Amazon Prime Household Account Changes

Since its inception, Amazon Prime has allowed you to invite 4 other people to share the main Prime benefit, 2 day shipping on all orders, without any additional cost.

In that system each of the 5 members maintained unique accounts that made Prime splitting between strangers very easy.

Effective immediately you can now share Prime between 2 adults and 4 kids only.  And just to make sure of that, all of your credit card information will be shared between all accounts.  Obviously not something you’ll want to do with a complete stranger!

If you already have household accounts under the old system, they are grandfathered for now. But you won’t be able to add new ones, so think twice before removing them.  Household accounts under the old system will not have access to each others credit card information.

If you opt into the new system and invite another adult to your account you will now be able to share all Prime benefits, including Prime Instant Video, Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, and Prime Early Access. Amazon Mom members will also be able to share 20% off diapers and 15% off baby registry completion. Apps & Games, Books, and Audiobooks can be shared if you choose to share them.  But once you opt into the new system, both accounts will be able to make orders with any credit cards that are saved in either account.

Do preloaded gift cards get shared as well?

Devorah

Will the grandfathered accounts be able to renew each year under the old system?

Shloim

Dan, thanks for keeping us up to date!!!

Dan

@Daniel:
No.

@Devorah:
For now, yes.
But that can change if they want.

wow thats terrible. If you already had a prime account can you still invite people to share it with under the old system? or is it that once you invite someone new into your old account they are already on the new system? thanks for the update!

Cool

So Amazon mom can now be shared between 5 accounts?

Benji

Can they see my purchase history?

ydbe

Excuse me Dan, but I get the HT, look carefully a few posts before AJK…
Either way it’s bad news….

Sam

When does this take in effect?

ydbe

@sam
It started already.

@Sam: Read the post…

@Dan

You can only share the prime shipping benefits with the 2 adults in your account, not with the 4 children.

Also, if you prebought prime gift memberships @ $79, you can no longer use them and keep your 4 prime grandfathered family members.

A

Thanks Dan for for keeping us up to date

Will they be able to see my order history?

Dan

@A:
No.

Eric

@mike that sucks about the renewal… I’m sitting on five of them. Anyone have confirmation of this?

Benji

1. If I add an adult, under the new terms, will the already existing person that I added a year ago still be grandfathered in and governed by the old rules?
2. Under the new rules, the adult member added see’s all of the prime instant video history and the like?
3. What is a child addition?

ydbe

@benji
1. Don’t think you can add with out removing the old member.
2. Don’t think so.
3. I didn’t read the full terms yet.

Ushi
