The Torah says
“You may plant your land for 6 years and gather its crops. But during the 7th year, you must leave it alone and withdraw from it…” (Exodus 23:10)
This is a national Jewish Mitzvah that parallels keeping Shabbos which is 2 psukim later
Six days thou shalt do thy work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest (Exodus 23:12)
We keep Shabbat an Shmitta to testify that God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th.
The Jewish people were kicked out of Israel since the did NOT keep Shmitta. God said “You didn’t keep the Shmitta for 70 cycles, I will exile you for 70 years”. That is what happened until the story of Purim. The Jews then accepted ALL the Torah and were saved from a Holocaust. They were then able to go back to Israel and start keeping the Shmitta again.
So… we see the KEY to saving us from disaster and bring the redemption, is to help KEEP the Shmitta!
In addition, G-d promises to Bless those who help keep Shmitta!
