That is definitely a better way to do it. These plugs don’t support higher amperage devices, and they are not really grounded – they rely on the receptacle being connected to a metal stud. If you have wood studs (which most houses that still have 2-prong outlets are likely to have), the grounding is extremely weak.
Safety first. Do it yourself if you can or pay an electrician to come and change all those 2-prong outlets into fully grounded 3-prong ones. The safety is well worth the expenditure.
