environment and the staff are so caring. The kids are so happy and Makor is the agency that makes all these kids happy.”

My two cents!
Makor (also known as Woman’s League) has been around for decades. Unlike other organizations Makor spent all their time and effort on caring for their special kids. They did not feel the need to fund raise and make their name well known. everybody in the field knew of and respected the Woman’s League name and reputation!
Today, with Government cutbacks fundraising is necessary to maintain their standard of care. Please respect their integrity and donate to this old organization.

I worked for them for several years. The people I help take care of taught me many wonderful things. I take what I gained from my time working in Makor whereever I go. I have learned to appreciate the little things. I have learned to have a lot more patience. If not for the people I helped take care of in Makor I would be a different person.
Makor and their staff do many wonderful things for the people they take care of.
