No, that’s the beauty of this, you don’t need home service for it to work, just internet access.

I don’t have internet service from a provider I just use my internet thru an optimum hot spot… will this be able to work with just wifi? or does it need high speed internet service to work?

I got this back when it was a deal on Newegg (alerted through DD). It has been GREAT!!! (I have been a Google Voice user for many years). Now the landline is for the kids, and the GV goes to a different set of portable phones just for me.
Will I be able to keep my own landline phone number? Will i need to port it to t-mobile or something like that?

You need to port it to a wireless carrier (any inexpensive prepaid carrier will work) first and then to Google Voice.

@Chana: It works over the internet from anywhere with a Google Voice number. You only need to port if you have an existing phone number you want to keep.

I currently hv uverse internet and uverse basic phone with att with 200mims. Can I use this with what I have so I can have unlimited mins within the US or call overseas cheaply? Do I even need the basic phone from att? Appreciate your educating an old dog.
