Update, 6/5: Commenter Master Card writes that they were able to purchase $3,000 of cards in one transaction and automatically received $150 in instant credits, which made the cards cost below face value.
And that’s besides for earning cash back with Chase Offers for Office Depot and 5 points per dollar with Chase Ink Cash!
Update, 6/4: Alive again through 6/10!Â
Update: DEAD!
You can get $15 off $300 of Mastercard gift cards from Office Max or Office Depot stores from today through 6/10.
Use your Chase Ink Cash Card or Ink Plus card and get 5 points per dollar spent. Office supply stores never charge a fee for retailer gift cards such as Amazon and hundreds more, but these Visa gift cards can be used anywhere!
Check your Chase Offers to save another 10% off, up to $11 back, at Office Max or Office Depot.
The IRS lost a case trying to tax a couple that bought millions of dollars in Visa gift cards, which they subsequently cashed out in order to earn 5% cash back. The court ruled that rebates for gift card purchases are not taxable.
Some stores may limit you to 1 transaction, but some stores won’t have any limits at all, which would allow you to scale the savings quite nicely.
Note that these now have either a $6.95 or $7.95 fee, which will be printed on the card.
If you buy 2 $200 Mastercard gift cards in store with a $6.95 fee, you’ll pay $398.90 including fees and you’ll earn 1,995 points (worth $30-$40) by charging it to an Ink Plus or Ink Cash card.
If you buy a $100 and a $200 Visa gift cards in store you’ll pay $297.90 including fees and you’ll earn 1,490 points by charging it to an Ink Plus or Ink Cash card.
You may be able to use the gift cards to buy money orders at various stores and gas stations. Just use the last 4 digits of the card as the PIN number to cash them out. Beware that most stores no longer accept these for money orders.
Or you can donate the gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full face value.
Or you can give away a gift card as a wedding or Bar Mitzvah gift.
Or you can always use it for everyday spending anywhere while earning 5% cash back or even better, 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar everywhere!

NOT easy to cash these out anymore
Yes i tried alot of ways to cash out these gift cards and all the tricks dont work
Has anyone had luck recently, care to share some tips?
Donations still work
Money orders in Walmart?
A guy I know buys MOs at Kroger stores no issue, but I’ve never done it myself. I just buy enough to cover the usual expenses I know will take debit: phone bill, utilities, insurances, etc…
What is a money order exactly?
Do you have google?
I use them for
Donations, tuition, utility bills, clothing, groceries , insurance, shopping etc
You can buy now if you need to hit a spend signup bonus and then spend it over time.
Otherwise the only actual advantage (since they’re practically impossible to cash out) is that you get 5 points instead of 1 or 2 that you would’ve gotten if you used the same money for regular purchases.
You could also buy things for buying groups (buyformeretail is my favorite) if you need immediate cash in the bank.
In bergen County the acme grocery store allows you to purchase money orders, in other locations they don’t allow
what is the exact address in Bergen county? please
Don’t know of Bergen County I had success in Acme 300 Ryders Ln, Milltown, NJ
Tanks
Do you only get 5 points on Chase ink Cash Card? I don’t have that card; I have Sapphire Preferred
correct only chase Ink, not Sapphire
would they let me pay without the physical card? (meaning I want to key in the card number)
Thats not shady
Add card number to digital wallet like apple pay or Google pay app
Anywhere to buy a gift card online with email delivery?
Check your chase offers too. Both my Inks have 10% back up to $11.
Can you pay your taxes via debit with these cards?
Yes but there are limits.

