Citibank Executive American AAdvantage Card: Earn 100K Miles Plus $200 Cash Back!

Update: Please see FAQ in the comments here.

My wife and I both got “application pending” (hmm…maybe because we got lifetime AAdvantage Platinum status thanks to the grand old days of 3BM Citi AA applications and that we both have several active AA cards) but I called 800-695-5171 and they were able to approve both of us on the spot and confirm the 100K signup offer for spending $10,000 in 3 months!
They asked for my app ID which I didn’t have but they were able to lookup our application via our SSN.

C/P $450 Annual fee which of not canceled within the first 30 days it won’t be refunded. If you cancel within the first 30 days you probably won’t get the 100k posted… So basically it’s $450 (minus $200 statement credit if you spend $10,000 in the first 90 days) + a credit hard pull..
You’d have to think twice before going for it

On the other hand, AA miles are not so easy to get and can be extremely valuable when using it to fly business with Elal (פוי..)

I don’t have the Citi Executive card with the $450 annual fee, but readers write that it is considered a different product from the regular Citi American Airlines cards.

So you may be able to apply for the Citi Executive card even if you have a Citi American Airlines credit card. Remember to wait ~10 days between Citi applications, and don’t apply for more than 2 personal cards in a 65 day period.

    FAQ:

    1. Although the terms state that it’s for first-time AA cardholders I doubt that will hold true. They always state that ;)

    2. The $450 fee will post right away so only apply for the offer if you’re willing to pay it.

    3. The 100K will post on the statement following completion of the $10K spend.

    4. In general Citi no longer allows 2/3/4BMs. If you apply for a card you need to wait 8 days before you can apply for another Citi card.

    5. AA doesn’t fly to Israel. You can fly on USAirways via PHL or on El Al from EWR, JFK, LAX, or YYZ for 90K coach or 135K business.
You can also fly AA to Europe and then El Al from Europe to Israel for 80K between 10/15 and 05/15.

    6. Beware that the AA chart is extremely ripe for a devaluation.

Figure I’d have to add another 20,000-40,000 MR or SPG points for a business class ticket to Israel, and I got myself a Business Class ticket for the cost of an cheap economy ticket to Israel.

Spending $10,000 on some business expenses is not a problem, so deal made sense (without having to worry about Citi classifying CVS purchases of VR cards as cash advances).

@help: You can fly to Israel for 90K round trip points on El Al with no fuel surcharges. You can also fly from Philadelphia on US Air for 90K. You can also stop in Europe but don’t go British Air as they have sky high fuel surcharges. I believe business on El Al / US Air is 135K round trip. So with the 110K you get from this offer (10k for spending and 100K bonus you’ll have enough for coach to Israel.

I received my first bill for the card and received the 100K bonus and the $200 statement credit (it’s for any spending – we didn’t spend any money with American Air. So $329 ($450 fee – $200 statement credit) and 2 trips to CVS (buying $5000 in vanilla reloads – the fee for the reloads was $79 in total) we got 100K AA miles. Not bad.

    Hi,
I spent the money required at cvs ;) with vanilla reload of course, paid abck the credit card my statement closed the 19th and i got the points on AA 2 days later, now they just put on my CC the annual fee for the next billing, by then my card will be closed, so yes it is possible to get the points and not being charged for the annual fee.
    Thank you Dan!!!

My card is closed by now and didn’t have to pay the annual fee, and not only that I am also getting back a check for the 200$ statement. So I made 110k Plus 200$. I don’t think you can get any better than that.
Before closing the card they offered me a few options on order to keep te card but just denied all of them cause of headache otherwise if you are on top of it, it may be worth it, one of the offers was that for the next 16 statements they would give me 50$ credit for spending over 750$ plus a bonus of 750miles on top of the one you allready earn for the spending.

I just got the card and spent the required 10K. I would like to cancel but unfortunately I received this letter from Citi today that said my miles won’t post for 2-3 statements. Here’s what it said:
    ****
We are in the process of linking your Citi Executive® / AAdvantage® World Elite™ MasterCard® account to
your American Airlines AAdvantage® Number so we can post American Airlines AAdvantage® miles on your
    American Airlines AAdvantage® account.
    Some important information:
Please allow 2 billing periods for your AAdvantage® miles to begin posting to your AAdvantage®
    account.
Your AAdvantage® miles for three will be combined, and the total will appear on your statement within
    the 2 billing periods.
Future monthly AAdvantage® miles will appear on the statement on which they are earned.
    ****
I do want the 100K miles and I don’t want to pay the annual card fee. I will if I have to but I thought I could cancel and still get the miles. My 1st statement should arrive any day now. Thoughts? Gut Moed.

I applied for the card and don’t mind spending $250 for 100,000 Miles!!! I’m concerned about the miles expiring after I cancel. Here is what I found in the Terms and Conditions on the Credit Card Offer page:

“For benefit to apply, the Citi® / AAdvantage® account must be open 7 days prior to air travel AND, reservation must include the primary cardmember’s American Airlines AAdvantage® number 7 days prior to air travel. If your credit card account is closed for any reason, these benefits will be cancelled.”

    Please help us all understand.

    Thanks,
    Dan

I applied got approved, spent $10,0000, got my first statement with 110,000 miles posted and $200 credit, cancelled the card, they refunded the $450 annual fee and got to keep the $200.

I just got approved for the AA 100K after $10K in spending, plus the $200 credit!

Had to wait a few minutes on hold, then they asked me to wait a few more minutes, and then it was approved! I have been denied in the recent past for having too many credit pulls & too many Citibank cards, but they didn’t seem to care this time.

So… it is still working :-)

Now I have to hope Staples restocks the $200 Visa Gift Cards, or find Vanilla Rewards.
