Clear, the “ezpass” for airport security, is closing down effective immediately.

Many readers have gotten free memberships from them via various offers in the past.  If you’ve paid for a membership be sure to open a dispute with your credit card asap!

I personally never signed up for Clear as it was never offered in my home airport, but I’d love to hear from others that did have Clear memberships if it actually saved you any time at the airport.

SPG Cleared

I applied for the clear card and have gotten it, I fly on an average of 6 times a month and have still not used the clear card even once since getting it in December. It is just too uncommon in many airports and even in nyc airports, it is only available by few terminals and airlines. Even with all that taken away, there is only lines 65 percent of the time

Running Late

I had the 3 year Clear Card. It was much better than the Premier Lane at SFO for getting to and past Security. Thanks for the recommendation about opening a complaint with the credit card company.

I have used Clear since last October, mostly out of Atlanta. It has been invaluable to me as I’ve never spent more than 5 minutes getting through security – in Atlanta that’s a no small feat. I’m very sorry to see them go.

i got it last year when you posted a free year and i never got to use it once bec. of how rarely its found

Never really understood the concept.
I guess that only frequent travelers would value the service. And those who travel frequently have “their” airline and are elite status which entitles them to that special line line anyway.?

Toovy

Just filed the dispute…Thanks

It DID by the wat save time at Newark Terminal B-1

There is ASO another compaqny FLO that may replace the service

I would have missed my my ELAL flight out of JFK eve Pesach if not for Clear!

got to JFK very late and some others were turned away as they were told The secuirity (TSA) line is over 1/2 hr long and no way will you make the flight.

I told my CSR, Security should take only 2 mins at most, she started in as any Israeli would, and shut up in a Flash once I showed her my Clear card and said ‘Its your lucky day’.

sure enough I went downstairs and the line was a mile long , walked passed everyone with the employees working the line yelling at Me to go to teh end of teh Line. I ignored them and continued to where teh Clear people were hanging out , showed my card and literally was on the other side of TSA in less then 5 mins. As once you were processed by their machine , they took you to the xray line and slipped you in as the next to go thru in front of anyone else already lined up for the machine.

2nd time was flying back from SYD @ SFO I booked a connecting flight an hour before the direct flight (SFO-JFK) the Security area for going thru was packed and I knew Iw asnt gonna make teh flight, walked down to the next area and sure enough Clear was there. Was thru TSA in 3 mins and made my flight.

The Bad part was twice at JFK it was closed since it was the weekend but since I was flying UA it wasnt bad having to wait. and most Airports I use didnt have it or it was in a Term I wasnt using.

all in all it was worth having it for those 2 time staht it Saved me from missing the Flight. Besides it was a gift from SPG, and thought Id get it renewed for another yr via 1 of teh other Programs I also have Top status with

It was worth every cent. Without a question.

My account(a prize from some american express sweepstakes) expired the same day that I received the notice they were ceasing operations.

In a year of flying on average 3 times a month, I was able to use it twice (both at JFK). It was either unavailable or closed at all other times. I would not have renewed my membership.

To Clear’s credit, one of the two times it was available, I was traveling with a large group to Israel and I was able to clear security at JFK twice (I ran out to meet someone)a half hour before the group made it through the main line.
