2 months ago, JetBlue announced the end of service to Baltimore, Kansas City, 5 routes from Fort Lauderdale, 8 routes from Los Angeles, and several other cuts.

That came after a costly failed merger effort with Spirit, the end of the Northeast Alliance with American, and corporate activist/raider Carl Icahn gaining board seats at JetBlue.

Via @xJonNYC, more cuts are coming as the airline tries to survive financial headwinds:

  • LaGuardia to/from Atlanta, Fort Myers, Nassau, New Orleans, Tampa will be eliminated effective 10/27.
  • LaGuardia to/from Boston, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando will see reduced service effective 10/27.
  • Newark to/from Los Angeles will be eliminated effective 10/27.
  • Orlando to/from Los Angeles will be eliminated effective 10/27.
  • Service to Puerto Vallarta will end effective 6/12
  • Boston to/from London/LGW will go from year-round service to being suspended for the winter season effective 9/30
  • JFK to/from London/LGW will go from year-round service to being suspended for the winter season effective 10/27
  • JFK to/from Paris will go from year-round twice daily service to once daily service for the winter season effective 10/27

There are additions as well:

  • JetBlue will add service between JFK and S. Vincent and Bonaire this fall.
  • JFK to/from Vancouver will get daily MINT service year-round effective 7/21.
  • JFK to/from San Juan will get daily MINT service year-round effective 7/22.
  • Fort Lauderdale to/from Phoenix will get daily MINT service for the winter season effective 10/25.
  • Boston to/from Phoenix will get twice daily MINT service for the winter season effective 10/27.
  • JFK to/from Phoenix will get daily MINT service for the winter season effective 10/27.
  • Fort Lauderdale to/from Las Vegas will get twice daily MINT service for the winter season effective 10/27.
  • San Juan will see new nonstop service starting this fall between San Juan and Cancun, Medellin, Providence, Santiago/STI, S. Croix, and Westchester County.

When they start reducing or eliminating traditional routes such as NYC to FLL or NAS, it sounds like the beginning of the end.

Not really. If they were to cut that from JFK than maybe correct. They don’t actually have lots of slots in LGA and they have to return many of the ones they have to American. So non hub flying from LGA is mostly being cut.

They recently cut lots of flights out of EWR because of the Spirit merger. Now they are cutting LGA as well. They are basically going backwards not forward.

AA doesn’t go very much to FLL. Their hub is Miami. Will some other airline pick up the LGA to FLL route?

JB

i usually fly jetblue out of LGA..this is terrible for new yorkers

Chaim

Sounds like they’re trying to configure routes that are profitable, but cutting the transatlantic service is a big step.

HPN win for me

Hard to believe this is necessary. I’ve been flying to Florida a lot lately to and from JFK and LGA and the flights and the airports are jammed to the point that there’s no room in the overhead for all of the bags

Billybob

Like to see more flights to/from PBIA .

HW

I heard that they will soon have a direct flight to Gaza……………………

EWRLAX is very disappointing. Route needs some healthy competition. Alaska is usually expensive and Spirit is Spirit.

Has the route not been profitable?
