Actually… its smarted to do that with an item that is “out of stock” (not a price mistake) I’ve done this before, adding add-on items to a price mistake, they just cancel the whole order.
If you buy something that is just out of stock, when checking out you can select “ship items as they become available” and once your add-on item ships, you can cancel the back-ordered item with the reason “won’t arrive on time”

I wonder if the “out of stock” message depends on buyer location — each Amazon warehouse has its own supply, and they know where you live. But what if you order it shipped to your cousin in Cleveland?
