Sarah

All fruit smoothies are not kosher. They add juices like pomegranate and grape that don’t have a hechsher

Jonathan

Jamba Juice has no hashgacha. So only moder orthos can eat it

yankel

Hey Dan, dunno if you there. There’s the MacLaren techno xt on amazon for $188. Is that a good price? Maybe worth posting it. Thanks! Is there a better place to contact you on such a thing?

yoel

Is jamba juice kosher?

chazu

Jamba juice is kosher?

Dan

Guys, these types of questions should be directed towards your local orthodox rabbi.

All I will say is that everyone will agree that you can order their fresh squeezed orange juice as it comes from a dedicated machine that only makes fresh squeezed OJ.

You can request that any fresh fruit drink or smoothie be made exclusively with that fresh squeezed OJ and ice as the only fillers, with no other fruit juices or yogurts.

e

Yes, but when you post something like this, some people will assume that it is kosher.

Perhaps you should initially post a disclaimer saying that ask your LOR about what is permissible there. Plus if they clean the OJ machine in hot water with other stuff there could be issues.

L

Hot water is not kosher.

Dan

How is this different than when I post a Starbucks deal?

Obviously people need to ask their rabbi what to do in situations of eating in an uncertified establishment.

Anonymous

@Dan: The reason why it is different than a starbucks deal is because when I saw the jamba juice deal…the first thing I though of…was is it kosher…?

In terms of starbucks…it is known what people can or cant get there…however with jamba juice…most people assume that it is all not kosher…

However, I appreciate you posting it becuase I am someone who would look into it and not post silly comments like…only modern orthodox people can eat there….ha! where are from buddy…a whole??? very closed minded comment if I say so myself
As any type of Jew it is our responsibility to check the hashgacha of all foods….everyone from “modern orthodox” to “yeshivish” has this responsibility

L

I asked the manager at a nearby Jamba Juice and they confirmed that they do in fact clean the orange juice press with hot water and pig fat. Just to be safe, I asked my local orthodox rabbi and he confirmed that pig fat is kosher for modern orthodox Jews only.

m

@L: is that all pig fat, or only modern pig fat

Modern Orthodox Jew

Thank you so much for informing me that I can drink Jamba juice. IT is unfortunate that someone so much “better” than me because they live a more “religious” life style can not sure in this delicious drink! I truly feel sorry for you Jonathan!

Jonathan, please be advised it is people like you that make me want to be more modern orthodox and stay far away from your kind of people, ‘the great ones’.

Thanks for the deal Dan!

re: post 14 and Jonathan in post 2 – thanks for the chilul hashem… its much more important to be careful about orange juice then hurting millions of fellow Jews… keep up the good work… i am sure the Sinas Chinam will hasten the coming of the messiach.
on a separate note its pretty sad that in this type of forum this kind of stuff goes on.. enjoy Dan’s great service and keep the other stuff off the site… all you are doing is ruining it for everyone else… imagine what a good laugh the goyim would have if they read this šŸ™

Great find, Dan!

Aaron

Dan – First of all i’d like to say thank you for the service you provide to all of your readers, I truly appreciate it.

I may be mistaken, but I believe this blog is geared more towards a Jewish (perhaps more Orthodox Jewish) demographic. At least that is the feeling I get from regularly checking your posts. That said, (and I do say this with all do respect) by posting a Jamba Juice coupon, you are sharing that with your (orthodox?) Jewish demographic, and putting your stamp of approval on it. (Yes, your stamp goes on it whether you want it to or not.) At the very least, you should have a disclaimer stating that the establishment is not certified kosher and one should consult with whomever they want to consult with before patronizing that establishment. That’s just my 2 cents. Take it for what it’s worth. Thanks again for your hard work!

For the other commenters – Maybe it’s not a matter of who’s a better person, but a question of – is a person who follows the written and oral laws of our Torah (Ie – keeps kosher) allowed to eat/drink there?
The fact is that the place does not have a kosher certification and is not kosher in any way. If you choose to eat there, or at McDonalds for that matter, or wherever, should not be anyone’s concern, especially here, and does not make you a better or worse person than anyone else!

I think the only point that was trying to be made here was why is this non kosher establishment being advertised on a seemingly “kosher” blog.

Dan

I’ve asked people in kashrus and received answers regarding places like Jamba Juice and Starbucks.

Suffice it to say that I feel comfortable to post deals from them and there’s obviously no comparison that can be made to McDonalds.

I don’t believe that anyone would assume that Starbucks or Jamba Juice is a certified kosher store that they can just order whatever they want from there without asking a competent rabbi or kashrus autohrity to look into it, just because they find a deal on the internet for it.

Shmerel

Hi,

Saw this comment on an article about smoothies:

“I created an account just to write this comment. I worked at Jamba Juice (awhile back) and they scoop powder ā€˜boostsā€™ into every single smoothie. You order, and they ask which boost you want.
None of the boosts are kosher and in fact, several have ground shellfish as the first ingredient. The yogurts and juices are also not certified kosher.
Since itā€™s a loose powder and the boost station is next to the blenders, Iā€™d stay far away.
If you feel the need to blend plain, frozen fruits with water (and itā€™s not a smoothie in that case, itā€™s really not-good tasting) the benefit is not worth the serious risk of consuming treif.”

That said, some say that there are individual Jamba stores with a local hechsher, so one should check that out.

Like Dan said, each person should ask their LOR.

PS Agree with others that the comment about modern orthodox was way out of line and just inaccurate since the MO I know don’t eat out w/o checking the hechsher!

Concerned Customer

I was wondering, what do you think the base of the Apple N Greens smoothie is? I was told it was kosher. I don’t eat dairy, so I got a dairy free smoothie. I am now worried that I consumed treif. You mentioned that they always ask you what shot you want in your drink. They did not ask me that, so I do not think they included one.
