We rented from Avis – a full size car (and got upgraded to premium) for $100! for the entire weekend. (used AWD X192286 and a coupon)
We stayed at the luxor, and it was great accommodations.
We drove to LA on Friday, and returned to Vegas on Sunday night. Stayed at the terrible Circus hotel ,,, not recommended.
We used Dansdeals review of Vegas restaurants and had a great meal at Pannini cafe. We even took a pie to go for our flight back to ny.

Do I have to worry about losing the discount if I decide to stay at a different hotel than the one I reserved through Expedia? If not, do i cancel my reservation or no-show?

fan of dan

hey anyone have any extra hotel rooms in vegas this thurs night?

thanks!

rashi613

Stayed at the NY, NY Hotel, which was quite nice. The only annoying problem that we had was that the restaurants in Vegas all close really early. We would start calling for delivery at about 8 PM and most places were already closed or about to close. For people who didn’t go there yet, be advised about this. Otherwise, it was an amazing trip and I can’t wait to go to vegas again (esp. for free).

mimi

my husband flew toronto- new york round trip for $89 taxes included. he did not use the hotel room that was included. it was really worth it. thanks

I had tickets on American this Sunday but couldn’t go because I forgot I had a H’ Sefer Torah in the my Shtible in MB. I checked in online anyways just for the fun of it and noticed the flight was leaving 3 hours late! So I called AA to say there is no point me going now bc I’m missing ‘my show’ so they offered me a full refund of appx $287CAN to which I happily accepted:)

We are leaving for our freebi vegas trip on evening of 25th Dec. We will be there till the following Thursday. We have both never been and we have no idea where we are going, what we are doing or where there is to eat. I have read dans trip notes, but I was wondering if anyone else has any tips on what me and my husband can do to enhance our love holiday! Its been two years since our honeymoon! Thanks for the tip about the restaurants and cafes shutting at 8ish. We land late at night and we figured we would go out to eat, so now I will go prepared. Please post any tips you think we may find useful, how you got around, what you saw, etc etc! Thanks all!

Dan

@Debby Y:
There are kosher restaurants open till 10, but delivery typically ends at 8.

Hey all. My wife and I flew JetBlue direct from JFK to McCarran on the morning of 12/12 and took the red-eye back on the 14th/15th. We stayed at the Golden Nugget, which is a pretty nice hotel off the strip, right off of Fremont Street.
Our first night there, we ate at Schwarma Vegas (approx. 25 minute drive from the strip). I give it a 6.5/10 because the food was nothing to write home about, and the place felt really small and cramped, but the prices were pretty decent for an out-of-town kosher restaurant.
We ate a few times for breakfast at the Coffee Bean inside the Venetian, which has a kosher certification on everything in the store. I give it an 8/10 because of the pure convenience of having a place to get a quick kosher bite to eat without driving for half an hour, and the amazing white chocolate mocha blended something-or-other drink.
Our 2nd night there, we ate at Big Dragon Chinese (20-25 minute drive from the strip) where, promptly upon walking in, we were asked “DansDeals”? The food was very interesting, but good. The prices were very reasonable (3-course dinner for $19 to $21), and the ambiance was really nice. I give it an 8.5/10 because the owner was super-nice, and I hope his restaurant turns out to be a success,(will definitely go back there on a return trip to vegas).
The 3rd and final day we were there, we headed to Adar Kosher Pizza Restaurant (5 minute drive from the major hotels on the strip). The food was surprisingly tasty, (the french fries were amazing), the prices could’ve been better, but it’s in a pretty convenient location so I give it a 7.5/10.
For our last meal in Vegas, before our flight home, we headed to Sababa (also about 20-25 minutes from the strip). It’s a middle-eastern fast-food style restaurant, but the decor was really nice, the food was near excellent, and the prices were perfect. I give it a 9/10 (not a perfect 10/10 because of the commute).

Throughout the course of our trip, we saw a few must-see’s and some not-so-hot spots. You cannot leave Vegas without seeing the Bellagio Fountains at least once. The gondola ride at the Venetian was relaxing, but I know of a few better ways to spend $32, than a 10 minute boat ride for 2. We did not get to see “The Sirens of T.I.”, the free pirate show with the sinking pirate ship, at Treasure Island, as it was closed when we were there.
There is a reality show on the History Channel, called Pawn Stars, which is based on a family run pawn shop in Vegas, called Gold and Silver Pawn. For those of you, like me, who are fans of the show, you must stop in at the shop. When we stopped by, they were actually filming, and wouldn’t let us in for about 20 minutes, but we actually watched the main characters being filmed through the door.
We went to check out a few of the major hotels/casinos including Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Treasure Island, The Venetian/Palazzo, The Bellagio, Circus Circus. The one show we saw was Mystere, a Cirque du Soleil show which was pretty amazing, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny on tickets. We got discounted show tickets at a Tix4Tonight location, (they sell discounted show tickets for that night) and we still paid $70 each for half-decent seats.

To sum it all up, my wife and I had a great first trip to Vegas. I must give thanks to Dan (who definitely gets a 10.5/10 by the way) for keeping us informed, and without whom this trip would not have been possible for so cheap. If you’re ever in New York and need a place to stay or eat or even just to chill if you’re stuck here on a layover, shoot me an email.

We stayed at the Andaz Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan last night… for free! I made a flight from boston to nyc (missed it) and we drove to the city last night for a free hotel stay. came down this morning… “sir, your total charge is… zero dollars. thanks for staying with us”.

thanks dan! šŸ™‚

Devorah

We flew from DEN-LAS and stayed at the Signature @ MGM which was a really nice hotel. It’s connected to the MGM via a walkway and down the street from the Planet Hollywood. We were with our kids so appreciated not staying in a casino hotel. I tried to $20 tip at check-in hoping to get upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite vs a studio but she said she couldn’t do that šŸ™ but she did give us a room on the 36th floor with a balcony. It rained 2 out of the 3 days we were there (our luck in middle of the desert) but we managed to find indoor things to do. We ate at Sababa, Panini Cafe and Shwarma Vegas – the first 2 nearly free compliments of our numerous Amex cards, and enjoyed the food at all 3. It was our first time in Vegas and we had a great time! Total cost $16 plus the $20 resort fee times 3 nights. Thanx Dan!
