It wasn’t long ago that tickets between the US and Brazil were $1,000. In the interim Brazil’s economy came off the rails, the dollar soared against the real, and flight bargains abound.

From Sao Paulo’s dining scene, the stunning city of Rio, the breathtaking Iguazu Falls, the remote Amazon (yes there’s a even a Chabad house in Manaus!), to islands like Fernando de Noronha and Florianopolis, it’s an amazing country to explore.

Note that Americans and Canadians must obtain a visa prior to travel to Brazil. For Americans that means paying the $160 reciprocity fee that we charge Brazilians to visit the US.

Travel is valid on select dates in June and July.  Use Google Flights to help find valid dates.

Dan I called us airways in Jan uary after I applied for the 50k offer to waive the first year fee they told on the phone that they would, but I never got it waived, do you think there is a possibility that American Airlines would do something? Or any other options?

brazilian

If anyone does go, I’d recommend not walking in the street with a yarmulke or a good looking baseball cap (which might get taken from your head). Just wear the dirtiest looking baseball cap you have.
Also, be very familiar with the places that you go, because crime (including violent crime) is rampant in many areas.

Dan

@oscar:
An annual fee has nothing to do with either airline, call the bank.

@brazilian:
Why?

I spent a year in Brazil and just spent 2 weeks there with my family and encountered zero antisemitism with my yarmulkah out.
It’s not Paris…

Crime happens in some areas, just don’t walk alone at night.

David

Agree with Dan – they have a tremendous amount of respect for religious jews, especially the large group of evangelicals. Many of them are taxi drivers.

RebYid

@brazilian:

“It’s not Paris…”

And elsewhere on this site people are posting that there are no problems even in Paris…

Dan

@Reb Yid:
I wore a baseball cap in Paris. I don’t recall having to do that anywhere else, but after an incident there it seemed like a good idea.

Brasileiro

Dan,
Muito obrigado. Esse deal funciona pro mes de outubro? Depois dos chagim?

João

Alguma boa oferta do Brasil pra Israel bein hazmanim? Tem que comecar um forum portugues.

Dan
João

Tenho milhas com UA, mais nao vale a pena gastar elas de GRU-TLV. Obrigado por todos seus posts.

Dan

@João:
Porque nao?
Pode fazer “stopover” em EUA ou Europa…

João

Eu nao moro no Brasil.

Tempting

@dan just curious what’s the season there now

Leonardo PA

@Tempting:
We are on winter now. Besides our extreme south, where can be very cold (yet, no snow), the rest of the country gets around 5~15ºC (south and centre) or 20~30ºC (north and northeast).

5ºC = 41ºF
15ºC = 59ºF
20ºC = 68ºF
30ºC = 86ºF

Leonardo PA

Sorry, south and center goes around 5~25ºC
25ºC = 77ºF

@João
Eu concordo com você %100.
Inclusive eu estou gurdando muita grana com este último amex offer da sam’s club, e o pessoal ainda reclama to título…..
Por favor gente……..!

@Dan você é o máximo.

brazilian

@Dan: I spent 20+ yrs there and encountered plenty of antisemitism.

@David: yes, the evangelicals are very friendly and respectful to orthodox jews. But they are a minority.

Enjoy but be careful. One bad experience can ruin the trip.

Mendy

Igauzu too?

DaninMCI

Don’t forget the visa requirements for US citizens going to Brazil.

How are you seeing tickets for under $600? I used the same dates, same airports, Priceline and Google flights and seeing nothing less than $842…$250 more than what’s written here. Miami to Rio is $874 on Google flights, and $886 on Priceline?

My wife is from Brazil, we would really go Jun 14-21 if the prices listed existed somewhere.