Fee for 200$ Master GC at OfficeDepot has been increased to $7.95
is this in store only ?
Because someone needs to be pedantic.
PIN = Personal Identification Number. PIN Number = Personal Identification Number Number.
For all Lakewooddder’s staples in brick nj near Costco has a nice supply of the No-fee 200 visa giftcards. On sale thru 12.17
Can I purchase this using a gift card which I previously purchased in staples?
Why would you want to do that?
To have points coming in like revolving door. Buy GC and pay with GC…
Why would you earn points buying a GC with a GC?
I was having a slow moment. My apologies for wasting your time 🙂
Am I crazy or there’s no link above to the listed GC sale?
“from Office Max or Office Depot stores”
No office max on NYC, or North NJ. Non,
My local Usps tried processing gc as form of payment for money order, and the system wouldn’t allow.
Office max system only took 15 off 1 $300.
Any new york city places to do the money order trick?
I don’t see any chase offers in my chase business account on the app?!
Any help pls
Beware: These will not liquidate with Money Orders at WM. Kroger, or Safeway. They will also not load onto Serve, or Bluebird. You CANNOT purchase gas at a gas pump. They are heavily discounted because the company (Blackhawk) limits access to your funds, and they get to keep the funds when many of its customers get frustrated in trying to spend the money, and toss the cards in the trash. In about a year from now, you will probably hear about lawsuits.
I’ve used to purchase gas
It was probably meant at the pump, it works well to prepay inside. However, why do it (except spending requirements) when 5x on gas is common year round on Chase offers?
I have probably commented before, don’t remember. Nowadays, one needs to be very very lucky to liquidate these gift cards via money order purchases. Need the proper place and a newbie for this to work, never tell you are using gift cards to but money orders. This game started more than 10 years ago, the success rate is very low now.
For those who make estimated tax payments you can pay with these debit cards and only pay 2.20-2.50 per transaction. It should be noted you can only make 2 transaction per quarter with each website that you can use to pay with a debit card.
Did you try this? I have read that some gift cards that should have debit capability are run as credit with the higher fee.
Please update posts. Pin no longer works for debit at post office. Comes up as credit.
Do these need to be bought in store? Is there a store near lkwd nj?
No, closest one is almost an hour away in PA – 130 COMMERCE BLVD. UNIT #3
FAIRLESS HILLS, PA 19030
(215) 949-8740
you should be able to cash out the gift cards with using pay pal
Uhhh..
it’s not so simple, try it before you recommend.
Is this location specific? My store seems to not know what I’m talking about.
You tried checking out with 2 of these?
I called the store. They told me they don’t know about the discount.
Normal. Should be automatic at checkout.
Does anyone know if this is still active?
Will this also be $30 off $600?
Try and let us know 🙂
So…. Here’s the deal: purchased an hour ago 10x$200 and 10x$100 all in a single (1) transaction. 20 MC gift cards total. OfficeMax m/Office Depot. Each card had the (older) $6.95 Activation Fee. $139.00 total fees. Summary: $3,000 face value + $139.00 Activation Fees – $150.00 promotional discount = $2,989 charged with 5% Chase Cash Card cash back. If you charge $300 with $100 + $200 gift cards, each with $6.95 Activation Fee, the net purchase is $298.90, not $297.90 .

Do these cards expire?
Yes, current stock expires 2030 and 2031. The cards don’t earn interest. So big and use.
Is there more than one data point that you can buy more than $300? Hard to rely on just one person..
I have experienced it before as well. Just varies by the promo week for some reason.
Try it and let us know.
Yes. Just bought six x $200 in one transaction, $60 off.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Same. Bought 6 x $200 cards for a total of $1,181.70
I’ve taken advantage of these offers in the past. I had an issue with Mastercards getting hacked a few years ago, but no problems for awhile now, until this transaction. This time, I bought 6X $200 cards and was credited the expected $60 at purchase. However, the receipt said, “Card will be activated within 24 hours.” I had not seen that message before. Two days later, only the first card on the receipt has been activated. Calls to the number of the back of the card (877.322.4710), to the store where I bought it, and to OfficeDepot corporate have not fixed the problem so far. I regret making this purchase in view of the time sink this problem is causing.
Local store told me limit is 10 cards
