The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN

Signup bonus:
For a limited time only you can earn 50,000 bonus Membership Rewards points for spending $5,000 in 3 months. The normal bonus is 25K. The end date for this promotion is not yet known.

You can get this signup bonus if you haven’t had a business gold charge card in the past.

Annual fee:
The $175 annual fee is waived for the first year.

Spending categories:
Choose to earn 3 points per dollar in one of the following categories and 2 points per dollar in the other categories:
-Airfare purchased directly from airlines (Tickets bought from sites like Orbitz and Priceline are processed directly by the airline and also qualify).
-U.S. purchases for advertising in select media
-U.S. purchases at gas stations
-U.S. purchases for shipping
-U.S. computer hardware, software, and cloud computing purchases made directly from select providers
You can earn 2 or 3 points per dollar on up to $100,000 of spending in each category per year.
Other purchases earn 1 point per dollar.

AMEX business cards offer a 5% automatic statement credit in addition to points earned for purchases from Fedex, HP, Hertz, and 1-800-Flowers.

AMEX cards also offer 2 points per dollar on Uber.

Business charge card:

As this is a business card it won’t show up on your personal credit report. That means it won’t against you for Chase’s 5/24 guideline. It also means that spending on the card won’t hurt your credit score like it would on a consumer card.

As it’s a charge card without a defined credit line it’s not subject the limit of 5 American Express credit cards per person.

You don’t need to be a traditional “business owner” as you might think of one to get a business card.

For example if Joe Smith sells items on Ebay or on Amazon, or has any other side business/hobby and wants a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures he can just open a business credit card for “Joe Smith Sole Proprietorship” as the business name. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that.
Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field as well as in the social security number field.

American Express Benefits:
-American Express offers excellent online dispute resolution.
-With return protection you can return items up to $300 to AMEX for 90 days if the merchant won’t accept the return due to an item being final sale or the return policy being shorter than 90 days. Return protection will also refund any restocking fees that a merchant charges. Typically you won’t have to send the item back, but if you do AMEX will give you a prepaid return label for it.
-With purchase protection your items are covered if they break or are stolen within 90 days.
-With extended warranty you will have double the manufacturers warranty, up to one additional year, for free. Plus the AMEX warranty year is incredible as they will refund your purchase price if you have problems with your item!

additional user

is there a fee for an additional user/employee card?

Anonymous

How does this compare to the Premier reward gold, I see the offer for up to 65k MR but that requires keeping it for an additional year with additional spend? Do they both come with an annual fee credit?

Dan

@additional user:
You can add additional Green cardholders with no fee.

@Anonymous:
That’s the consumer version of this card, you can get both.

Then as far as I remember personal charge cards will also not count in the 5/24 rule am I wrong?

Dan

@david:
Personal charge cards will count towards 5/24.

Dan, we’re looking to open an account toward mileage with most purchases in Israel, where we live. We are likely to put on it a few thousand a month. Can you offer a recommendation?

Sam

@Dan
Can I get hard pools removed since this card is not in my credit report?

Moishe

Do u get the 59k miles with Starwood sign up too ?

Leslie Ruder

Bad news: I just tried to sign up and it doesn’t permit a “Sole Proprietorship” as a choice for company structure, and it does not accept the Tax ID number to be the same as my social security.

How long should I wait between being approved for a chase sapphire reserve personal card, and applying for a chase or amex biz card?
