Is there a way to use this promotion with a different credit card, e.g. use one Amex point and a visa/mc for the remainder?
Reload your gift card balance with the card of your choice, then use this offer with the balance.
Amazon doesn’t seem to allow using GC balance at the same time as using (even one) Amex points.
Try adding a gift card of any size at checkout.
You can try to buy an amazon gc with the other card and then apply it forward the order, charging the rest to the amex

Buy an Amazon gift card at Amazon with the card of your choice, or through the recommended way at an office supply store with the Chase Ink Cash card, and add it to your account.
Set your Amex MR earning card as your default payment method. (I don’t think it’s a must, but it should help.)
When you check out, it should initially show that you’re paying with the Amex card, but it’s first using the gift card balance on the account.
At that point, “click on “Apply rewards points” and enter $0.01 to use 1 point to save 1 cent.”
It should now have both, give you 20% off, and have the gift card balance as the payment method. (See screenshot above.)

I’m confused….I was targeted once, a long time ago. Every time there is a targeted post, I click on the link and it says (in red): Your points will be applied at checkout but we were not able to activate the promo code. If you have already activated this code, your discount will be applied at checkout.
