Please note that orbitz operates on Central time. If you book your ticket at 12:05 AM on 8/7/13 this actually registers as 11:05 pm central time on 8/6 and you will only have until 8/7 at 10pm central time to cancel. Whereas if you wait until 1:05 am EST on 8/7/13 then you will have until 10pm central time on 8/8/13.
I learned this lesson the hard way.

@TDweck: Yes, if there are available upgrades. If you do a dummy booking on united.com and check the “MileagePlus Upgrade Award” box at the bottom and the system lets you upgrade, it means upgrades are available.

Really? I just checked and for november 8, the zman (sunset as per myzmanim.com) was at 5:36 pm or so… In june the have very late zmanim as a typical june day as abt 18 hrs of sunlight…

Alaska is amazing. Great fishing (Salmon and Halibut), and if you like nature you can see bears, whales, go on dog sleigh rides, northern lights in the winter etc. Really a beautiful place to visit.
