Purchase IHG Points For .575 Cents Each

IHG normally sells points directly for 1.15 cents each. And you can transfer points from Chase, but that’s a criminal use of Chase points. Of course there’s a hack to buy their points at .7 cents each but with the current sale you can buy them directly for less than that without jumping through hoops. And that hack requires that you have points to start with.

You can get the lowest rate with this promotion by buying between 50K-60K points and your point purchase will be doubled.  So 50K points will actually become 100K points for $575.  Or 60K points will become 120K points for $690.

This promotion expires on 09/22.

IHG points never expire.

You can purchase 120K points per member per year, so you can get up to 240K points with this promotion in 2 transactions of 60K each.  You can also buy up to 120K points as a gift for the same member that already purchased, so you can get up to 480K points per member from this promotion in total.

IHG runs PointBreaks which allows you to book rooms at rotating hotels for just 5,000 points per night.   That’s just $28.75 for a room if you buy points at .575 cents each. Those hotels rotate every couple of months and a new list will be out very shortly.

There are also good values to be had at high-end properties.  The highest tier is 50K points.
-An overwater bungalow in Bora Bora can go for as much as $1,000 with tax but costs just 50K points. That’s just $287.50 at .575 cents per point.
-Intercontinental has a heavy presence in French Polynesia with properties on Tahiti and Moorea islands for just 40K points ($230 at .575).

-Bargains can be had for high end Intercontinental hotels in NYC, Hong Kong, Paris, London, etc. thanks to the 50K redemption level.

There are several IHG hotels in Israel:
Holiday Inn Ashkelon: 10K ($57.50 with this promo)
Crowne Plaza Jerusalem: 20K ($115)
Crowne Plaza Dead Sea: 30K ($172.50)
Crowne Plaza Eilat: 30K ($172.50)
Crowne Plaza Haifa: 30K ($172.50)
Crowne Plaza Tel Aviv Beach: 30K ($172.50)
Hotel Indigo Tel Aviv Diamond District: 30K ($172.50)
Crowne Plaza Tel Aviv City Center: 30K ($172.50)
InterContinental David Tel Aviv: 40K ($230)

Are you a buyer at this price?

@Joel:
It’s in the post.

Martin

Dan are you buying for Dovid!!!

Dave

Dan

@Martin:

@Dave:
Looks like the Crowne Plaza Miami Beach is a deal at 45K points ($258.75)

rachel

hi, until when is this offer? tx

Mark

Do I need an IHG account to check award availability?

Dan

@rachel:
09/22.

@Mark:
No. Just select reward nights as the rate type.

MaaYanky

Do IHG points transfer to another point type that would also be worth anything?

Yitz

Anything in israel?

Rachel

Can u transfer these points to anything else?

dans fan

might be worth mentioning that the points breaks can be pulled at any time and the tc can change

David1

I would take advantage of this offer if this currency is not likely to experience devaluation in the near future.. @dan do you expect inflation for this currency in the next year or two?

Steve

interesting … will investigate for Paris…

Dan

@MaaYanky:
No.

@Yitz:
Added to post.

@dans fan:
The only guarantee in life are death and taxes.

@David1:
There’s just no way to know, sorry.

@Steve:
Should be a good deal there for the Intercontinental.

Bailbino

IHG website crashed lol

Dave

Took once a last minute stay at crowne plaza haifa, paid 150 at the door, so might be better off paying than points.

Dan

@Dave:
Yup, Haifa and Indigo TLV look the weakest, though that may vary based on the season.

Many are great bargains though. Goes without saying to check your dates for both paid rates and point rates as always.

ranhan429

Best cc to buy this with (I.e. classified as category spend?)

Dan

@ranhan429:
It’s a points.com sale, so no category bonuses.

Leon

Do I need to be a previous member?

Sam

Do these points ever expire?

JSqaured

Why dont I see anything other than Crowne Plaza Jerusalem: in Israel?

Dan

@Leon:
No, you can register now.

@Sam:
Read the post!

@JSqaured:
You need to type in the city name.

Ya'alili DDF

No HT here? Posted it yesterday evening on DDF! – http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=33632.msg919663#msg919663.

Dan

@Ya’alili DDF:
You really should post deals like this in its own thread…

af

do the points expire?

Ya'alili DDF

@Dan:

Will take that point for next time, i just really don’t link starting new threads if something similar exist.

Dan

@af:
Please tell me these people are trolling me…

@Ya’alili DDF:
Master threads are for discussion of programs, not for limited time promotions.

