Uber is a pretty awesome app. I’ve done day trips to cities like Chicago and NYC without having to rent a car thanks to UberX rides that are cheaper than a taxi and far more convenient. And while people wait for an hour in the taxi line I breeze right into a waiting car. I even earn Starpoints for using Uber on top of 3 points per dollar for charging Uber rides to my Everyday card.

Will they charge the regular black car rate beyond half an hour? The page doesn’t seem to specify.

I don’t believe that they’ll have anything in NYC, since it requires the vehicle to be registered as a TL&C vehicle, and that car isn’t out on the market, so it’s hard to believe that they got that set up. It’s just a marketing gimmick.

Does it work in Crown Heights or only Manhattan?
@Eitan: Just took one in Chicago and asked the driver this question. He said that they won’t charge for the ride at all, but it’s the driver’s discretion as to how long he wants to take you, after a half hour he can pull over and have you call a different Uber to finish your trip.
The drivers are all BMW Marketing Reps, mine was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the car was extremely luxurious.

@dan relating to your other points in this post, while i’m sure you have many uber credits, I find it to be the most expensive option (sometimes even more than a taxi) in NYC. I prefer Via or Gett if I dont want to share the ride.
just got it on my second try requesting it in LA, the driver took me in LA traffic to the airport, 45 min+, no charge! bloody cool car!