Chapshnell

Not buying, those pacific islands are very hard to get to mileage wise in business & if im staying in regular cities I rather stay at a nice SPG or Park Hyatt/Andaz hotel.

Dan

@Chapshnell:
Not hard to get to with AA or Delta miles.

And not much SPG and no Hyatt in Israel unfortunately.

ABC

@JSqaured
Use awardmapper.com

bill

hi dan do u know if u get the 10 percent rebate with the ihg chase card on pointsbreaks hotels that were booked for 5000 points?? if yes who do i speak to chase or ihg?

yitz

how do these values measure up against using spg in israel??

Dan

@bill:
How long ago was your stay?

@yitz:
There is only 1 SPG left in Israel-Sheraton TLV for 12K Starpoints.

Yaks

My own 2 cents: They haven’t run a sale like this on their points in the last few years…. There hasn’t been significant devaluation for the past few years on this program. Lots of other chains hAd significant devaluations in the last few years. I think they may be at the brink of a significant devaluation and hence the sale… (With hilton the value of their points went down 40~50% overnight).

douglas

is it possible to get a suite in the crowne p in israel with ihg points if yes how much? (my friends a chosson wanna hook him up)

bill

stay was about a month ago

Dan

@Yaks:
They run sales every year with daily getaway.
I don’t think that’s a valid connection. I mean devals are a part of life, but as for when they’ll come next, who knows.

@bill:
Give it another month.

Anonymous

@Joel: never!!!

af

😉

joseph

IHG, offers an exchange of points to EL AL matmid. Is it worth it?

Shimmy

Is it known when the points break list is supposed to come out? Or do they just surprise everyone?

Chapshnell

@dan how? Tried aa & nothing showing.. Is this a putpac sitch?

Lubaby

@joseph:
Negative. $690 worth of IHG would only get you $480 worth of Matmid.

MAN

hi Dan,

you wrote above you can purchase 60k twice a year(which in this case equals 240k).
but the fine print says under the purchase this:

Price includes all applicable fees. Purchased Points are not refundable and are applicable toward all IHG® Rewards Club awards. Members may purchase a maximum of 60,000 points per calendar year and receive as a gift a maximum of 60,000 points per year. Please allow 24-48 hours for points to post to appear in the recipient’s account. All other IHG® Rewards Club Terms and Conditions apply.

do you think i can do it twice? wanna do Bora Bora 🙂

Mike

Thanks Dan. Do the purchased points post immediately for use? I may have a use for this Saturday where this makes sense but don’t want to get caught waiting for processing.

Moishe

Hi
I dont see when r the points expire .. Anyone???

Alex

It was mentioned that taxes are one of two guarantees in life but are there any additional taxes/fees when booking hotels using ihg points?

Dan

@MAN:
I’m seeing “Members may purchase a maximum of 120,000 points per calendar year and receive as a gift a maximum of 120,000 points per calendar year.”

@Mike:
You’ll get the points before then.

@Moishe:
Read the post, they don’t!

@Alex:
No taxes are owed on an award stay.

naf

Dan, any value in purchasing with ink card as it will post as ihg, to receive extra 1% back on hotel?

MAN

Dan,

Wierdest thing!
when i checked the other day it said what i wrote(i copied and pasted that).
when i checked an hour ago it said what you wrote.

bought them!…going to book Bora Bora after i get the IHG card next CC go around 🙂

whats the best way to go by air from NYC (usually fly with United/Star Alliance)(have MR,SPG,UR)?

Dan

@naf:
It posts as a points.com purchase=no bonus.

@MAN:
Congrats!
How many did you buy in total?

There are no Star Alliance flights to PPT from the US.

AA can book you on Air Tahiti Nui and Delta can book you on Air France or Air Tahiti Nui.

Bora Bora

Dan, Bora Bora seems to have very few available dates. Is this because they’re booked that solid this far in advance?

Gabbai

The Holiday Inn in Ashkelon, Israel is just about the worst dilapidated HI I have ever seen with a wholly unresponsive “Take it or leave it” attitude staff. Questionable as to whether it is worth even 10,000 points / $57.50 a night. I stayed there a couple of years ago for 5,000/night on a Points Break deal and came away wondering why anyone would want to stay there. Sometimes bad is just not worth anything.

120k brings me to 200k

I’m not comfortable speculating and buying any more. This should get us 4 or 5 nights at a really nice Intercontinental. Or a lot more at a Points Break deal hotel. But we’re inclined towards the former. Besides Bora bora, where else do you recommend?

MikeyB

Im a newbie to this but, IHG is selling points 1000- for $13.50. IS that good ?

MAN

as much as you can!
dont tell my wife lol
